I bought this earlier in the year. Nice tablet but be aware that there is an issue streaming HD on all mainstream apps (Disney, Netflix, Prime etc).

Mine came with the global ROM that had Widevine L3 and I was successful in reverting this to the original Chinese ROM and reinstating the L1 cert. Disney+ works but Prime doesn't which is a bit annoying. Haven't confirmed if Netflix works though.

No issues on YouTube which can stream at 1440p right out of the box.

    • +1

Do you have instructions on downgrading as when I shared last time people told me it was impossible.

Was Prime preinstalled? If so download it from Google Play or manually and see if it works. That has to be done for Netflix.

    • In other words it is better to buy from Australian vendors.

    • Welcome to dealing with global roms and streamer whitelists. I hope people who bought this based on widevine alone have a plex account with a whole sea of media

  • +7

Yeap @polol helped me out and linked these instructions which worked:

    https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/install-stock-rom-xiaoxin…

Prime wasn't preinstalled (nothing was just a handful of apps that I never used like camera, default note pad, calculator and a theme app I think).

I installed Google play on both ROMs (Global and original Chinese Rom) via sideloading to get Prime, Youtube, Disney etc.

    • wait what? Google play doesnt come with the global rom?

      • +1

You have to download it cos Chinese devices don't Google Play by default

      • +1

It does there is no need to sideload, you just download it from the "App center" on the device

    • Hehe

  • How good is this for kids gaming and school work?

    Aged 5-9

    • +1

Imo, this is overkill. Probably p11 plus (not pro), at around $300, would be enough for light usages around the house.

    • +2

I wouldn't get kids an OLED tablet, they will probs find a way to burn it in.

  • +3

    no custom rom support unfortunately

    • +3

And no* manufacturer ROM support either 😅

*No meaning, nothing (1 update if you are lucky) compared to the big players. Samsung etc now offering 5 years of android updates/security updates.

    • +1

suprised xda forums haven't made one yet.

      • +2

Awash with troublesome broken ROMs and confused developers, honestly I wouldn't buy into a device without adequate aftermarket rom support that extends the life and functionaoity of the device far beyond manufacturer support.

Lenovo's confusing naming and model numbering system doesn't help; labelling models the same thing only seperated by (year) but with vastly different operating systems only makes things worse.

        • +1

          All good points,
I can't find a dedicated page for this model on XDA.

For this price I’d rather buy n iPad n not worry about compatibility and speed

    • +3

problem is you dont get much ipad for $540

11" and 128gb… i get ya, my other half will only use apple for this size

      • +1

64Gb ipad is $500, $256Gb is $729. Usable levels of storage gets so pricey on ipads.

        • +1

          where is a 11" Ipad for $500?

          • @Trip: Well size is another thing against ipad in this price range too

            • @hen dawg: ipad doesn't have an oled either I'm pretty sure.

  • +1

I wish at this price it included the Keyboard cover.

No GPS kind of kills it for me.

  • +4

Good deal but widevine hassles kill it for me.

    • +1

and no GPS (which I need)

  • I must ask, has there been softwares that need a 8XX series SoC? I know emulation and Genshin does, but anything else?

  • +1

Nabbed one as I can't quite justify the prices of the s7 - s8 range nor the iOS tax.

Upgrading from a Pixel C so, should be plenty of oomph.

  • +4

Bought this last time and slightly regret it.

    Advantages:
    - best you'll get at this price range
    - display is very nice and I like the higher refresh
    - speakers decent

    Negatives
    - can't seem to activate the on screen keyboard if not using the default if you have the keyboard connected despite using it in tablet reader mode
    - screen can stop responding forcing a relock and unlock
    - changing the language to English still leaves a heap of system text in Chinese… Including the bloatware and also update changelog….
    - software is pretty terrible when it comes to auto rotate and PC mode
    - so much bloatware
    - keyboard can't seem to set the default browser to anything besides their installed one
    - it will often default back to the stock launcher for a few seconds on unlock if using Nova etc
    - no GPS = no great weather widgets
    - widgets aren't great because they don't allow padding to the edge of the screen… Massive borders

    • +1

Lots of little issues that I don't think i would be able to put up with on $500 device.

