  • Anyone have any experience with cloth nappies and particular brands? Expecting my first baby and don't want to use disposables.

      Yes.
      We wanted to try them.
      We bought from Aldi.
We were super keen on being environmentally friendly.

      Below is what we experienced
-new born uses so many nappies it’s hard to just use reusable nappies alone (unless you buy a bucket load-which cab outweigh disposable costs).
-using the nappies themselves isn’t super effective. We opted for the added inserts and a poop layers. (Poop layers saves on washing)
-our child is now 9 months old:
—we still find disposables better for overnight. Otherwise our child would wake more. More that the current 3 times a night now.
-harder to change Bub overnight with reusables (we tried. Trust me)
-usually start the day in reusables, but if going out fir long periods or sending to daycare then not as practical (daycare won’t use the reusable ones and use their own stock of disposable nappies)

      Washing:
Yes you will need a decent supply to counteract the wash days.
We bought 8 pair to try and this was not nearly enough.
Sadly.. although we really wanted to not create landfill, it because too much for us.

      You might do better.
We still use a combo where we can.

Whether you choose this product or the cheaper cloth nappies at K-Mart or the like, reusable nappies are a much better environmental and financial alternative to disposable nappies.
I've read that 2 billion disposable nappies go into landfill in Australia every year, 4% of our landfill is comprised of disposable nappies and they can take up to 500 years to decompose (plastic components). What an environmental disaster that is.
The website babybeehinds.com.au estimates that disposable nappies will cost $3,250 per child, so choosing reusable nappies is one of the great Ozbargain choices you can make.
All our 4 kids were in traditional cloth nappies (much cheaper than these modern ones). We even used cloth nappies when bush camping around Oz.
Years ago 100% of families used cloth nappies. Now very few do.
Reusable nappies are a big financial win for families and a big win for the environment.
My first grandchild was born recently and I bought my daughter several packs of reusable nappies. She’s very pleased to be saving so much money as well as helping the environment.
