Another one of LGs stupid inventions. The only thing they got right was oled.

    • +15

      Not true. They invented three things that enhance my life every day;
      1. Wi-fi killing microwave
      2. Self-rusting washing machine
      3. Lack of corporate responsibility

      Lucky me!

      • Haha my LG microwave does the same!

      • You forgot a TV that loses its WiFi connection for no apparent reason… Only fix they have is to change country in setting and change back… (although fingers crossed It hasn't happened recently)… I have said washing machine but aside from the feet nuts seizing and now it goes on walk about no rust thankfully.. Got the microwave and yes when on it kills wifi… It also killed itself after 2months of ownership and after its megatron or whatever was replaced irs been on but heating is sometimes hit n miss…

They are an innovative bunch that's for sure 🙃

      • +1

I guess someone's life isn't that good. If your wifi really dies by microwave and you know that much, you should consider upgrading your router or changing your router to use 5ghz instead of 2.4, instead of complaining it here, as if lg microwave is the only ones using that frequency.

        • It's wide spread that the shielding on the LG microwaves is subpar and drops internet, other microwaves don't usually cause the issue.

That aside, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a new microwave that doesn't K.O. the internet rather than replace all your older 2.4ghz devices/buy a new router?

The display on my LG microwave has failed outside of warranty so I'm better off just replacing the microwave anyway…

          • @Rorzaborg: Just a rumor, not a solid fact. That is why I suggest getting a solid router because anything can knock off the wifi if your router is that vulnerable. Even my 10 yr old router has options to vary frequency around 2.4 to avoid interference from neighbors, etc., and standing strong just 2m away from my lg microwave, so once again, I suggest getting a decent router, before you get any new microwave.

            • @Trhrd: What's just a rumour? I'm literally experiencing it. It seems the person before me is too, as well as other Ozbargainers whenever the LG microwave deals pop up.

I'm using a Asus RT-AC88U running Merlin, so not a cheap router in its time. It runs a 5ghz network however older devices, such as my TV are not compatible. Ultimately you're trolling if you think microwaves taking down networks is acceptable behavior.

Once again, the microwave's display is faulty anyway, so I'd rather get rid of it. Unfortunately I've never had luck with LG products. A phone from 2007 being the only thing that hasn't died on me just outside of warranty period. But power to you if they work for you.

              • @Rorzaborg: When did I say it was ok? "if you think microwaves taking down networks is acceptable behavior…." All I said was you better fix the router setting or get a decent one, if anything knocks off your wifi because even if you change your microwave for THAT reason, you cannot control your neighbors, right?

                • @Trhrd: The thing is that nothing else had interupted my wifi, including the 2 microwaves I previously had before the current LG. And as stated there's nothing wrong with the router and settings, I've tried changing channels on the 2.4ghz band and using a different router and short of moving the router to the opposite side of the house, there's not much I can do when it comes to this microwave. It sounds like you may have got lucky with your LG microwave purchase, or I and others were unlucky. Just a matter of perspective really.

I've never had a problem with my neighbours interfering with my wifi, so unless they bring their LG NeoNuclear Fission Reactor microwave with 1950's Soviet era advanced shielding technology™ into my house and start using it, I don't really need not worry!

                  • @Rorzaborg: First of all, I believe there may be different experiences between people/products/build, so I sincerely
feel bad about anyone with any kind of bad experience. After all, I am just one consumer who can encounter the same problem myself.
I 'personally' had no more microwave-interfering-wifi-experience since 2010-ish. That is why I was logically suspecting the recent routers have gotten more robust against the interference by microwave ovens. Any electronic devices sold here must be certified and I believe they need to pass such tests, which set the minimum requirements not to jeopardize public network. I know the microwave ovens are far too strong so anything can be affected in a very short range but I do not believe any certified products are almighty-network-destroyer, when used in a certain distance apart (in my house, 2m away from my router was just fine, if it wasn't I would have moved it further away.)
In your case, you will replace your microwave, anyway, but I was saying anyone who thinks their microwave is interfering the network, they should consider getting a better router (change settings manually if needed or move it further away from the source, to save even more), before replacing their microwave, in general.

                    • +1

@Trhrd: I 100% agree, everyone should always do their due diligence to ensure that the problem isn't related to their other devices first before pointing fingers at any 1 specific product.

