To preempt the question that someone will inevitably ask, Apple On Campus (AOC) Education Stores (e.g. Australian Education Union, University of South Australia) are classified as EPP portals by Apple, and are therefore excluded from any cashback offers from Cashrewards (and ShopBack, for that matter).

  • Does this also work for products like the beats studio buds?

    • Get the beats fit pro instead. Better ANC, transparency mode and H1 chip.

  • Best place for discounted gift cards right now, even 5%?

    • +17

It depends on how much effort you want to put into obtaining gift cards:

      • A number of discounted gift card portals are selling Apple gift cards at a 5% or 6% discount (before taking into account any transaction fees). Keep in mind most portals have a limit on the amount of Apple gift cards you can purchase in one day or one week (typically $1000). For example:
      • Reward Gateway allows a maximum of $1100 across three transactions per day. ($500, $300 and $300).
      • HCF Thank You enforces a $2000 limit per transaction and a limit of $2500 in a week.
      • AAMI Lucky Club (and Suncorp Benefits) enforces a $1000 limit per day. (Yes, they’re still active for now.)
      • Redeem Your Gift Card sells a $3000 Apple gift card, so I presume you can purchase a maximum of $3000 per day.
      • If you go to Coles, you can purchase TCN Kids gift cards at a 10% discount. You can then go to JB Hi-Fi in-store and use these cards to purchase Apple gift cards (assuming staff will let you do this). You may run into the odd staff member who will not let you do this, but the vast majority of staff are fine with this.

      • If you go to Woolworths, you can get 20x Everyday Rewards points on the purchase of Ultimate Home gift cards (equivalent to 10% of the gift card’s value returned to you in the form of Everyday Rewards points). You can then go to JB Hi-Fi in-store and use these cards to purchase Apple gift cards (assuming staff will let you do this). You may run into the odd staff member who will not let you do this, but the vast majority of staff are fine with this.

I think the reward gateway limit varies by employer, experienced it with one but not another. I didn't find the limit with the second employer

      • Interesting - can you use a JB Hi-Fi gift card to buy another gift card? I tried buying Google Play with JB and they said it wouldn't work.

        • +1

You cannot use a JB Hi-Fi gift card to purchase another JB Hi-Fi gift card. That stopped about a year ago.

You can use a JB Hi-Fi gift card to purchase other kinds of gift cards (e.g. Apple, Steam, PlayStation, Xbox), but if you’re in-store, it is at the discretion of staff.

I used mac bank recently. Max $3k for a single GC and I was able to buy another $50 GC right after so the limit seems higher.

      Macquarie Marketplace is dead easy.

Buy online and get the code to your email in minutes.

      • Thanks for the tip! I had forgotten about Macquarie marketplace.

      • Oh man I didn't know about marketplace - just signed up to a Macquarie account online and got access to it immediately. Very easy. Thanks!

      • how much GC discount is on Macquarie?

  • +3

That cap sours the deal somewhat.

    • Indeed, 5.5 cashback from shopback without cap was a better deal for macbook pro

      • +5

Yes, but it’s not eligible for 14/16 M1 pro/max MacBook Pro.

        • Which one? Cashrewards or shopback not eligible?
Edit. Got it. Shopback was not eligible for new macbook. Feeling better now :)

  • Guys, just double checking to see if I can get cashback on a phone accessory product such as:

Thanks, purchased iPad Pro 11 inch. Hope the cashback will be tracked.

Is Cashback eligible on purchases paid with apple ID account balance?

    • +1

I would like to know this as well

      • +2

I asked this question last year. Never received an official answer from any reps of CR or SB.

  • Anyone know if this will work on an iPhone pro even if I don’t have an Education email? Thanks

    • +2

I don't think there is an educational discount on iPhones

  • Hello, does anyone know if I buy a MacBook air and a iPad pro 12.9 in 2 transections, will I get 2x $100 cashback?

    • No.

