Perfect for my Nescafe blend 43

    • Oh…you didn't just…

Looks like it’s $315 delivered here so savings are nothing drastic.
    Highly recommend these scales though.

Also note that these are the original model which are slightly outdated (new one has USB C).

    • Thanks for the heads up. I don't know much about these particular scales but I have read that they don't go on sale often so I thought I'd share. I was considering the Timemore Black Mirror plus, in your opinion why are the Acaia scales $200 dearer?

      • +1

        Black Mirror is 200% larger

        • Yeah…Black Mirror is more of a pourover scale. Not really same use. More comparable with Acaia Pearl (only wayyy cheaper).

      • I have both. I love my Lunar, hate my black mirror (non smart version). The latter is too big for espresso, the buttons are unresponsive and hard to see and it goes flat faster than other scales. Lunar is far better in all the above, plus it has smart modes and bluetooth.

I'd get the latest version of the Lunar if I were you as it also has flow rate reading.

        • I'd get the latest version of the Lunar…

          When? Where?
Most retailers are still selling original variant.

          • +1

@SickDmith: Not available in Australia yet. Stock is limited, and being drip-fed on the Acaia website daily/weekly.

Accurate that they don’t go on sale often and you’ll be hard pressed to get them cheaper than this. I remember Inglewood had an insane sale on equipment in 2020 or 2021 which is unlikely to be repeated which included Acaia (maybe 30% from memory).

Maybe they will go on sale more often now there is a new model, although that being said, Acaia seems to never go on sale, and there appear to be supply issues with the new one.

For reference, I have owned mine since 2015 as a general purpose scale for the kitchen including dosing coffee, making cocktails, and as a waterproof scale for my drip tray. I wouldn’t own anything else.

The size is good in that it fits on drip trays. I would recommend buying the weighing plate so you can comfortably fit two cups side by side and/or a portafilter. Also for fitting larger bowls on, and you can use the app as a display for the mass if a large bowl or plate obscures the display.
Battery lasts forever, and mine has never died. I’m sure the Timemore is good. But Acaia have stood the test of time, and abuse in a hospitality setting.

    • You’re my hero. I almost picked up this and the lack of usb-c would have suuuucked

There is no reason to spend this much money on a scale like this even if you are a real barista boffin.

    Wven James Hoffman agrees

If you really want to be extravagant then buy the Timemore and save $200.

      Plenty of reasons:
      1. It auto tares and stops my shots at a desired weight on a Decent DE1.
      2. It's far faster and more sensitive than a lot of other scales.
      3. It's tiny and will likely fit beneath the group of all espresso machines even with a mug on top.

    • +1

Timemore doesnt have bluetooth connectivity (to app* or machine**) for those that need/want that.

You're limited to the Lunar, Decent (too bulky/tall for many), Skale (too bulky/tall for many), or the new Eureka Precisa (not yet released).

*Not talking about the official apps, which are largely rubbish (as per Hoffman review). I'm talking about Smart Espresso Profiler app, and the like.
      **eg. Decent.

But yes, overkill for most users. Most.

    • I have the timemore. It's good but it's not as good for timing espresso. It's fat and doesn't fit as well under some group heads. The lunar is kind of a different segment, it's much smaller. Wish there was a small alternative that's not $$$$

      • +2

Eureka Precisa could be that alternative…fingers crossed! :)

I hope so. I do want a replacement scale (I have a $20 amazon jewellery scale which is great and does the job but gets really wet/dirty and isn't easy to clean, and doesn't have a timer) but I seriously can't justify spending that kind of money on one.

          • -1

@Zenyatta: Yeah, I use a cheap jewellery scale too! My new machine coming in April hopefully (Argos) comes with an app with Bluetooth connectivity to pressure transducer & scales, hence why I'm wanting a BT scale…

Hoping that the Precisa comes out soon and is well reviewed, because saving a few hundred dollars from having to buy a Lunar would be great! :)

      • I downgraded/sidegraded from the original acaia pearl to the timemore black mirror and am very happy. It's slightly more responsive, has usb c and the lights are waaaay more visible than the white pearl. (Absolutely hated the lack of visibility in sunlight/outside when camping). Only downside is no BT - which I used a grand total of one time in 5 years.

Personally it's everything I need, fits nicely under LM linea mini with enough clearance for a small cup. And also big enough to use for pourover.

There's also the timemore black mirror nano which I considered but preferred the size of the original black mirror.

  • Finally get to use my coffee scale drawer, so sick of empty kitchen drawers.

  • This is what I use with my BDB to weigh my shots from portafilter straight into a mug on top of the scale

    Disenkelubo Scale

  • Any chance of another sale on this again?