And yes while in a perfect world all products should be made to the highest standard and certifications, QC can often be neglected, and faults can slip through, that's why it's important for any company to have an outlined product recall procedure. Unfortunately, for me and from my personal experience, LG's product QC seems to be lacking, or I'm unlucky… Either way I think I'll personally shy away from their products for a bit, which is unfortunate because I really like the look of their TV's…

      • I won't be buying LG ever again in my life again. They did something very dodgy about 20 years ago.

I went with my dad to buy a new TV, I was a teenager, but was good with technology at the time..

We went to the store (I think Dick Smith?) and they showed us all the TVs, and then showed us this LG TV which was a few hundred $$ more than other brands, but it came with a DVD recorder, and a stand.

Ofcourse, I begged my dad to get that LG TV, as I really wanted that DVD recorder. We ended up buying it. Turns out, the reason why they were giving away that DVD recorder for free with that TV was because it had issues, and instead of fixing the issues, they thought it would be a good idea to just bundle it up with the TV, raise the price and f*** customers. The issue was something to do with the fact that the recorder would fail a lot and make you waste a lot of dvd's before you could get a correct recorded DVD. I found a lot of discussions about it back then in forums, but can't find anything right now.

Anyways, that made me lose my complete trust in that brand.

I will never forget that. Samsung is following the same pattern by forcing me to see ads on a TV I bought 3 years ago, so it's crossed off my list of future products as well.

        • +2

I think Dick Smith were more at fault there than LG?

          • @Rorschach: How? How would they know the DVD recorder had issues? They were just selling the product.

            • @anonymous01: Ah, sorry had skimmed through. I thought the TV had issues and the recorder was bundled to make up for it.

  • Where can i get the test report to this mask?

For people who are thinking about buying one:

I have used one of these last year when I was flying to Europe and back (about 40h total flight time, but closer to 60 with waiting, public transport, etc) and while expensive, I can recommend it.

The mask is comfortable and surprisingly light. The silicon gasket seals very well but doesn't leave any marks on your skin. Breathing through it is easier than any other mask, since it pushes air through its filters when you breathe.

The air you breathe in is fresh and cool, rather than moist and in part recirculated. Which was great for me as I have asthma and this made it way more comfortable when you have to wear a mask for 14h straight.

Battery life is claimed to be 8h, but I mostly used it plugged in via USB, which most planes now have anyway.

The voice function is a bit gimmicky but it actually was helpful when I was checking in at a loud airport.

Yes, you might get weird looks, but the comfort was totally worth it for me.

Only downside is that it is bulky and it doesn't count as an n95 mask. That is somewhat important because places like Germany mandate the type of mask (n95 without valves). However, not once did anyone complain about the type of mask I was wearing.

And another thing is that you kinda have to adjust your breathing a bit. The mask will vary it's fan speed based on your breathing, i.e. fans only spin when you breathe in and there is a slight delay to it. But you get used to it quickly.

All in all I can recommend it. Especially at that price. When I had one shipped in November last year, I paid close to AUD500 for it due to insane markups of resellers.

I knew that a N95 mask that made for HKG Olympics team could last for up to 94hrs and its prive also affordable to most people

    • The only filtering on exhaled air is the 'inner cover' which looks similar material to a standard mask (and they say to change daily).

  • -1

    u wot m8?

  • +1

An N95 and goggles will do the trick.

Thought this was ridiculous, but the thought of flying to Europe and back with a standard mask persuaded me. Question is where to get replacement filters?

    • +2

I suggest trying the AMD T4 P2 mask, I find it extremely comfortable and have no trouble wearing it for long periods. Made in Australia.

      • Got given a couple like that (3M & Trident) when I recently had Covid and was taken to get an IV of a new drug. Was told the ones I got were small size so I didn't try them, but looking up the part numbers there are no sizes.

        3M Aura 9320A+
        Trident RTCFFP2

Who'd a thunk being fussy about a face mask would have been a thing a few years ago?

      • -1

wtf AMD making masks now? ill wait for nvidia

      • +1

+1 they are great masks and use technology that means it's still effective even after getting wet from breathing/sweating ect so you can use them for a few days without issue until they get a little grubby.
Only issue is they are kinda expensive but you can pick up 50 packs under $100 now so still not cheap but $2 for comfortable Australian made n95 masks is pretty reasonable imo. If any complaint it would be I wish they offered a slightly larger size option.

    • Found some on eBay the other day. Manual says filter only needs to be changed monthly, but that seems quite long to me.