It’s a $100 cap per member for the duration of this deal. If you purchase a MacBook Air and an iPad Pro through the Apple Education Store today, you’ll only get a maximum of $100 cashback.

I note that you can also get 5% uncapped cashback through the regular Apple Store at the moment (which is higher than the regular 1.5% cashback), but you’ll then miss out on education pricing at Apple.

  • Does this work for apple watches?

    • +1

      You would assume so

Ineligible for cashback until further notice (updated 11/01/22): 9th Gen iPad, New iPad Mini, Apple Pro Display XDR, Gift Cards, Gift Wrap, Shipping, Apple Developer Programs, AppleCare products purchased individually or after applicable product has been shipped.

      • When I click on Apple watches it takes me away from the education store and the tracking is gone.

  • Anyone received tracking so far?

I see up to 7 days, hopefully it’s shorter than that like other merchants so we know if it tracked successfully today.

    • +1

Tracking came through. For me it was a a little less 24 hours.

As well as account balance worked for tracking hopefully it'll be fine.

  • Trying to get an iPhone 13, wasn't sure if this deal is better than the current JB deal with $100 off for 128GB, so price would be $1249 x 0.9 TCN gift card = $1124
    Anyone shed some light please?

    • +6

tl;dr the least stressful option is to get the iPhone 13 from JB Hi-Fi

      Scenario 1

If you are going to pay for your Apple order via credit card, you’d only get $98.11 in cashback via Cashrewards, so you’d effectively pay $1250.89 for the iPhone 13. In this case, JB Hi-Fi is cheaper.

      Scenario 2

If you are going to pay for your Apple order via Apple gift cards that you get at a 5% discount from a number of discounted gift card portals, you’d effectively pay $1183.44 for the iPhone 13. In this case, JB Hi-Fi is cheaper.

      Scenario 3

If you go to JB Hi-Fi and purchase $1350 worth of Apple gift cards using 10% off TCN gift cards, you’d effectively pay $1215 for those gift cards. I visited 3x JB Hi-Fi stores over the last month and could not find any variable load Apple gift cards, but if you can get 6x $200 Apple gift cards, 1x $100 Apple gift card and 1x $50 Apple gift card, you’ll be within the gift card limit Apple applies to each order (i.e. 8), so you should get $98.11 cashback, which means you’d effectively get the iPhone 13 for $1116.89. It’s cheaper than buying the iPhone 13 direct from JB Hi-Fi, but you’re only saving a handful of dollars for a lot of extra hassle…

      Scenario 4

If you go to JB Hi-Fi and purchase $1350 worth of Apple gift cards using 10% off TCN gift cards, you’d effectively pay $1215 for those gift cards. However, if you have to get more than 8 Apple gift cards from JB Hi-Fi, you then have to load some or all of the gift cards onto your Apple Account Associated Balance to get around Apple’s gift card redemption limit. The issue with this is that no one has confirmed whether paying using the Apple Account Associated Balance will still be eligible for cashback, so there’s a chance you’d end up with $0 cashback.

      • +1

so there’s a chance you’d end up with $0 cashback

If that happens, you can cancel your order (within 14 days).

The other question is can you cancel an Apple order paid using a mixture of gift cards, and your Apple Account Balance? I have not tried it.

I assume if they do allow it, the funds simply go back to the respective gift cards. Therefore, don't throw away those redeemed gift cards if you are planning to cancel.

        • +2

If that happens, you can cancel your order (within 14 days).

True, but I’ve had one situation recently where I’ve had an order track and a cashback amount above $0 was listed for the transaction, but a few weeks after the order tracked, the cashback amount was automatically adjusted to $0. To be fair, I used a voucher code in that transaction, but the cashback page did not state whether or not voucher codes were permitted. (Before you ask, this was not through Cashrewards nor ShopBack.)

The other question is can you cancel an Apple order paid using a mixture of gift cards, and your Apple Account Balance?