      • Yeah my usage of it has decreased a lot after the honeymoon period.

Having to disconnect the physical keyboard just to force the on screen keyboard is so irritating and given the lack of software support and updates (as well as no English changelog) I don't have much hope lol

I can confirm that PRIME Is only SD quality and also I would lie to add that stopped reading the data in the external SD card which caused a boot loop. The sd card is readable by other devices, but this tablet cannot read it. The only option is to backup the contents, format it with the tablet and restore the contents. This is the second time it happens.
Other than that , it's a very capable tablet. For this price, probably the best you can get.
Software has some issues as described above, but hardware is really good.

  • Seems pretty good for the money, just skeptical on how well it would run hearthstone on it? Been playing it lately and wanted a tablet for on the go. Any recommendations on a good tablet for it?

    • Hearthstone is not demanding.

This has an sd870 which used to be the fastest chip on an Android tablet before the Tab S8 released.

You can play hearthstone fine on the cheaper P11 Plus model

  • Don't buy anything from this mob. I'm still waiting for a delivery that was supposedly shipped on Jan 29. Sat in their WH for over two weeks and they didn't do a thing to help when I wanted to cancel my order. Sent the same standard email. Still waiting now and I still get the same crap email whenever I contact them. Plenty of complaints about them,. Stay away.

    • Yeah i waited a month and they did nothing, cancelled and ordered elsewhere.

    • If you messaged around the 29th then Banggood would have been off for the Lunar New Year holiday. They all take 1 or 2 weeks off.

  • I bought one a few months ago. Have almost not touched it. It’s still basically exact same price I paid. I should be able to sell it quickly for say $500 right? Comes with a couple of cases. Had big plans but between my iPad and MacBook and laziness, it never got the play time I had planned too.

I doubt it, these chinglish tablets have limited appeal outside of ozbargain ppl who purely just look at the specs "on paper" and not the actual user experience… Might get $300 for it on Facebook marketplace.

      • Ooft. $300 I’d just keep it. I’d prob go somewhere in the $400 range. I am in Sydney so more buyers. I suppose.

    • +2

Gonna be a hard sell if people can't see local prices.

Specially hard convincing people that xiaoxin is actually the same as lenovo

      • That’s true. Has to be a tech person probably who would be interested. It is a beautiful tablet. I managed to flash the international rom so it’s about 90% normal android experience. Most people would be sweet with this tablet. Has play store etc.

  • really want this tablet but some of the issues concern me.

I only play games on it. Should I buy this or it will be a problem with games?

  • Looked very long and hard at the various Lenovo tablets, and in the end went with second hand Samsung galaxy tabs (7 and 7FE WiFi 6/128 - if u get a FE make sure u go with the WiFi and not 5G version). Bit of patience to wait for a good price and but well worth it I think re longevity/OS/OS support. Not to mention the geopolitics.

    • Yeah this is what I was comparing to.

Which one is better S7 or S7 FE??

I only use for gaming 99% of the times

      • 11" is imo better for games that use on screen joysticks vs 12.4" on the FE which is huge to hold for long periods, should be fine for games where you can lay the tablet down though.

Only thing good about the FE is the screen size, specs are all better on the S7.

        • Would you or any one know if the S7 series is getting 5 years free updates?

          • @mt2000: It's 3 years software shpport, so only 1 year left. But it's definitely getting Android 12

  • Anything similar but cheaper for a year 3 kid to use for school?

    • Get the basic p11 model, its around $300 or less from china.

Otherwise Samsung A tabs so you don't have to dick around with the roms.

  • Would the active pen 2 work with this tablet or is the precision pen 2 preferred?
