Seems like a pretty good deal for 5G!

  • -5

please prove me wrong this not another lame deal of postcodes that are valid that make no sense

    • +3

I've tried a list of WA postcodes. Yet to find one that doesn't work.

      • +1

I have tried few postcodes from South of Perth and they are working

  • +2

Optus also appears to currently have a deal on the 500GB/month SIM plan which is not limited to WA addresses. Normally $115/month. Currently $65/month for the next 12 months. So its close to half price.

    • get the MCG named Optus Cricket Ground and we'll talk.

  • So what you need to make it work, WA address?

    • I guess so.

Edit: Comment below says they had success just entering a WA post code to get to the order screen.

  • How many of these deals can you have?
Can you buy 3 or 4 and data pool together?

    • Share your data
Across eligible Optus Choice Plus plans on the same account.

    • Terms and conditions in the linked page says 5 port ins

  • Even at half price, it's hard to justify $270/year instead of Boost $150/year and Telstra coverage. Not fussed on 5G

    • +1

5G is the main draw here I'd say. Perhaps the Optus network may also suit some people better than other networks.

      • +2

Oh I get it and I'm not negging the deal for that reason, just funny the mental thought once you get used to paying yearly

      • +2

Personally i think 5G is overrated given the speeds that 4G already offers, and Telstra/boost in WA is exceptional in regional areas.

        • The 4G network can get over congested in many metro areas. Since moving to 5G I've never run into the issue where I've had full bars but nothing loading since there's barely anyone on it.

        • My wife ported to Boost last week and we were driving in suburban Perth pulling 330Mbps on 4G.
Amazing compared to Optus and Vodafone.

    • +1

Does Boost allow the eSim that you can get with Telstra/Optus for things like an Apple Watch?

    • +1

The optus sport sub alone is worth $180rrp for the 12 months

    • It's a lot more GBs.
+ Optus Sport (if you are into that)
      and as pointed out 5g.

To each their own, but I wouldn't say Boost is the much better deal.

Personally I think Woolworths $150/year is the best if you can handle 8.3GB per month and the Telstra wholesale network. The 10% off a shop per month can put it into negative dollars.

      • If you don't need 5G then Boost $228 280GB = 23.33GB per month is a much better deal than the Optus $270 20GB per month = 240GB.
The Optus $330 80GB per month = 960GB beats it, though there are better deals if you could be bothered sim swapping every month.

  • Cheers OP!
This is an awesome deal for 5G

  • Great price for the 80gb, works for 6111.

    • +3

      But calling 000 doesn't need 80gb data :P (6111 joke…)

    • Represent 👌☝️☝️☝️

    • 6111 letsgooo

  • 6008 works

  • For those using WA post codes, how do you actually get the sim card delivered to you?

    • Send it to your WA address?

    • For those using WA post codes

Notice they all live in Perth…?

    • esim?

      • This’d be almost too good to be true…

        • +1

There is an esim delivery option on the order page.

      • Yer seems like E sim is the go for those who "live" in WA.

        • I bought the esim option after misreading the list of eligible devices (I.o.w. my device doesn't allow for esim). Any idea how to sort this out?

          • @FoxBaer: You need to contact optus to sort it out. They'll mail you a sim card and disable the Esim I think.

Also relevant to @killua27 you only need the post code to get through the front page. The address you provide (at least at time of sign up) does not need to be in WA. So you can get the sim card delivered straight to your home (If you don't live in WA) without issue.

    • Wondering about this too, my phone doesn’t use esim and would need the physical sim

  • How long is this deal available? I bought some boost credit only the other day

  • Any way to test 5g reception easily/quickly? I'm just about on the border on their 5g coverage map. Was thinking of buying a cheap prepaid sim but they don't offer 5g

    • Optus Flex, can sign up for 1 day for $2 and use eSIM so you can get going straight away.

      • Cheers mate looks like just what I need, will look into that!

    • I'd ask a friend!

  • Has anyone been able to apply this on their existing optus plans?

    • I believe the only way you can do this is port out and port back in again.

      • +1

Just called in. Yeah they aren't being flexible. I think previous 50% off deal back in 2021 June, they were offering 12 months but you could call in/message them and get an extension to 24 months deal.

This time around they keep saying can't enter into the system (Bllsht) and try to palm you off to go call them back when its ending promotion time for you (which translated means "sorry the promotion is ended now, nothing you can do now")

        • I went onto live chat to switch my plan (I'm on a really old 4G-only plan for $35/month) to prepaid to try and tactic my way into a "new service" and they straight up offered me (unprompted) a 10% discount on my current plan. I asked if it could be applied to a 5G plan instead, so they gave me $10 off for the next 12 months on the $45 plan. It's no more than I currently pay so I took it.

