Amazon is pretty good with returns. I'd do the read/write test before binning the box. They'll send a label to stick on the box and lots of drop off points.
I can't recall if it's the same case for US/UK amazon but I've bought a few HDD from amazon international with no issues.
Personally, I'd be game to buy and shuck this seagate drive.

Thanks, pulled the trigger, but split into two orders to avoid the import tax for purchases over $1,000.
Also, I have had bad luck with Seagate, so I will stick with wd, but thank you nonetheless.
If they are going to the same destination Customs may still combine the value.
That said you shouldn't pay any extra anyway as I dont think there's any duty on these, just GST which you've already paid to Amazon.
(If it was over $1000 Amazon shouldn't collect any GST as it becomes Customs responsibility)
(Think that's right, happy to be corrected otherwise)
Edit: OK, I see Customs charge an Import Processing Fee, and even when order is over $1000 Amazon is still charging GST and an import fee as well. Not sure why it's so high @ $213.48 for 4 drives as I thought should only be $50 (again, good chance I'm wrong) but it is a deposit and I believe they are supposed to refund any difference. Anyway, hopefully split orders go through without any issue.
@bamzero: Amazon will probably combine the orders and ship as one anyways.
Any recommendation on software to use for the read/write test
I use HD Tune. There's a few youtube video guides for guidance.
@Caped Baldy: Cool, thanks
can confirm it works for US Amazon, had one arrive DoA and they refunded no issues.
Not as cheap but Umart have local stock for $379 if that particularly concerns you.
Thanks, if they were in Vic, I'd go down that route.
Yeah for peace of mind, I'd rather pay extra $20 for local warranty support.
Thanks. Went for this as they’re local.
Amazon US/UK is actually Amazon Marketplace US/UK where Amazon buys the items off the Marketplace seller and then export it. In short, if its DOA, you are good. If you expect longer term support, it might be iffy.
Thanks for that information!
Sometimes, though sometimes it is Amazon stock. I usually replace the domain with the country of origin to get an idea of whether it's Amazon or 3rd party.
In this case, the 10TB looks to be shipped and sold by Amazon US.
I've always wondered about returning drives. Functional or not, there's no way I'd be sending my drives back - data can nearly always be recovered, unless the drives are incinerated.
I've purchased these expensive NAS drives in the past and it's always a bit stressful as I'd never actually put in a warranty claim, unless they were DOA.
Fair call. For my use case, that's not a concern. Anything of concern is always stored in multiple layers of encryption.
Can I add this 10TB to my NAS in RAID with my 4TB Red WD40EFRX. By having a 4GB partition for the RAID and leaving 6GB separate for less critical files?
get 4 or 5 or mroe of them depending the size of your NAS and RAID 5 them and your done.
you have Data Redundancy done.
Personally I'd go for this one at $329.57
10TB Elements Desktop Hard Drive - USB 3.0 - WDBWLG0100HBK-NESN

Pretty easy to shuck.
Are they red/white?
Last batch I bought was a white
I'd get the 14TB for $374 https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07YD3G568?th=1
gotta be quick, it's $408 now
Are these guaranteed CMR?
why go for this drive when the bare drive in this deal is only $10 more
and won't void your warranty?
if price was much lower then sure get the shuckable drive.
yeah, seems silly
I thought this was the pro version! Luckily I checked again.
Deal updated as it's now cheaper from Amazon AU at $339, albeit with a significant wait time of one to two months for delivery.
thought the US order would have shipped by now, but hasn't.
will claim price protection against the AU listing once it has
What would warranty be like, that's the only thing stopping me buying 4 of these. In terms of returning etc?
