I would skip the 3080 and go for the ti for $179 more or $300 more with 16gb ram

    • +3

Where are you finding RTX cards with 16gb ram

      • +4

As in with 16gb ram ddr4 for your mobo

      • Some 3080/3080 Ti laptops have 16GB VRAM.

        • Sorry should have added desktop RTX card

          • @somm: Yeah, don't think there are any. You'll have to get an RTX 3090 with 24GB if you really need a large amount of VRAM

    • +1

I think for that sorta money, unless you want or need RTX, better off with the Radeon 6900XT

      • Agreed. 6900xt either gets same or better performance in a lot of games. If I had a chance to go back in time I would've gotten the 6900xt instead of the 3080

    • The Ti is 400 bucks extra. Where did you see it for 179 more?
Unless you're talking about a different brand/model, in which case it's a bit of a different comparison.

  • +1

Wow, will we see 3060Ti next price drop below $1k? So close now …

    • +3

I got mine from PLE last Feb for $759

      • +1

Basically the last time they were that price!

        • +1

I still can't believe how bad GPU prices are. 1k+ for a xx60 series card is just crazy. I think I bought a 1080 mini about a year after launch for $650..

  • Thanks! bought one

    • Cheers :)

  • +1

Waiting for a deal on a EVGA 3080ti

    • +2

      Lets try next weekend!

      • That sounds tempting! Too tempting for my wallet

      • Don’t you dare mate… credit card replenished.

      • +1

So this is the weekend… Are you dishing out any 3080 TI deals? 😃

  • +3

you guys are close, but not close enough. maybe 1k id it would get me thinking if i really want to spend that much just for games

    • -1

No one is at $1000. Worth losing money at that price? Not to the retailer's.

      • +2

then you've decided for me good sir

      • +2

        Yet…

        • -1

Yeah the wholesale price has to come down first.

    • +1

That's another 25%, this is the cheapest we have seen since launch that I can remember.

      • +7

Still doesn't mean it's worth paying that just to play a couple games lol. that price might be ok for mining, but i can think of other things to invest in with a much higher return than that

        • +1

High yield investment like a Tesla EV?

  • Great price, definitely would have bought if I didn't buy 3060 ti

  • +6

4 million Intel ARC GPUs coming in 2022, release at Q2 2022. probably up to 3070 level. I would hold on for now, GPU prices are definitely gonna come down a bit more.

    • +2

some rumours. suggest more like a 5700XT level… and driver issues wiht direct X 11 games… we will have to wait and see..

    • +4

I wouldn't count your chickens before they're hatched; Intel's new cards are already late and might not be as impressive as people are hoping they are. See also: their move to 7nm, which is about five years overdue.

Plus, there's a bunch of Plex/Emby/Jellyfin users who aren't currently in the market for a new card, but will be if the reports of the new Intel cards being able to share transcoding duties with Intel IGPUs are true. That'll put upward price pressure on Intel cards, and adding new customers to the pool of buyers will further reduce card availability. Plus I think Intel are buying TSMC fab space for their cards, meaning less manufacturing space for AMD/Nvidia.

I think card prices are getting gradually better, but don't expect Intel to move the needle that much.

    • +1

There’s always something cheaper around the corner.
If you need a GPU now, this is a great price especially for this particular EVGA FTW3 Ultra model.

    • I remember the last time Intel tried making GPU's. I wouldn't touch an Arc card for at least a year.

    • This. Been wanting to get a 3070 ti but Intel ARC is the reason I am holding off. I want to see what they can offer.

  • +2

is the 3080 really $650 better than the 3070Ti in the title? (probably a very stupid question but.. meh)

    • To me no, but only the buyer can confirm value.

    • From value perspective I don’t think so. This 3080 costs 50% more than 3070 ti but doesn’t perform 50% better, does it?

      • was thinking the same way yeah

    • -6

      Wouldn't know, I got my 3080 for $1259

    • +2

75 mh/s vs 60 mh/s in mining, and 15% more FPS in gaming, so nah, not $650 better. Should be $300-400 more.

      • +1

        3080ti ftw3 can do 91mh++. I owned one.

        • +1

          he's talking about 3080 not 3080 ti.

my dell 3080 ti can do 100mh++ with 3090 firmware.