I’m assuming you can do that, and my assumption is:

          • For the portion of the transaction paid for with Apple gift cards, the funds would be returned to the Apple gift card, because I know for a fact that funds can be loaded back onto an Apple gift card.1 Definitely don’t throw the gift cards out!

          • For the portion of the transaction paid for with an Apple Account Associated Balance, the funds would be returned to the Apple Account Associated Balance.

          1. This means that Apple’s gift cards are likely exempt from Australia’s gift card laws, but that’s a discussion for another day!

      • Thanks for your thorough analysis, JB currently have a sale on their iPhone 13, is there a reason you didn't use the sale price $1249?

        • Because the iPhone 13 128GB is sold at $1349 at Apple, not $1249. Also, all four scenarios assume you purchase the iPhone at Apple, not JB Hi-Fi, so JB Hi-Fi’s sales price is irrelevant.

You cannot get Apple through the regular Apple Store website to price match JB Hi-Fi. You can get Apple over-the-phone (at 133 MAC) or in a physical store to price match JB Hi-Fi, but then you’d miss out on cashback.

  • Any special hoops to jump through to purchase via the Education Store?

  • Thanks OP, glad i held out, just bought a MBA + AirPod3.

  • +1

Not sure if it's worth getting an iPad Air now with this deal + the back to school promotion, or wait for a possible update in March.

    • ipad air 4 + airpods or ipad air 5.
Price unknown for both after March
cashback should come every 1-2 months, but newest device may not eligible for any cashback.
      I am also thinking

  • Thanks! Put in an order for regular iPad, they are nowhere to be found, so a bit of wait.

I guess if a decent deals comes along can always cancel but I doubt the price (with cashback) can be beaten, only if local stock suddenly pops up (unlikely).

    • Do you mean an iPad (9th Gen)?

      • Yeah, the 9th Gen released in 2021. Out of stock everywhere. Especially the cheaper 64GB Wi-Fi variant, that everybody goes after. Unless extra storage is absolutely necessary, it doesn't make sense to pay nearly 50% more for the 256GB.

        • Unfortunately iPad (9th Gen) is ineligible for cashback:

Ineligible for cashback until further notice (updated 11/01/22): 9th Gen iPad

I don’t think base model iPads have ever been eligible for cashback.

          • +2

            @WookieMonster: Burst his bubble… sorry…

          • +2

@WookieMonster: Oh damn it, thanks for pointing it out to avoid future disappointment.

I did noticed something was said about the 9th Gen iPad but assumed it was to do with the AirPod offer and did not pay much attention.

Oh well, I guess if the 9th Gen turns up sooner at a local store it will be less of a dilemma to wait or to pay a bit more but getting it sooner. It's for school BYOD, so sooner the better.

            • @browser:

              sooner the better

              True.

The only way you could get a 9th Gen iPad lower than $469 is through discounted Apple gift cards (e.g. through discounted gift card portals, through using discounted TCN/Ultimate gift cards to purchase Apple gift cards at JB Hi-Fi).

  • Thanks mate!

  • +1

How long this offer may last? Any idea?

I plan to return a product that I am receiving today unopened and purchase again on this offer

    • +2

It says towards the top of the Cashrewards page:

      Ends 11:59pm 31/01 AEDT.

        Thanks. Missed it!

This is great, was waiting for a promo to upgrade my 2013 MacBook Air. Combined with education discount, free airpods and $55 off through reward gateway with my partner's company, ended up being a saving of over $400.

    • +2

Cashback is ineligible on EPP purchases (Employee Purchase Program).

It's only for the education store not EPP.

      • Yes, I purchased gift cards through my partner's reward gateway. I personally am eligible for the education store so was able to purchase through education store while using the benefit of some discount through reward gateway giftcards.

  • Can anyone use this?

I went to check out and it seemed like it didn't verify whether I was a uni student?

    • +2

Officially speaking, the following groups of people are the only people who are eligible to order from the Apple Education Store:

      • A full time or part time student aged 18 or over with a current student union card or student identification card and studying at an accredited Australian university or other Apple approved institution; or

      • A lecturer or staff member at an accredited Australian university; or

      • A teacher or lecturer working at an Apple approved and registered education establishment within Australia.

