Solid little device. Was looking at these but at the end of the day I couldn't find any concrete evidence these supported usb c input charging. If that's not critical t you, they look like a solid choice!

I always look at that too as once you have had/used a laptop(s) capable of usb c charging which makes it much easier

to charge if you have more than one charging place and multipple usb c chargers. For me the ability to charge it in car/van as well as

powerbank is a must with my current lifestyle. Many of the Chromebooks and Lenovo laptops below $1000 have this feature,

but for other brands need to usually look at $1000+ to get a usb c pd charge port.

Ive got i5 model. Great device. Support USB C charging. Stylus is included. Very handy in tablet mode. Windows 11 tablet mode is very seemless.

      • That's great to hear they have certain models with the USB C charging ability. Does it still have a barrel charging

socket and charger (does not bother me as long as USB C works also)? Is the keyboard de-activated when in tablet mode

as read in one review from JB the listed model does not. Was the i5 model more $$ than this,…..on sale or not?

    • This comment is on JB's site:

"Niggles: the USB-C port does NOT support DisplayPort video or charging. Unlike pretty much any other laptop on the market this laptop can only use the USB-C as a USB port, which means the integrated USB-C dock in my dock is useless. It also means that a second (or replacement) power supply has to come from ASUS."

      To me, that's a total deal-breaker :(

  • When adding ram, do I need to worry about matching speeds and timing?

    • +4

RAM isn't going to run at two different speeds, it'll run at the slower of the two at the speed allowed by the hardware.

In other words, yes if you want to get the most out of it.

Edit: with the OPs reply for reference, ideally you'd get a 16GB 3200mhz (with same pins obv) but you'll find 16GB 2666mhz will still work about 90% as good

The RAM speeds are as follows for reference:

      8192 MB
      4 GB soldered + Samsung 4 GB DDR4-3200, 22-22-22-52, Dual-Channel

    No stock in WA.

How they heck do you check stock auswide on their site?

    • Don't they have stock status at store level (matched to postcode) and a separate online stock level i.e. Shipped from warehouse?

      • +1

McGowan won't let the stock make it past Checkpoint Charlie.

They had similar to this last November, bought one for my son for school.
The tablet mode will be really good once he gets the hang of it.

The trick is to get price beat at office work which is what I did

    • +1

Officeworks don't stock this model? They've got an i5 11th gen for a similar price ($797), or the newer 5500U model.

      • +4

        JB's one is touch screen!

        • +1

Oh damn didn't see OW one wasn't a touchscreen. So now there's no similar model at Officeworks at all

  • Pretty sure this is the one I bought last year and returned a couple of days later because the touchscreen was so poor. Could've been a defective item, but the touch only responded if you press and held for a while, rather than a simple tap. I really wanted to like it, but as it was for my child, a good touchscreen was essential.

  • none in vic as far as i can see, was available an hour ago

    you snooze you lose

    • JB Hobart has stock

  • Brisbane have stock? This actually any good?

  • can anyone recommend another virtually identical spec/price machine from other brands/shops

was in the process of buying whilst it sold out

    • This is a better deal and a better laptop. Deal expired but you may have luck negotiating a similar price with Lenovo online.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/678378

      • that would be perfect but recipient of this gift wants a touch screen

their usage is pretty basic and storage could be 128gb

Only the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex or HP Envy X360, which are hard to find in this price range when on sale.

  • How many nits is the display?

    • Not enough. 250 nits (peak)

  • Any one have to confirm if this supports Display Port through USB C? And how many external monitors?

Been burned on my last purchase on a model # technicality.

Looks like this thing isnt even available unless you live in TAS?

    • A lot already sold out within 1hr of my OP yesterday.

  • damn price is back at 1000… anyone have a receipt for a hopeful price match?

    • i thought stock might magically appear at the new price, but no good for VIC

  • it seems the market has a lot of the brands offering similar spec machines but with i3 processors

how much performance difference is it likely to cause? for browsing/movie purposes?
