    Yeh, no thanks

  • +17

Thanks OP. Bought 10 for my 2 minute noodles.

    • +1

not microwave safe so not much good for 2 minute noodles ……

      • +1

Information that would have been helpful BEFORE I blew 5.7k.

        Stove top?
Look. At worst I'll use these items to store new packets of 2 minute noodles inside, then in the pantry.

  • +3

Thanks OP. Was talking about it with my sis yesterday and now a deal. Got one as she’s into cooking.

    • normal discount on creuset in Australia is 20%, and they seem to control discount levels to stop race to bottom pricing ….. so I doubt you will see 50% sales in Australia …. I have some Chasseur which is often 50% off but I'd love some creuset at better than the 20% local discounts.

      • yeah i wanna wait a bit longer as well but her bday is coming soon and this is still a discount, even though it's not all time low

  • +1

I think your decimal place might be in the wrong spot??

    • +4

Double checked, you're right it should be $5723.00, still a great deal!

    • +4

      Yeah, was $20 here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/652888

      just sayin'

Functionally identical, but I read the cheaper enamel is prone to cosmetic problems such as staining, or chipping at the edge of the lid. (not happened to me yet)
And of course the cheap one does not have "Le Creuset" embossed.

Complaining about this would be like complaining about the price of a Louis Vuitton letter-opener. People know what they are getting and why. Don't they?
It'd cost even more if it had "Gordon Ramsey" or "Kylie Jenner"s name on it.

      • Get a set of Vuitton colouring pencils for $1k with less colouring performance compared to Faber-Castell Crayola

        • but you can pass em on to your kids!

          • @andresampras: I have 3 pieces of creust that I inherited from my mother, 35 years old and still great with no issues on the internal enamel ….

            • @garage sale: that's pretty darn impressive.

No wonder they have to charge exorbitant amounts for these things, there's only so many items an entire family tree can buy from the brand

      • Eh, I got a set of Gordon Ramsey tableware for ~$100, its cool, but not blowing me away.

  • +4

Can't justify the price if no 'Jamie Oliver' written elsewhere.

    • +9

      Unker Roger would disagree. :D

  • +6

    This or Kmart one

    • +6

I've cooked sourdoughs (230-250°c) and deep fried oil stuff in the cheap Kmart/Aldi ones for years.

Sure they are stained up and have burn marks, but they still work as intended. (and if/when it does go I'd just get another ~$30 one..)
Unless you're filthy rich I'm not sure what paying half a grand would have gotten me apart from a brand name. :/

      • Lol true I have the Kmart one for a year or two. It still doesn't stain and works for me in every way

  • +4

Cheapest I've seen elsewhere is $680

Um…Three camels 🐪🐫🐪 itself shows previous low of $320.99 and often dropped to $400

Info to keep in mind if chasing after this specific model and thinking long term to bequeath to kids

    • +3

Thanks, just looked around this morning, and fwit the $320 was four years ago…

      • +10

I assume you meant fwiw, and didn't mean to call someone a f-wit

        • Freudian slip?

    • I got one for just over $100 about a decade ago thanks to an Amazon price error.

  • +2

Or wait till the Staub 28cm drops to ~$300 on Amazon.

    • +1

Hanging out for this exact deal lol

  • +5

This is a deal if you're after Le Creuset but I just can't behind expensive enamel. Cheap enamel should still perform the same cooking wise, so it's really only durability I'd be concerned about. You could buy 10 ALDI enamel stockpot for the outlay of $572. You'd likely need to be gentler on the enamel, hand washing only, using nonstick utensils and no steel scourers.. but you'd be silly to do any of the above with a $500 Dutch oven too.

Full disclosure I'm just having a winge. I only cook with seasoned cast iron, stainless and Borosilicate glass. Never used expensive Le Creuset.. so who knows, maybe it's heavenly.

    • +2

Wish there was somehow a hard-set criteria for percentage of consistent cooking performance/health compared to maintenance/upkeep for product comparisons

    • And you could bequeath 10x the pots too

    • +3

Prices on Le Creuset have gone ridiculous.
It's like they're doubling tripling down on the price disparity now that there's uber-cheap competition in the enamelled cast-iron space!

They're a step above in quality, and the replacement guarantee is legitimate (I've used it successfully), but as rightly pointed out, you can buy 10 cheap pots for the same money and they'll still do a perfectly reasonable job in both the appearance and utility spaces.

    • I have an Aldi dutch oven and while it's good they only ever do the 3.7L pot which is just a little too small for most dishes I cook, also the lid is only oven-safe to 200c.

      • In the same boat, 3.7L is fine most of the time for a single or a couple, but it would be nice to have a larger option so I'm not flinging stuff all over the stove when I'm stirring or I want to cook more for multiple meals or for visitors. Watching a 28cm Staub on Amazon to go on special.

