20x or 2000 Points? The catalogue says 2000 Points with any card pictured instead of 20x points.

Might be 2000 Points with $50 card purchase potentially based on the picture and terms (2000 Points for any denomination pictured).

    • That may be the case, but Woolworths almost always scale their bonus points so that you only get 1000 points for the $50 denominations of Ultimate gift card. I agree the wording is rather ambiguous this time around.

I’ll update the deal if it actually turns out that you get 2000 points for $50 denominations.

  • hey, can i use this offer to get apple gift card or get jb card to get apple card from jb?
i just missed this deal :https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/676806

Yes, you can use Ultimate Home gift cards to purchase Apple gift cards at JB Hi-Fi.

When you’re at JB Hi-Fi, tell the staff you’d like to pay by card, not gift card. JB Hi-Fi treats Ultimate (and TCN) gift cards as Visa/EFTPOS cards, not JB Hi-Fi gift cards.

      • +1

        thanks

      • That what I was planning to do, but how can I say that I'm paying with VISA/eftpos and then proceeding of using 7 ultimate home card to pay?

EDIT: looks like you can exchange them into egift card on the ultimate website. Maybe you can join multiple gift card in one single one?

        • +1

how can I say that I'm paying with VISA/eftpos and then proceeding of using 7 ultimate home card to pay?

You tell the staff that you’d like to do split payments and pay with multiple cards, or that you’d like to pay with multiple cards. They should understand what you mean.

looks like you can exchange them into egift card on the ultimate website. Maybe you can join multiple gift card in one single one?

          Nope.

          • You cannot consolidate multiple Ultimate gift cards into one Ultimate gift card through the Ultimate gift card website.

          • You also cannot currently exchange Ultimate gift cards for JB Hi-Fi gift cards through the Ultimate gift card website. It was previously possible to do that, but JB Hi-Fi disappeared from the exchange facility in late Nov 2021.

          • You also cannot consolidate multiple JB Hi-Fi gift cards into one JB Hi-Fi gift card in-store or online at JB Hi-Fi, as JB Hi-Fi stopped allowing that about a year ago.

      • Will this work for JB gift cards aswell?

        • +1

It depends on whether staff (or JB Hi-Fi’s website) will let you do that.

JB Hi-Fi’s head office issued a memo to all stores at the end of 2020 telling staff to not allow customers to purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards using TCN or Ultimate gift cards. However, there is nothing in the JB Hi-Fi sales system in their stores to automatically block you from purchasing a JB Hi-Fi gift card using TCN or Ultimate gift cards.

I asked JB Hi-Fi staff at different stores in late 2020 and a couple of weeks ago whether it is possible to purchase JB Hi-Fi gift cards using TCN or Ultimate gift cards, and they said a firm no. However, other OzBargainers have recently reported that they’ve had staff let them use one or multiple TCN or Ultimate gift cards to pay for JB Hi-Fi gift cards, so YMMV.

As I see it, there’s two approaches you can take if you’re heading in-store and have TCN or Ultimate gift cards:

          • You can be subtle and only purchase one JB Hi-Fi gift card using one TCN or Ultimate gift card, and try to avoid suspicions of staff by trying to conceal the TCN or Ultimate gift card when you go to swipe it on the EFTPOS terminal or adding it to Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay. (Don’t mention gift cards, as JB Hi-Fi treats TCN or Ultimate gift cards as cards, not gift cards.)

          • You can be less subtle and tell staff at the counter that you’d like to pay for a JB Hi-Fi gift card using multiple cards. (Don’t mention gift cards, as JB Hi-Fi treats TCN or Ultimate gift cards as cards, not gift cards.) If staff are going to question what sort of cards you’d like to use (which is likely, because it’s not everyday you have someone asking to use multiple cards to pay for a gift card), you could either lie and say you’re using multiple bank cards, or you could be a bit more brash and be honest and say you’d like to use multiple TCN or Ultimate gift cards. I’ll leave it up to you to decide which approach better suits you.

If you get your hands on the Visa version of the Ultimate gift cards (which you most likely will), you could try your hand at purchasing a physical or digital JB Hi-Fi gift card through the JB Hi-Fi website. You’ll need to keep in mind that you can only use one Ultimate gift card at a time on the JB Hi-Fi website.

          You have two options:

          • You can try paying for the gift card by entering the Ultimate gift card’s card number, expiry date (12/29) and CVV2 directly into the JB Hi-Fi online checkout. However, many OzBargainers tried this in Dec 2021 and had mixed success: some had their first order cancelled after the funds were redeemed from the gift card, whereas others had their second or third orders cancelled. Basically, if you can successfully order one gift card, you’ll probably only be able to order two or three gift cards in one day.

