  • Kids looks good for the JB HIFI cards, can they be stacked with discounted Coles gift cards?
I've put up an ad in classifieds looking for them >6% off.

can they be stacked with discounted Coles gift cards?

It depends on a number of factors:

      • If you have a Coles Groceries & Returns gift card or a Coles Groceries gift card, the answer is no. You’ll get an error if you swipe or scan this type of gift card in a transaction where you’re trying to buy a gift card. I mention this type of gift card, because Prezzee gift cards can be swapped for this type of Coles gift card.

      • If you have another type of Coles gift card and you try to purchase a gift card at a self-serviced checkout, it may not work. I tried this within the last month, and as soon as I selected Gift Card on the payment screen, I got an error message saying that you cannot use gift cards to pay for gift cards. The checkout assistant will need to clear the error message before you can proceed with a different payment method, and they’ll usually (politely) remind you that you cannot use gift cards to pay for gift cards at Coles.

      • If you go through a serviced checkout (i.e. the checkouts where a staff member packs your groceries for you, or the service desk), it is at the discretion of the staff member. In my experience, a lot of staff members will say “no, you cannot use gift cards to buy gift cards”, and you have no recourse, because that’s exactly what is written in the Coles Group’s gift card terms of use.

Where do you get them for 4% off without memberships?

I’m fairly sure that is not possible. To be fair, it is quite hard to find discounted Coles gift cards anyway, particularly when compared with discounted Woolworths Group gift cards.

      • -1

Sounds like it is more hassle then its worth, but to be fair you could pay 10% off for him gift cards, then 10% off for coles gift cards at shops on the list then 10% off for him gift cards at coles again etc.

        • I’d like to know which participating retailers of any of the gift cards in this deal (or the Him gift cards mentioned by you) will sell Coles gift cards. I’m fairly sure none of them do so.

          • -1

@WookieMonster: I'm not sure either but they do sell visa gift cards which can be spent anywhere

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: The activation fee for the Visa card would dilute any potential benefit you gained from the discounts, though. I think it would be a lot of work to achieve any real gain.

            • @[Deactivated]: As far as I am aware, none of the participating retailers on the list (or for the Him gift card) sell prepaid Mastercard or Visa gift cards either. JB Hi-Fi definitely does not sell them.

The last ebay gift card deal with 2k bonus FlyBuys bonus points I did use Prezzee to swap to a Coles gift card to pay at a self-checkout no problem. Similarly, I also swapped the ShopBack Super Swap card to Coles to pay as well.

  • can an adult use it, or just for kids?

    • Yes anybody can use it, but alot of the shops on it are for kids

    • +2

Only if they're a big kid.

I have stocked enough JB cards, having a break next week.

      don't. quitters are for losers.

remember, "If you quit on the process, you are quitting on the result."

  • Can you get $100 card like in Woolworths deal? Thinking it would be better to get jb to scan less cards at checkout

    • No.

Physical TCN Kids gift cards are only available in $30 and $50 denominations.

  • AFL instead of NRL card available in Victoria.

  • Is it specifically the $50 gift cards that are discounted? If I wanted to get $100 Google Play Store credit will I need to buy two $50 gift cards?

    • +1

Nope, all Google Play gift card denominations (excluding the variable load gift card) are discounted by 10% at Coles. You can check this by scanning a $100 gift card at a checkout.

Btw, if you want to try your luck, you can go to Officeworks and ask them to price beat this deal on Google Play gift cards, which would mean you would get a 14.5% discount on Google Play gift cards. Make sure you have a copy of the digital or physical catalogue with you, so Officeworks staff know what offer you’re referring to.

  • how long it will take to activate for kids gift card?

    • It should be instant, or worse case scenario, within 48 hours.

  • thanks got $1050 worth cards thru 5 transactions

  • Can these cards be consolidated and swapped to get one high value gift card for JB Hi-Fi?

    • +1
      • You cannot consolidate multiple TCN gift cards into one TCN gift card through the TCN gift card website.