      • +1

So is 3070 ti the sweet spot for mining performance then?

        • The sweetest spot at the moment at $1349 mark, anything under $1399.

The ultra FTW3 edition is legendary for mining.

    • If you're someone who must play AAA games in 4k at max settings then the 3080 may be worth it to you. If you're willing to tone down a couple of settings, use dlss, or game at lower resolutions then it probably isn't worth it from a value perspective.

    • I use this chart where it's performance is relative to a 3090
      https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/rppvlc/nvidia_gpus_…
Looks like 3070ti around 82% and the 3080 around 93% relative to 3090 performance

    • +1

Probably not but the 8GB memory might make it limiting, even 10 gb on the 3080 was a problem on some titles (far cry 6 on high res texture packs)

  • -2

I wonder if I can sell my unopened evga 3060 ti for the $1099 it cost me not including shipping.

Will this make a difference if I only have 1 1440p monitor to game on?

    • +2

who's gonna buy it? gumtree buyers probably offer you $600 for it. no one stupid enough to pay $1100 for 3060 ti now, maybe last year yes.

      • -1

Haha guess no upgrading to this 3070 ti then. Although I am sure I can sell it for more than the $600 you mentioned and PLE will beg to differ since they sell out within a few hours whenever they get their 3060 ti ftw in.

Intel cards, the ones they originally release will not make people not want a 3080 ti or 3070 ti since they do not even perform up to that level until the later releases.

  • +2

OP when is this being restocked at $1199?

    https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/08g-p5-3785-kl-evga-gefor…

    • +1

      Still price gauging I see….

  • This or the 3070 Ti Giga from computer Alliance. Finally biting the bullet and and getting either one and selling my Giga2070

    • Not sure if Gigabyte has fixed their power input, but the first version of RTX 3070-3090 had quite a number of cards with bent pin and you can't plug the power cable in. I had to returned the RTX 3070 Gaming OC back in 2020 because of that and went with MSI Gaming X version.

  • +8

    HODL!?

    • +2

Come next week prices will drop by another $100.

      • +3

Even if its RRP, at this point I feel its better to wait for 4xxx series unless you really dont have a decent card to wait it out.

        • +3

I just decided to cancel a 6900xt order and wait it out. I figure, additional capacity/less constraints with amd at TSMC, plus intel flooding market, might help drive prices lower or at least remain stable, but i may get 50% more fps.

I dont think intel is going to be cheap, so prices may not move initially, but sometime into early/mid 2023 i reckon will be good enuff!

Until then, i am still rockin my old 7970 HD!!!

Time to queue up those old games for a while.

          • +1

@Ostrich: True, might as well wait for the 4000 series, I'm still rocking GTX 660ti with 2GB RAM.

          • @Ostrich: Mate, if its a 7970 I guess its long due an upgrade. I had a 7950 3GB boost that served me decently until 3 years ago on a 1680x1050 monitor. When i upgraded to a 1440P monitor, it literally struggled even in older Tombraider games. I then got a used mined 1080 for a decent 400AUD and felt that upgrade was worth it. Dont get me wrong, that 7970 monster is still decent for 1080P, but its no match for games launched in last 2 years. Even my GTX 1080 struggles. Life is short, lets live it sweet. Waiting that long aint sweet. You need to upgrade every 3 GPU cycles minimum. Well thats my opinion.

    • -4

if you start mining on it you'll be offsetting the price from day 1. and you mine on it when not gaming or sleeping.

      • +1

the problem is many people will have their rig in the bedroom and the noise is so bad it'll affect your sleep, i could have made a few hundred $ mining over the past year but its just not worth the noise

probably not worth the effort unless you're mining with multiple gpu's tbh

if you want to invest in crypto just use the cash and dollar cost average in, mining revenues will not always give you a profit particularly with the high electricity cost in AUS

        • Most people made tens of thousands from mining and another several thousands from flipping 3080 FHR deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/637731

many people have their rig in their bedroom? what are you kids? teens still living with parents?

