              @puffinfresh: Nice. Makes sense.

            • -5

@puffinfresh: The idea of shared classroom VR headsets is gross. All the dirt and grime collects over time… organic matter, difficult to clean out from the gaps and folds of a headset. Hair, grease and oil, skin flakes. Yuck! I wouldn't share a face mask or headphones either.

Even touch screens are disgusting now. The way forward is contactless gestures which would be interesting to explore with students, to replace public touchscreen kiosks. Please teach more than "how to sign up and be a customer of Meta".

              • @cerealJay: These come with an additional silicon goggle seal that can be easily cleaned between uses.

        • Either way its the same company harvesting data.

        • Argh! Purchases are limited to 1 per person on Amazon and direct from Meta. It used to be 2 on Meta, and I'm not sure if Amazon had a limit. This makes thing tricky.

      • Quest 2 is pretty amazing, and the updated version is rumoured to be a LOT more expensive.

        • +1

I believe it's more for professional / enterprise use cases, as opposed to gaming. I think where they're at currently is more or less at the peak of what's achievable in a wearable, and this is the best device, given it's dual use as a standalone and PCVR headset.

    • -1

Not actually going up it's a scare tactic as people are getting away from Meta. alternatives like Pico Neo coming out

      • +11

I doubt they are short-sighted enough to lie about a price increase just to drum up short term sales.

        • +1

They will increase the price, but as someone says below it is to make the exxy price of the Pro coming out more palatable. Like who tf increases the price of an old model when a new one is coming out?!

And since we have our good friend, Inflation here with all of us, this $100 increase will tempt us to "Buy Now!" instead of later once the price actually drops…

Don't get caught out with your pants down by the Zuck!

      • +2

The Pico Neo isn't being sold in Australia, you'll have to import one yourself which means no warranty, and probably at a considerable markup.

      Forget Oculame.

I'm putting my money into PSVR2.

Half life Alyx launch title. Watch.

      • +1

Yup waiting on PSVR2 as well

      • +1

Not really interested in buying a PS5, so unless the PSVR2 gets PCVR support I'm perfectly happy with just continuing to use my Quest 2 for PCVR.

        • -1

Good point. I'm not interested in buying a PC, so unless the Oculus gets PS5 support I'm perfectly happy with just continuing to wait for PSVR2 for PS5.

      • While it's wishful thinking that Alyx will be ported to PSVR2, despite how sensible it is, Valve is likely too busy ATM to port an already released game to third party hardware. They are way to focused on their upcoming headset and games, along with porting titles to S2. I'm not dismissive of the idea, and I myself have over 300 hours in the game and would love a broader audience to appreciate it, however it's most likely not going to be a launch title. Maybe after you start seeing some major announcements from Valve you might start seeing more news about Alyx on PSVR2 :)

        Also yeah, F Meta

      • +1

Ha! We don't even know if PSVR2 will have PCVR support.

I don't believe there has been a Valve game released on the PS platform since the Orange Box.

      • +13

I did try to explain it in the description, but just in case you missed it, this is the normal price until it increases on August 1st, where it will increase by $100USD

JV in August: I could get this for $479 just last week. Not a deal

    • -1

Awesome work Facebook! you just increased sales for the Sony PSVR2

      • +3

you just increased sales for the Sony PSVR2

        Where can I buy one?

      • +1

its not even avaliable, and the quest 2 is a PC VR headset as well unless you don't have PC and just a ps5 then the pc headset will always be better.

        • +1

Sony dipping their toes into the PC market, any chance they make it cross compatible? Or has that already been ruled out as they sell it as a loss leader?

          • @TimR31: besides there controllers they won't want you use there hardware designed for a playstation to work on PC. They want controll over the experience and with a PC setup they don't have that control.

        • I tried it the other day on my pc. The controls seem to alt-tab out of the application (ie. Game)? Anyone else have this issue?

Like.. The game continues to look fine (it's still fullscreen, not minimized etc) but suddenly goes unresponsive to your keyboard as though it's sending keystrokes to the wrong app. Happens often.. Couldn't even finish a race

How do people install it on pc? Maybe i did something wrong?