          • You can try paying for the gift card by adding the Ultimate gift card to Apple Pay first and then using Apple Pay at the JB Hi-Fi online checkout. Some OzBargainers tried this as an alternative, and even though they had a bit more luck, it seemed like no one could order more than two or three gift cards in one day.

It sounds like either JB Hi-Fi is manually reviewing orders of JB Hi-Fi gift cards on their website, or their fraud detection systems kick in after you try purchasing multiple JB Hi-Fi gift cards across multiple transactions in one day, so YMMV and you may need some patience if you try to go down this route and have a stack of Ultimate gift cards you want to convert.

    30 or nothing

  • +2

Says 2,000 bonus points for a $100 gift card. You can purchase up to a limit of 10 gift cards per everyday rewards account.

  • No student? Need restock some eb card. But 10% happens every couple weeks. Wait for 15%

  • So this is the 'cash' equivalent of 10% off gift cards?

    • You’ll have 10% of the gift card’s value returned to you in the form of Everyday Rewards points (assuming you’re not converting your Everyday Rewards points to Qantas points).

I’ll add this to the deal description.

Have a read through that, either convert your points to quantas or spend it straight away.

    • Interesting- first Coles Gift Master Card, now EDR. Thanks for the PSA.

  • Can i use the JB gift cards online??

Or better yet - how do i use the home gift cards/eft cards online?

    • +2

If you purchase the Visa version of the Ultimate Home gift card, yes. However, JB Hi-Fi treats this as a Visa card (not a JB Hi-Fi gift card), so you cannot use it in conjunction of a debit/credit/prepaid card. You could try to get around this by purchasing a JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website using the Ultimate Home gift card, but there’s a chance that JB Hi-Fi will either automatically block you from doing so, or manually cancel your order and return the funds onto your Ultimate Home gift card.

If you purchase the EFTPOS version of the Ultimate Home gift card, no. Blackhawk Network does not offer an exchange facility for the EFTPOS version, so you must spend the funds on the gift cards in-person in-store. The EFTPOS versions were being phased out late last year in favour of the newer Visa versions, but your local store may still have stock of the EFTPOS versions.

      • whats the alternative if the product you want is online only?

PS: Thank you for your detailed response

        • +1

The alternative is that you walk into a JB Hi-Fi store and use Ultimate gift cards to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card. This is not officially allowed by JB Hi-Fi, but JB Hi-Fi’s sales system will not automatically block you from doing this, and there’s a chance you’ll be served by a staff member who is not aware of this rule. If you tell the staff member that you want to pay by card, they may not realise you’re wanting to use Ultimate gift cards. YMMV, so you may want to be discreet about this.

I will add that JB Hi-Fi used to be on the gift card exchange facility on the Ultimate gift card website, but they were removed from the exchange facility just before the 15% off Ultimate gift card at Coles late last year.

          • @WookieMonster: You sir/madam are a genius

Would it be dodge walking in with 10-20 ultimate gift cards to change over?

Can you use more then one gift card online?

            • +1

@flashi007: Oops, I just realised you made this comment.

Would it be dodge walking in with 10-20 ultimate gift cards to change over?

If you walked in with 10-20 Ultimate gift cards in order to purchase multiple $500 JB Hi-Fi gift cards at the same time, it would be very dodgy and staff would probably say no.

If you walked in to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using one Ultimate gift card, staff may not care.

If you walked in to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using multiple Ultimate gift cards, staff may care.

If you walked in with 10-20 Ultimate gift cards to purchase that TV you want, they wouldn’t really care.

Can you use more then one gift card online?

You can only redeem one Ultimate gift card per transaction (in conjunction with as many JB Hi-Fi gift cards as you want) on JB Hi-Fi’s website.

  • I see you can add the card to your apple wallet. does that mean i can load up my wallet and use apple pay on the jb website and buy the tv i am after?

    • I think they just appear in Wallet, like certificates and movie tickets, but not available as a form of Apple Pay payment.

      • thanks

Sounds like its too hard for me to use multiple cards online for a purchase

    • +1

The Visa version of the Ultimate gift card is the only version of the Ultimate Home gift card that you can add to Apple Pay. Apple Pay treats this as a Visa card, so you’ll only be able to spend one Ultimate Home gift card per online transaction.

If you want to get around this, you’ll need to convert an Ultimate Home gift card into a JB Hi-Fi gift card.

      • It may be possible to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website using the card number, expiry date and CVV2 from the Ultimate gift card. However, there’s a good chance JB Hi-Fi will manually cancel the order.

      • It may be possible to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card on the JB Hi-Fi website via Apple Pay. However, there’s a chance JB Hi-Fi will manually cancel the order.