          • +3

@[Deactivated]: most people here want a gpu to game on, my original entry in to mining was to get a free gpu, at the time it was something hilarious like 1 month ROI, right now its more like 2-3 years. miners are still the minority

you would also need multiple gpu's to make any decent amount that's my point, i've already mined during the 2017 run for 2 whole years, the rig was also my work pc in the adjacent room with wire extenders, the whining noise was not pleasant.

it was fun and all but if i just spent the money directly on crypto i would have made the same if not more. ie timing is everything, people in early make the gains. investing well will trump any income you receive from mining, its not consistent income when the bull market ends and industrial miners with near free electricity make all the income

i put $500 in doge when it was 0.2c, that's my version of mining this time around lol

            • @abctoz: I would have sold doge at 90c if I bought it at 2c. no point keeping it. its all in hindsight.

              • @[Deactivated]: 0.2c ser, i sold some at 25c and didn't even sell at the top because too much tax, will hodl possible to hit $6.90 in next 10 years…

i even posted it here when it was under 1c: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9887940/redir

the point being mining is a form of DCA, miners are just lucky because the DCA in a highly performing asset, and while its hard it is also possible to beat DCA by analyzing markets

                • @abctoz: paying tax, especially lots of tax is the best thing that can happen to an investor.

                  • @[Deactivated]: true true, was hoping for a a good price to sell in the new accounting year but it kept going down lol

oh well free coins will hodl to the grave

      • +2

You won't be making that much mining while you're sleeping (assuming you sleep at night), and if you don't have a decent solar array you're not making much during the day either - unless someone else is paying the electricity bills.

  • I noticed some cards have the spiel "Low Stock Hurry!"
…Instead of writing that, would it be more advisable for you guys to order more stock?, or is that meant for your staff to hurry and order more in?

    • +4

We all know that is there to trigger FOMO in customers ;)

    • +1

Basically every decent card is constantly in low stock, only a dribble coming in to retailers from distributors which is snapped up almost immediately if the price isn't ludicrous. If they could order more they would (although that might be changing with a recent increase in pricing volatility).

BPC probably have an automatic "Low Stock Hurry!" tag when the number available in their system is below a certain threshold, and even the full shipment of these GPUs is probably below that threshold

  • Thanks! Got one. Now tike see what I can get for my RX 580 to make some money back

    • Last year i sold my RX 580 8GB for $500.

      • Now probably worth fraction of that with mining dead in June.

        • Doubt.

        • +2

If I had a penny every time someone says Ethereum is going to shift to proof of stake and cards would drop in price, I'd be Warren Buffet rich, today.

        • Easy to get at least $400 for it on Facebook Marketplace. Still in high demand. Tricky to get one under $400.

        • +1

You know better than this. The Ethereum Consensus Layer was promised 5Y or 6Y ago.

          • +1

@rektrading: lol, just trying to appease the HODLer, give em hope…

    • Thanks for your business!

  • +9

    HODL.

Time is on our side now. It won't be long until the next gen is out, finally forcing some competition to clear the shelves for those cards.
This ridiculous notion of selling cards that were released years ago for MORE than original RRP is going to hurt retailers one way or another.
Either take a hit now and get rid of that stock for cheaper pricing, or wait till the newer cards come out soon… and have to sell for even cheaper later on.

I'll keep waiting. Let's see who blinks first in the next 3-6 months.

    • +1

Time is definitely on the gamers side, now until the next GPU release, Crypto miner will flood the market with their card and retailer is also trying to get rid of current stock.

      • -4

Crypto miner already laughin their way to the banks. When they sell their cards later mid year are their free carry.

Only some dumb@ss will buy their ex-miners card.

        • Can you explain why only dumbasses will buy ex mining cards?

          • @Nereosis: because the brand new ones are cheaper. no difference for gaming between LHR and non-LHR.

and with ETH goes pos, altcoins mining somewhat better on LHR cards.

The smartasses are selling for profit, and the buyers are? got it?

    • I doubt retailers have as much stock that it will hurt them if few of us don't buy!

  • -1

Lol anyone who had a 3070 mining from day one already paid off and more

    • and I got downvoted saying that. these 'gamers' must had bury their head under the sand.

  • +2

I feel ripped off. I just caved in and bought one of these for $1650 a few days ago. Rassum frassum…

    • -2

start mining on it, and get some of the money back. let your card do some work whilst you sleep.

    • +3

I got a chuckle from your "Rassum frassum"… perfectly done.

(the younger ones wouldn't have a clue what you're referring to :))