      • If you redeem TCN gift cards for digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards through the TCN website, you cannot consolidate the digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards into one JB Hi-Fi gift card in-store or online at JB Hi-Fi, as JB Hi-Fi stopped allowing that about a year ago.

      • However, if you purchased an item at JB Hi-Fi using multiple JB Hi-Fi gift cards and you returned the item, the amount spend on the JB Hi-Fi gift cards will usually be returned to you on one JB Hi-Fi. Having said that, I’ve heard of cases on this site where OzBargainers’ funds were returned to you as store credit.

Why do you want the TCN gift cards to be consolidated onto one JB Hi-Fi gift card? There’s no limit to the number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards you can redeem on the JB Hi-Fi website, and there’s currently no limit to the number of TCN gift cards you can redeem in one transaction at JB Hi-Fi.

      • Thank you! I’m looking to buy the iPhone 13 and if I can secure enough of these TCN cards, will end up with almost 26 gift cards and I just was apprehensive of having to use that many. But your last sentence has me feel better. Thank you very much for your comprehensive reply.

        • +2

          No worries!

If you were wondering, one OzBargainer redeemed 81 TCN/Ultimate gift cards in one transaction late last year, so I think you’ll be fine with 26 gift cards!

Just make sure you “prepare” the cards beforehand by scratching to reveal PINs, and try to go to JB Hi-Fi during a quieter time, as you can imagine it takes a few minutes to redeem 26 gift cards!

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Yep, and be nice/considerate about it. If you have the right attitude, the staff won't really mind, and everyone will be happy. I bought my MacBook Pro 14" ($3500) with a mix of $100 and $50 gift cards before.

  • I scanned a $30 KIDS gift card yesterday at Coles, Top Ryde. Didn’t get any 10% discount. Must have run out of stock?

    • As far as I can tell, the deal is still ongoing. Coles has not issued an apology or update to the catalogue to say the deal is prematurely over, and the $30 TCN Kids gift card is not listed as an exclusion.

Did you scan a TCN Kids gift card or an Ultimate Kids gift card?

      • A TCN $30 gift card it was.

  • Go Officeworks and Price beat for further 5% off.

    • Do they also sell TCN Kids gift cards? Didn't see them online.

      • Officeworks don't sell TCN gift cards.

The commenter is most likely referring to Google Play gift cards.

  • Scanned $30 TCN KIDS gift card at Coles Broadway (NSW) last night and got the 10% off. Bought two, and was also using my Fly Buys $10 off (see para below though), plus paying with a gift card (which worked).

… however, after I paid for the two gift cards (alongside my shopping) in two separate transactions, and put them in a bag (with groceries), I started on my third transaction wth the rest of my groceries (as I split my shopping into multiple transactions to get the Fly Buys $10 off for 2000 points a few times), a staff member came up and started shouting at me that it wasn't permitted and she demanded I give back the gift cards I had previously bought and said "WHERE ARE THEY? WHERE ARE THE GIFT CARDS?". I said "what? I have already paid in previous transaction and have a receipt" but she ignored me, pushed me aside, and started rummaging through my Coles shopping bags in the trolley (the bags of stuff I had already bought/paid for) until she found the gift cards and pulled them out and wouldn't give them back to me. She demanded I produce the receipts so she could cancel and refund the transactions. I asked her to bring her manager over and ultimately it was concluded since I had already paid and it was in my bag, it did not need to be refunded/cancelled but I couldn't buy anymore (I had bought 2 $30 gift cards).

The same staff member (who when she came over to self serve checkout as she had to scan her staff card since it was a gift card purchase) also prevented me from using the Fly Buys $10 off by pushing me aside and wouldn't let me tap "Accept" when the prompt came up asking me if I wanted to redeem since this wasn't permitted.

I appreciate the using gift cards to buy gift cards was always grey (although some machines let you do it), I am still speechless at the staff member's attitude towards me with the pushing/shoving/rummaging through my bags/shouting. Never had that happen to me before.