      • You can go into a JB Hi-Fi store and purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card using Ultimate gift cards (whether it is via the physical card or Apple/Google/Samsung Pay). However, if staff notice you are using Ultimate gift cards as a payment method, they may stop you.

  • +1

    So it's basically 10% discount?

    $100 gift card = 2,000 reward points = $10 shopping credit.

    • +2

No it is 9.09% because you have to spend $110 to use that $10 bonus.

      • +1

Good point, those marketing people are tricky clever aren't they? :D

  • Max 10 per day? Is that per store? 😂

I assume people driving around to buy 4-5k worth for when they want something from JB.

How do you get sale items, before they sell out if you have to pay in-store? I assume you can't pay online.

It seems like so much effort, but I spose worth it if you save $300-400 extra

    • +1

Yeah, some people are so dedicated that they amass 81 TCN/Ultimate gift cards and save a little over $1000 thanks to these gift cards. I guess it depends on how far you want to take it to save money.

You can use one Ultimate (Visa) gift card per online transaction at JB Hi-Fi, unless you convert them to JB Hi-Fi gift cards first (which isn’t exactly straightforward, but it is possible).

      • +1

How long did it take them to get 81 cards? My OT pays $70 an hour.

Based on driving around, hours wasted including processing the item it may be cheaper to work an extra day.

    • +1

They are giving you back in reward points, which means they can easily implement a system limit from their end, so don't count on multiple stores unless you are absolutely sure. Otherwise all the running arounds are just for nothing.

Also buying big ticket items using gift cards (instead of paying in full using eligible credit card), you lose out on points and "perceived" purchase protections/insurance.

      • Good point, esp CC with price protection.

    • I bought 20 via the self check in 2 transactions one after the other worked fine. $50 credit showed immediately on my first receipt and $100 credit shows on my 2nd receipt. Assistant is needed at the end of each lot of purchases to validate the transaction. it takes a while for all the cards to be activated by the self check, but once done you get a receipt for each card and a combined receipt.

  • Hi guys just letting you know I went to Coles yesterday and they have 10% off all ultimate cards, don't know when it ends, may save you hassle saving 10% credit in ER, cheers

    • Mmm, is it SA specific? 10% cash is definitely better value than points.

      • well not sure if SA specific but I'm in SA so could be the case

  • Bit late now, but the TEEN and HER giftcards are 10% off at Woolworths, but ends today. They have the JB Hi-Fi logo on them.

    • Sorry, these were for TCN. Woolies has ended by Coles has started. 10% TEEN card, which has the JB Hi-Fi logo on it.

  • i bought $250 worth of ultimate him cards this morning - checkout gave me a notification $30 had been added to my ER for a future shop so seems slightly better than 10% of the value?

    • Did you buy 2x $100 and 1x $50?

On your account, does it show 6000 Bonus Points being earned for the transaction? Or 5000?

  • +1

I bought $500 ($100 x5) worth of "him" gift card. Got 10,000 ($50) points. I have first checked the points for $50 "him" gift card. I could only get 1000 points not 2000 therefore decided to go with $100 gift card.

Op is correct. You can get 20x Everyday Rewards Points.

    • I had a suspicion that Woolworths intended you to only earn 1000 bonus points on the $50 denominations. However, with the way in which the catalogue is currently written, they have accidentally stated that you’ll 2000 bonus points with any denomination of the listed gift cards. You could purchase a $50 Ultimate gift card in the deal, then contact Everyday Rewards team and complain that you’re missing 1000 bonus points. I’ll leave it up to people if they want to go through those hoops for 1000 bonus points. (I probably wouldn’t, tbh.)

Also, Woolworths are definitely no strangers to stuffing up a gift card promotion. In another deal a couple of months ago, Woolworths advertised a 10x bonus points for the OnlyONE Visa gift cards, but they forgot to list the variable load gift card as an exclusion in the catalogue. I received no points after waiting 14 business days, and it was a bloody ordeal to chase up Everyday Rewards and get my 5080 bonus points…

      • I think this is the exclusion for this respect?

"Standard points will not be earned on amount spent on gift cards, but the relevant number of bonus points which you qualify for under this offer"

  • I can confirm $50 card gives 1k points but advert says 2k points for all denominations. Sneaky :o

  • Could I use 10x$50 home gift cards to purchase something online from JB Hi-Fi? Or only in store if I want to use multiple cards to purchase one item? TIA

    • +1

It depends on the type of Ultimate Home gift cards you have.

If you have the older EFTPOS versions of the Ultimate Home gift card, you have to go in-store to either:

      • Buy the item you want, or

      • Buy JB Hi-Fi gift cards so that you can buy the item you want either in-store or online. However, with this second option, there is a high chance that JB Hi-Fi staff will refuse to let you do this if they realise you’re using Ultimate gift cards as a payment method, because JB Hi-Fi’s head office issued a memo to all stores in late 2020 to have them stop customers using Ultimate or TCN gift cards to pay for JB Hi-Fi gift cards. Having said that, there is nothing in the JB Hi-Fi sales systems to automatically stop you from doing this, and you may come across a staff member who is not aware of this restriction (or does not care about it), so YMMV.