In reality, if you are purchasing from the Apple Education Store website, they very rarely verify your eligibility to access the Apple Education Store, even if you choose to click and collect from a physical Apple Store. Keep in mind that Apple reserve the right to audit your order and ask for your eligibility, but I don’t recall anyone mentioning on OzBargain within the last year or so that their order was audited.

      • +2

cheers for that! makes you wonder why people would order from the normal site

        • +2

A lot of people probably think you need to be verified through UNiDAYS (which requires you to log into your education institution to verify your student status) or have an active education email address to access the discount.

I’m a little surprised that Apple does not do either (at the moment), especially since you must be verified through UNiDAYS to access the student plan for Apple Music.

          • +1

            @WookieMonster:

I’m a little surprised that Apple does not do either (at the moment)

Likewise, for the AOC EPP Edu Store (which has a slightly higher discount).

I bought my 11 iPad Pro 7 days ago missed this 8% cash back ;/

  • Just received the email from Cashrewards with the tracking. Strangely, it said $1,226.36 which is the cost excl. GST. and the cash back amount is $98.11

    (I ordered MBA M1 for $1,349 w/ AirPods)

Is it the same for you?

PS. I paid with gift cards at 5% off, so I paid $1,183.44 for MBA M1 & AirPods 2nd gen.

    • Did you pick up both the MBA and AirPods today?

I only picked up the MBA and AirPods are being delivered but only tracked at $1027.27 which I'm thinking the the pre-GST price without the AirPods price added.

      • I had instore pickup at Chatswood for both items. I had free engrave in the bag, but didn’t want to wait. Get a new one instead. So pickup all in one go.

      • +3

I have similar cashrewards tracking issue. As my airpod is delivered, so only got an email for the airpod amount being tracked. Does anyone have an idea whether there will be another update on the tracked amount for the main item?

        • Same here, iPad delivery is a few weeks out and only the airpods have shipped, so have only got confirmation for the airpods amount being tracked. No idea if it will update, if it doesn't update itself I plan to dispute it once the iPad has shipped

          • @bolt: Same for me. I really hope that my iPad Pro is tracked and the cashback added, when it ships in a couple of weeks. I'm a bit nervous though.

            • +2

@apcichosz: I am too man, it's a big difference in cashback!

        • me too, only the airpods got tracked. Not the macbook air.

        • My airpods got the cashrewards tracking the same day it shipped. Mac shipped the following day (received today), yet still haven't received tracking confirmation from CashRewards. Hopefully it comes through soon.

        • +1

Similar situation. Didn't receive cashback for the main item, only the free AirPods so I've submitted a claims enquiry since it's been 7 days.

          • @Skinny Mocha: Anyone received cash back tracking if the main item is shipped separately than the AirPods?

  • Cashrewards did not track for me and it's been hours :( I guess it can take days…

    • +3

      Above said after shipment.

And as you can see above, I had instore pickup within 2 hours after order.

      • For your order, approximately how long did it take from payment to tracking email by CR?

        • +1

Order around 11:15am, pickup at 1:30pm, email received around 9:15pm, all on same day.

  • +1

Anyone received cash back tracking if the main item is shipped separately than the AirPods?

  • Hi
I missed the Increased cashback. Was just wondering if anyone would know if ShopBack or cashback have increased cashbacks often, or does it have a regular trend ?
    Thanks

    • I checked last time the increased cash back could happen around once a month, but could also every few months. The cashback rates could be different too. If you want the free AirPods too, then it’s hard to say it will have another increased cashback before the the free AirPods end. You could wait and decide before the AirPods promotion end.

  • Bought an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil and paid with Apple gift card and App Store credit. The cashback is tracked on the free AirPods and Apple Pencil, iPad Pro was shipped 3 days ago and arrived today, hope the cashback can be tracked as its hasn’t been tracked yet.