        • +1

You won’t regret it, the extra space makes cooking with it much more comfortable and the inner coating cleans up more easily than the Aldi. Was able to crank out fried chicken for 10 people in half an hour over the weekend and it’s great for doing a big batch of bolognese or curry.

    • hand washing only, using nonstick utensils

      It is enamel, not Teflon!
I'd treat the ALDI rougher than the French one. It may not be quite as tough, but a hell of a lot easier to replace if it degrades in a few years.

  • Full of food this would be a 2 person job to remove off a stove top…..the weight would be quite significant!

    • One person can do it :)

      • +1

        Ah Amazon descriptions

        4.54 g

so filled weight is somewhere between 7kg and 20kg depending on food density, and at a standing height?

        • +1

Lmao a pot this size at only 5grams! That's gotta be next level material. Someone tell NASA they can save billions by creating rockets made exclusively out of these pots.

  • +6

I have a le creuset frying pan, it has lasted years and still performs as new. It weighs a ton though and I have a right arm like Glenn Quagmire now.
    This stuff is very heavy.

    • +1

Do you have trouble wiggity-wiggity-washing your le creuset?

The worst thing for me with these heavy pots is the washing up. Tiring and messy.

  • +4

It's only 20% off… You can get 40% at their once a year outlet sale but even Myer and David Jones offer 30% off several times a year

    • Got this for wife 10/2019 for $461 from amazon
    • was sent in retail packaging no shipping box
    • outside of box was trash (not presentable for gift)
    • complained to amazon & got $125 refunded
    • the thing is solid AF 10/10 would recommend
    • +1

Great to hear + partial refund

My recent experiences with customer service seem loathe to provide partial refunds; instead requiring fully resending both inexpensive and expensive items back before they reimburse the return postage cost and refund the item

  • +1

Or you could just buy a Chasseur brand since this is ozbargain after all, even if you "love cooking".

  • +1

I bought the bk bourgogne for $130. If I was going to buy a Dutch oven, I thought it should at least be Dutch.

  • Pyrolux for $90 @ Victoria's Basement
Been using for a few years very regularly, no complaints. This kind of product seems so excessive

    • Made in China vs Made in France.

I’d go for Chasseur as it seems to be double in price of Pyrolux but it is made in France too.

  • +4

Bit of comparison for you $29 vs $570. 75% Score vs 86% score.

  • I tried the Aldi (24cm? pot) to see if I would use it much and it's pretty good. Aldi just doesn't clean as well, leaves stains, but gives it some character. Le Creuset (30cm casserole) is smoother on the surface and doesn't stain. I like using both.

    • I've got an Aldi one also, and I find that a few seconds with a stainless steel scourer gently removes most of the staining after cooking.

  • Don't forget to get the proper cleaner https://www.amazon.com.au/Creuset-Accessories-Cast-Cookware-…

    They must be tripping biscuits.

    • Or you could just get a non scratching brush and clean soon after you finish cooking

  • good deal, cheaper than gold version

  • I recall picking up a few of these for around $300 at one point. That was a good price.

  • Wow, I own one this size and one the next size up. Had them for 25 or so years so forgot what I paid. But seeing the current prices I think I’ll put them in a bank vault.

  • +2

Could never justify splurging on one of these. Yes it will last your lifetime however cheaper options still get the job done.

My $25 Aldi one is still going strong after 2 years with no issues.

    • Got one from Harris Scarfe 13 years ago for $30, still fine. A couple of chips around the top rim, need to tighten the screw on the lid occasionally, but otherwise it still makes great bread and casseroles.

Edit: oh wow it's identical to this one. I think it had Martha Stewart on the box or something.

  • Needs to be Gold plated for this price

  • There is a 24cm one in Costco for 289. I own one and really good quality.
    https://www.costco.com.au/Kitchen-Laundry-Appliances/Kitchen…

  • +1

Why people need to justify their 25 dollar Kmart variant purchase on this thread?
PS no I don't own one of these

  • For those not willing to shell out for a Le Creuset, maybe consider a Cuisinart. I saw a youtube video from America's Test Kitchen recommending it in lieue of a Le Creuset.

  • I got the lodge enameled. Not made in USA like their original cast iron which isn't enameled but quality seems good for its price

  • +1

'don't have to treat it with a lot of respect'

I beg to differ, you have to treat it with a lot of respect compared to a regular cast iron dutch oven/casserole dish. Can't heat it up too quickly or empty, or pour cold water on a hot pan otherwise the enamel will crack.

Don't get me wrong, I'd still love to get a Le Creuse dutch oven/casserole dish but can't justify the price. A generic one will do the same 95% of the job at 5% of the price.

  • The price is outrageous. I bought the same in red for £120 off Amazon whilst living in the UK.

  • I remember getting this for $77 thanks to an Amazon stuff up around 4 years ago. One of my best buys. Still looks brand new.

  • Still rocking mine for a quarter of this price :)

    • I remember being in the UK and having a way easier time finding them cheap(er)

We've had price gouging with RATs…not again with the pots. :)