Nvidia; steam; oculus was the order i installed. I can't remember but i think i chose native oculus driver or something in steam?

      • +1

        Not quite the same market.

Meta Quest 2 is standalone, cable-free, more accessible.

PSVR2 will require the ps5, and has a cable.

I own a Quest 2 and will be getting a PSVR2, but it ain't comparable

    • Maybe now that Quest 2 is increasing in price I can sell my Quest 1.. Played around with it for like a month in 2019 and haven't touched it since

    • +2

$429 seems to be the lowest in the last 6 months, would have liked to have grabbed it at that price :(

In any case, this product is going on 2 years old. I would wait for the new one either way - either for new specs or price drops.

      • +1

Quest 3 is probably two years away and will be expensive as (profanity)

    • +5

Cool, makes the choice to stick with PSVR 2 easier. Thanks Meta, you pox on humanity.

      • +1

you do know you can plug a quest into a PC right and play PC VR games? Also I have the PSVR 1 on my ps5 works with all the ps vr games but would love a resolution upgrade thats for sure.

    • +2

      Good price , got one

    • +2

New Quest Pro rumoured to be released September 2022, probably jacking up Quest 2 price to make the new Quest Pro release price more palatable.

I would just hold out for the new one.

    • +1

when is there going to be a quest 3? had quest 2 since day one of release.

    • Who's going to buy a bunch and flip them?

      • +1

        Agree with JV

Well that's your problem right there!

        • -1

Can you please explain why this is a deal?

          • @onetwothreefour: In a few days it'll be more than $100 more expensive. It makes sense to buy it now, given the declared price rise. It's a deal based on the future price.

      • -1

To all who are negging me, this is already posted as a long running deal.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/684126

Please explain why it should be posted again?

    • +1

You get beat saber for free too

And for a limited time, every new headset purchase will include an offer to download the popular VR rhythm game Beat Saber at no additional cost.*
*People who purchase a new Meta Quest 2 from August 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022 and activate the device before January 31, 2023 using an account that does not already have Beat Saber enabled will be able to download Beat Saber at no additional cost for 14 days following activation.

      • +1

        That's after the price increase

      • to be fair, beat saber is awesome..and i have never seen the quest 2 version go on sale

        • +1

wait for a 30% off oculus code for the store when you don't make any store purchases for a while.

          • @JohnSy: I didn’t purchase for about a year and got no codes the whole time haha musta known I had a bunch of stuff in wishlist

          • @JohnSy: thanks for the tip. i will not buy and wait

        • I saw it once. I was brand new to quest so didn't know it was a big deal and didn't buy. It's possible or was a paltry 10% or so.

      • I liked Beat Saber, but wasn't willing to drop the $$ on it. Found some alternatives, one is Moon Rider, which is playable from browser, it's free and a lot of fun. It's not quite as refined in my opinion, but I'm happy with it for the price.

    • Are these very expensive use for a few days/ weeks and then put aside , as mentioned by earlier comment , gimmick fads ?

      • +6

For some people, yes. For my family - I bought myself one for Christmas and it's been used almost daily ever since.
Kids play Vacation Simulator, Cosmonious High, Gorilla Tag etc.
Wife plays puzzle games and Walkabout Mini Golf.
I play Ragnarock, table tennis, boxing and various games via PCVR. We've considered buying a second one at times, almost had to implement a booking system for us lol

        • -1

I'm looking forward to exploring all of the things you can get via sideloading, and games in VRChat etc, as well as defacing people's art with huge penises in Kingspray Graffiti

          • @Ham Dragon: gee please, manners… we have member who still underage here at ozb

            • @CyberMurning: You're just salty you sent me an unsolicited PM begging me to use your Oculus referral code and I told you to piss off.

Thanks for reminding me why that was the right decision!

            • +1

@CyberMurning: How many of them do you think have never heard of a penis? Given the demographics of OzBargainers, chances are they have one anyway.

