Whatever happened to android one, to allow other manufactures to have faster updates.

    • I have been using the Motorola one vision for the last 2 years, and have been receiving monthly updates. Unfortunately, their latest phones don't have Android one.

No wireless charging…how frustrating. Otherwise looks impressive. Basically a Poco F3 but with better localisation and support.

    • +2

Indeed, I've got too many wireless chargers around the house so can't justify buying a new phone without it, otherwise specs look good!

Snapdragon 870 is made by TSMC and should run cooler than 888.

  • +2

So close, just missing the expandable storage.

For all intents and purposes this should be cross shopped with the Poco F3 as mentioned above (Which I own)
Also as per this article, Optus 5G not supported - https://www.gadgetguy.com.au/motorola-edge-20-pro-5g-very-hi…

Way overpriced at original RRP $899 but quite competitive at this price point.
Camera quality is better than the Poco F3 and lack of stereo speaker lowers it a few points for me but otherwise if you prefer getting a phone via retail this is a good deal.

The Poco is blistering fast with the same chipset so I would expect the Motorolla to be almost idential in terms of performance.
VOLTE & VOWIFI without jumping through hoops is another bonus.

This thing has 12GB of RAM, whilst the F3 has 8GB - probably won't change your life, but something to consider I suppose

      • Used a 4GB Oppo A52 and that was torture. (6GB minimum for an Android handset in my opinion)
12GB is overkill in my use case, How many chrome tabs/applications does one need to have stored in memory. It's a nice to have but people shouldn't be too concerned.

  • Thoughts on this vs Oppo Find X2 Pro?

    • +1

Not to flex but being a tech nut I have the following phones

      (Find X2 pro, Find X3 pro, Poco F3, Realme 7 5G, Poco X3 NFC)

The X2 Pro to me is the better handset, You're talking about full IP water/dust resistance, build quality, camera quality, Faster charging. It was a premium flagship afterall,

The Motorolla is more of a mid-ranger, Targeting different markets. If you have the X2 Pro this would be a downgrade but a decent second phone

Much better cameras on the Find X2 Pro. This doesn't have OIS on the main lens which is a bit stingy for a $899 RRP device. The 8MP f/3.4 periscope camera isn't flagship grade either.

I had the Edge 20 Fusion for a bit (which uses the same main camera unit - Samsung HM2) and was not impressed with the photos. The processing should be better on the Pro, but even with GCam the fusion sucked. The cheap Poco X3 Pro takes much better pics with GCam.

I think the HM2 might be a bit of a sensor for the marketing departmends - 108MP on a budget - it has not been used in any real flagships.

  • worth the upgrade from a G8plus?

  • +2

The Edge 30 series is close now, isn't it?

Presumably, these prices will continue to fall.

  • Good all-round phone, especially with that SOC and camera sensor. Would be perfect with OIS, but you generally can't expect that at this price point (unless it's Samsung).

NB: Obligatory lacks a headphone jack and SD card slot.

    • +1

With Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 launches, Snapdragon 870 phone prices will drop down to $500 or under just like it happened last year with the gen 1 edge series

This will be a good price at half-price, RRP $899, grab for $449

      • I've been waiting for that price too, the SD 870 (865) is a great chip but it's a few generations old at this point. I would expect this or the SD 778 model to drop to those prices in the coming months.

  • How's this phone compared with ASUS Zenfone 8, which was on sale for same price last week? TIA

  • The RRP of this phone just went from $899 to $699. Definitely hold out if you can.

    • Where did you see the RRP drop. $699 in JB was last ticket price

  • picked up moto edge 20 in last sale and I was unable to stream amazon prime in HD and returned the phone. Make sure you check it before you buy

  • Anyone got this Edge 20 Pro and can confirm VoLTE on Telstra?
And while I am at it, on other networks?
    And VoWifi and IPSMS?

This review says "VoLTE – carrier dependent – generally yes"