    • No luck here. Was on an old $40/month postpaid plan from 2017. No luck applying it via the cart to my existing number, and no luck through chat. I switched to prepaid via chat, and the retention rep offering $10 off the current $45/month plus extra data. Should have taken that offer but switched to prepaid, thinking I could get the deal in the OP that way - no such luck.

  • +3

not limited to WA, just put 6000, then in the sign up screen put your home address (I did VIC) worked fine

    • Sucks that I just ported into Boost from Optus like 2 wks ago. I tried calling Optus up for a deal and they said call back closer when contract is expiring

    • Wow, thanks for checking. Will try it out then!

      • how is it going? success?

        • NSW Works too. Done and dusted. 22.50 a month for a year! I can then transfer back to Telstra for a sweet JB Credit (in a year)

          • @MrMoo: Great! Thanks for confirming!

            • @r0xz: No problems mate. Enjoy! =)

  • WA just built different

  • Besides EPL, what other sports do U watch on Optus sport?

    • Their workouts are good, if you have big living room to work out in front of the TV.

    • They cover more football than just EPL

Their world cup coverage was good and they also show a lot of internationals such as nations league and euro's

  • International Talk & Text Not Included - for the $22.5 option

    • whoops - updated.

  • Wow, that is exceptional good value for Optus. Why it is WA only is a shame and non sensical.

edit: OK, makes sense seeing as they have naming rights to a stadium in WA.

  • +1

Too bad the international roaming fees suck these days. Optus plans used to allow you to use 2gig of your data overseas at no extra cost.

    • +2

Overseas? You mean Rotto? Inclusions work at Rotto. (WA joke)

    • Initially it was 4GB from memory, then they had the 2GB and 4GB offerings on the $59 and $69 plan respectively.

      Missed those days….

  • When does this deal expire? I have 3 months of current plan left.

  • Messaged optus asking if I can step down from the $65/month 500GB plan (currently on 50% off) to the choice medium 80GB plan. They wont allow a straight switch. So thinking of porting out then back in.
Anyone had any experience with something like this before?

    • You could also try switching to prepaid and then switch back. The order form allows you to move from prepaid to plan.

If you do it (ask to switch to prepaid) through live chat on the Optus app they might even offer you a discount before changing it, like they did for me (see above - I didn't ask for one). If not, then I guess you can still try with the switch and then sign up for the plan. So long as you're not currently contracted, I imagine!

  • +1

Do we know when this deal ends?

  • Has anyone tried in QLD?

    • +1

Trying now, I’ll let you know lol

    • Thanks for saying yes to Optus. We've received your mobile order for ********** and we're getting things underway.

      Fingers crossed. I selected eSIM.

      • what about your residential address?

        • Queensland address. I used Perths postcode for the “check your eligibility here”.

          • @rye: So, did the purchase go through with QLD residential address?

            • +1

@Pokharabluez: Got an order confirmation. Waiting on provisioning and an email re setting up eSIM. I’m porting my number.

  • So what happens after 12 months goes back to normal price or continue with the discount price?

    • Reverts to standard price after 12 months

  • Successful port in using eSIM in NSW. Took around an hour to confirm/activate/port out. Thanks!

  • Has anyone got this to work porting in from an Optus MVNO?

    I'm with Circles.life

  • What's the best and cheapest way to port out of optus and so I can port back in

    • A real OzBargainer has a drawer full of prepaid SIM cards, like the 1c Kogan ones that went on sale today

  • My port to esim just went live. Still can’t access the app, but calls are working. 4G seems a little slow in my area compared to Telstra

    • Did you port from Telstra? eSIM to eSIM?
I haven’t got an email yet to setup eSIM. My order was confirm about 2 hours ago

      • +1

Sim to eSIM. I would say mine took roughly 2 hours from submitting order to going live.

        • The Optus app says “eSIM_Pending” and when I select the service it says:

Sorry we’re unable to set up your eSIM at this time due to a system error. Please message us and we’ll get it sorted for you.

Just wondering if this is the standard message until the service is live? Or if I should contact support, or wait till tomorrow for it to active!

          • +1

@rye: Mine said that for a while, even after the service going live. After waking go this morning it’s appears to be fixed.

          • @rye: Same issue…see what tomorrow brings.

            • @awaddell: I did a chat this afternoon with Optus, apparently my current provider (Amaysim) hasn’t actioned the port to Optus.

            • @awaddell: Port from SIM to eSIM was successful. Used an non-WA address.

    • At my work I'm getting about 1/6 the speed vs Telstra lol. I'm not sure if worth it….. But I save $150 over 12 months. I can always change back I guess.