        • Anyone with glasses use it? Wondering how that works out

          • @twig: It comes with a spacer to let your gogs fit in behind the headset, but you can also get prescription lenses for the unit itself

      • +1

I'm also interested to know this. If you have one, care to share how much use would you say you get out of it? Daily? Weekly? When you have friends over?

        • +1

I use it almost daily for table tennis. Most other games seems like a fad though. Multiplayer games are fun like population 1

        • using SteamVR to replace the desktop in the headset almost makes the monitor irrelevant.

      • A bit. But thats more due to lack of time. It actually made me smile in numerous games, which other systems don't do (I'm an aging jaded gamer)

If you don't have a spot to do it in (ie. kids toys everywhere) that'll get the best of you. Tho I do beat saber sitting on my ass on the couch

      • We definitely use much less than in the beginning, but it's not like we are playing other games instead, just don't seem to find the time or when we do we're too knackered to jump around in VR and watching a show from the couch wins. (Some VR games can be quite the workout)

It also helps if you have a large clear space available to play. Not all games need that much space but when you do, not having to clear the area first of furniture and crap on the ground can make all the difference to actually getting started or not.

    • +3

      increasing by $100 USD

      wtf were they thinking

    • If anyone has decent alternative for oculus quest 2 that is also 100% wireless VR headset, I would LOVE to hear

No, not vive. Their wireless kit is obnoxiously expensive as hell.

      • decent as in not related to meta/fb ..or…

because the quest 2 if you look past the meta/fb attachements is actually a beast for the asking price

    • Hey Mr Mod . Gona delete that also ? Bit biased mate .

    • +1

If you are worried about the Zuck having your data AND you don't care about online/multiplayer games, you can create a developer account and sideload games - both homebrew and acquired games.

      • Better yet: don't use FB?

    • +1

Genuine question: Anyone end up using their VR headset for more than a few months?
I bought the original Oculus Quest ages ago when it first came out. Used it for a few months (and the kids did too), but haven't really touched it since as it gets kinda boring.

      • +1

Been sitting in the cupboard for a while now. Got it in Nov 2019 and used it maybe 3 times this year. It's just a lot of effort to boot it up, find the space, get into a game.

It gets brought out when I have guests around though - people love their first proper VR experience.

      • Like with everything - people have different hobbies.

I've had my CV1 for ~6 years now - and still use it regularly. Mostly just beatsaber nowadays though. Most of the time I only play other games when friends are over.

      • Anyone end up using their VR headset for more than a few months?

I go through stages every time a new game comes out,

eg I played NOTHING but Battle Talent (free on app lab) for about 5 weeks.

then I played NOTHING but les mills body combat for about 2 weeks.

then previous to that I was obsessed with beat sabre, and b+s nomad.

        • the opposite, i play 6-10 games in a week just keep rotating

          • @CyberMurning: I modded beat saber. And have way too many songs. Have quite alot of fun games on it I love this VR

      • +1

the 1st one is crap, get this quest 2 — now..
        and thank me later

      • +3

Anyone end up using their VR headset for more than a few months?

Use it for virtual office meetings when working from home.

Then can claim it as a tax deduction.

        • +1

          Are you feeling alright JV?

          • +1
            • +2

@jv: I was going to say, you made a genuinely useful comment, I had to check everything was alright!

      • I sold my Rift after 6 months of use when they announced the FB account requirement. I do get temped to buy another VR headset now and again but would rather wait for better games and hardware.

      • I was so tempted to buy one but after this comment. I'm now asking my self: are you smart?

    • Has anyone experienced dizziness when using this? I get dizzy when playing first person and I don't know if getting this is good or not.

      • +1

I get a bit of vertigo in some games when there's a lot of movement, ie Blaston, but I can normally play through it.
I can play other games like Beat Saber, Mini Golf, poker, Tetris for hours on end.

        • I see thanks :)

          • @RobBoss: Sorry, correction.
Blaston isn't the game. It's a game similar to Rocket League but you are flying and have to throw a disc through the goal. Can't remember the name.