If you have the newer Visa versions of the Ultimate Home gift card, you have some options:

      • You can go in-store to buy the item you want,

      • You can go in-store to buy JB Hi-Fi gift cards (and same caveat as before applies),

      • You can attempt to use Ultimate gift cards to purchase physical or digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards through the JB Hi-Fi website. However, if buying one JB Hi-Fi gift card works for you, other OzBargainers’ experience indicates that you’d only be able to purchase 2 or 3 in a day, as the chances of JB Hi-Fi cancelling orders will dramatically go up at this point. No one is quite sure whether JB Hi-Fi manually reviews orders and cancels them, or JB Hi-Fi’s online sales system is programmed to cancel multiple purchases being made by the same person in a short period of time, or some combination of both. You’ll probably have more success adding the Visa card to Apple Pay and using Apple Pay as a payment method at the checkout, rather than directly adding the Visa card number, expiry date1 and CVV2 details in the checkout.

      1. The expiry date you use for online purchases is 12/29. I have no idea why this is not printed on the cards…

      • Thanks for the detailed information.

Just confirming there is no extra charges by using either the EFTPOS or VISA version of the Ultimate Home Gift card?

        • +1

If a participating merchant applies a surcharges for all payments from EFTPOS cards or Visa cards, you’ll have to pay that surcharge when using an Ultimate Home gift card. However, I had a quick look at the participating merchants, and I don’t think any of them apply a surcharge for EFTPOS or Visa payments.

  • How do you apply the $100 from the Ultimate gift for Him GC to an existing Kayo account? Thanks

    • +1

If you want to use the Ultimate Him gift card with Kayo, you must exchange part or all of the balance of the Ultimate Him gift card through the Ultimate gift card exchange facility for a Kayo gift card.1

Once you receive your Kayo gift card, you'll need to add it to the Kayo account. (You can read more about it here.)

      1. The expiry date you use for online purchases and the exchange facility is 12/29

      • Which card can we redeem for, other than Kayo?

        • +1

I’ve included a table of participating retailers in the description. If you click the link for the (Visa) gift card in the table, it will take you to the Ultimate gift card website and show you which retailers will accept it in-store or online, and which retailers are participating in the gift card exchange facility.

      • +1

        THANKS!

        • I forgot to mention that you can only use the Ultimate Him gift card with Kayo if it is the Visa version. I went to a Woolworths a couple of weeks ago and saw a mixture of the EFTPOS version and the Visa version, so make sure you get the correct type of gift card!

          • @WookieMonster: How did you become so knowledgeable about these cards?

            • @flashi007:

              • Trial and error from personal experience: I have used around 10 of the Ultimate EFTPOS and Visa gift cards over the last couple of years, so I know first-hand how they should work.

              • Absorbing information from other OzBargainers: a lot of OzBargainers post information about their experiences of using these gift cards (particularly when these cards are being sold at 15% off and everyone and their dog are scrambling to find the cards that can be used at JB Hi-Fi), so I tend to make mental notes of what people have said.

              • @WookieMonster: How can you tell if you get a Visa card or non Visa card

                • @flashi007: Card number:

                  • The EFTPOS gift card number starts with 502125.
                  • The Visa gift card number starts with 457824.

                  Participating retailers:

                  • The EFTPOS gift card has the participating retailers printed on the physical gift card itself.
                  • The Visa gift card only has the participating retailers printed on the cardboard sleeve. The physical gift card itself has a QR code on the bottom right-hand corner of the front of the gift card with the text where to use above it.

                  Gift card background colours:

                  • The EFTPOS gift card has a white background on the front.
                  • The Visa gift card has a coloured background on the front, which matches the predominant colour on the cardboard sleeve.

                  Packaging:

                  • The EFTPOS gift card sits on top of the cardboard sleeve.
                  • The Visa gift card is hidden inside the cardboard.
                  • In this example of the ACTIVE gift card, the EFTPOS gift card is on the left, and the Visa gift card is on the right.
  • @WookieMonster Can I use JB Hi Fi giftcard in-store to buy Apple Gift Card?

    • JB Hi-Fi’s sales systems should let you use a JB Hi-Fi gift card to purchase third-party gift cards (e.g. Apple, Steam, PlayStation, Xbox). If you’re in a JB Hi-Fi store, it is at the discretion of staff, but most staff will let you do this.

      • +1

        @WookieMonster: Thanks!