      • Saw a Youtube that if used 6 hours a day. It seems reasonable to me, but it'll depend how dirty the environment you're in of course. The inner cover filter they say to change daily.

If you don't need to use a mask often I could see getting a lot longer out of the filters.

Where did you find the ebay ones & price?

  • +3
  • Replace filter after 1 month

  • It doesn’t day but for this price it must have undocumented features such as bluetooth, wifi and rechargeable Li battery

  • Possible sources of the filters (you can sign up from here but I didn't check to see if they ship here or what it cost)

I got omicron 3 weeks ago, took me 2 weeks to recover, my concern with travelling and fear of getting (a non omicron variant like delta or other more serious ones) the concern is not particularly breathing it in because ''my mask is low quality'' NO..

the fear comes from when the mask is taken off to consume food or wash face or take a shower. the chances are when the mask is removed in that area/space you are sitting or standing, only than you could be exposed to it.

in which case the mask can be made of vibranium.. once its taken off that's when the exposure happens, not to mention chefs/cooks who are infected and don't know/don't care and they make y your food. so to me travelling still seems like a risk even though i don't fear omicron as it was not as bad as i thought, it was like a light flu.

    • +2

So you were infected with a mild variant and now you're paranoid about becoming infected with a new variant that there is no evidence for?? Then you talk about a vibranium mask as the solution? Just breathe!

    • +1

Got my Omicron 10 days ago coming over to Melbourne from Tassie for a medical checkup! Plane was full and most likely place I got it. I qualified for a dose of Sotrovimab which likely helped make it seem the same - light flu. I too would not like one of the worse variants, particularly if out of the country. I'll be away for quite a few months in countries that don't have reciprocal health agreements with Australia so just travel insurance to rely on. Who really knows what that'll cover for Covid?

Got the Crypto Visa card with free airport lounge access which I can make use of. Can avoid airline food and just eat in the lounges (and have a shower too). Mel, half way and Heathrow. Might make the flight more bearable.

  • must have forgotten a decimal point

  • +1

There couldn't be a worse time to spend $200 on a mask!

    • +2

Yeah these would've been amazing if they were available at the start of 2020 but at this stage spending $200 on a mask that isn't even n95+ certified seems way over the top. Mask mandates are ending and it seems it's moving to personal responsibility and loving with covid in the community.
Might be a good option for some people though if they find breathing difficult with normal masks and need to wear them for extended periods while not being in high risk situations (you'd be using medical grade masks I assume)
Anyhoo you can always rely on the tech industry to produce a gadget for anything can't you, kinda funny really!

    Take my money!

  • would be ideal getting into uber cars. Some drivers dont wash for weeks.

  • Everybody joking, nobody posting negative votes, and that's why this rubbish is on the front page. Seriously a $219 face mask.

You must be new here or still bitter you missed out on the last Tesla deal.

  • Anyone want to share a bulk order of filters & inner covers from a place above? I registered on Yoyohongkong and the items are ok prices (A$17.50 each), but just over $50 for Fedex which is expensive for one persons order. I don't think it would add much to order more and shipping from me to you wouldn't be much.

  • Is $218 for Kogan Firsts

  • +2

Got this today. Yes it works, but there are a few catches.
    1. Filter cost and availability. The HEPA filters are 40x40x7mm so you’d think they’d be a few dollars. The flat inner cover filter material is small and simple so again, you’d think cheap. I’ve only been able to find them at very high prices. I’ll be on the hunt for alternative materials to fit. Maybe larger HEPA filters cut to size.

    1. The silicone face mould that comes with it is supposed to be the Large version (there’s also an optional Medium sized one). However even the Large is quite small and only just covers my mouth. My nose hits the inside of the device (I don’t have a particularly big nose). I’m guessing designed for (generally) smaller Asian faces and flatter noses.

    2. The speech thing works pretty well, but because of the small size of the face mould it feels like air can get in the side when you talk.

    3. I got it for a flight to Europe, but I’m just wondering how annoying it might be for people next to me. It’s possible it won’t be noticeable over the engines. (I’m going to look a right Charlie with this and my Bose noise cancelling headphones).

    4. The exhalation port could be a lot bigger. It’s only about 25% the area of the fan forced inlet ports. Being so small, it restricts flow and the inner cover will get grubby quicker.

    5. Poor marks for the seller not responding to requests to get filters (cheaper in Hong Kong where they are) and include them in the shipment.
