  • Is the motherboard proprietors with Alienware? What are the cases like for future changes?

Any help would be appreciated from someone’s previous knowledge or experience

    • +5

Motherboard and PSU are proprietary. But this case has decent ventilation compared to previous r10-12. You can build this system for around the same price without having to deal with the restrictions. The XPS i9 was a great deal only because it was so cheap.

I guess who bought the ugly ass xps a few day ago would be canceling theirs and buy this???

    • +4

This has been available through the same promotion. Nowhere near as good a deal. The XPS was an i9-12900k, 32GB DDR5 RAM, 1TB gen 4.0 SSD, pcie 5.0 ready motherboard and an rtx 3080 for $3149. That system would cost you $4500 if you were to build it.

      • But the chassis looks $50 no rgb

        • +1

Yeah it's a camouflaged gaming system that looks at home in an office 😁

        • +2

Do you stare at your case when you're using the computer?

          Found the RGB sucker.

        • It comes with clear side panel, definitely has RGB inside.

          • +2

@kaikor: No he's referring to the XPS in another deal.

            • @[Deactivated]: Oh Sorry, thx for pointing that out. But is it worth to pay extra $350 from XPS to Aurora?

              • @kaikor: The XPS deal we are referring to was a $5500 system down to $3149. Just the CPU and 3080 was worth nearly $3000 so you would have got everything else for just $149. To build it, it would be $4500-$4700 so it was much better than this Aurora system.

                • @[Deactivated]: That xps is ugly as hell, with air cooling. Ok I don’t stare at the case but neither want it anywhere around me. And it is oos.

              • @kaikor: Xps is oos, it is a good ‘historical’ deal may or may not reoccur

      • Wonder how thermal throttled that system would be?

        • +2

I'm guessing you are asking about the XPS.

Quite a bit on the water cooled version. Apparently, these ones have the premium air coolers which are better but I expect it would still throttle in heavy CPU usage activities. But Intel has removed the high performance limit on this CPU so I would imagine it will throttle at some point using most coolers. That is, instead of the normally limit of a couple of minutes at the highest performance level, this CPU is designed to keep going as long as the cooling enables it. I imagine this is to benchmark better in tests. The CPU scores around 27000 in C23 with a decent cooler and 22000 on the water cooler it normally comes with. for comparison the average 5900x does around 20000. I imagine it might be be a bit higher with the air cooler. So, it would be worth changing to a better cooler if using mainly for CPU heavy work. Makes no difference in gaming and general tasks.

      • I believe the reduced the price on this yesterday, which made it more appealing than earlier on in sale.

        • Are you referring to this Aurora or the XPS we have been talking about?

          • @[Deactivated]: The Aurora.

            • @Testeagle: Thanks for clarifying. Probably because it hasn't sold well. It will likely get a bigger discount during the next promotion.

  • Is there any reviews for this unit with the liquid cooling? Keen to see level of throttling.

Ew, 2017 wants its 512gb NVMe SSD back.

Even my PS5 has a bigger SSD.

    • I think 512GB boot storage is more than sufficient.

    • I agree. When I built a system in 2013 I put a 512gb SSD in it. Dell is very stingy and deceptive by putting a 1TB HD that is useless on a powerful system like this.

      • -2

How exactly is it useless lol. Plenty of games that aren't bottlenecked by a 7200rpm HDD

        • I don't know if any game that's bottleneck on a PC on a hard drive but waiting 5mintues for RDR2 to load is a waste of time. Time is money. I'm sure you've heard of that. It will become much more valuable as you get older. You are still very young I'm guessing.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Lmao no, not young. Condescending comments on ozbargain though.. Classy bro. Real classy.

Just because a piece of tech doesn't suit your wants, doesn't make it useless. Enough elitist bullshit thanks.

            • -1

@Dvbargain: I'm not being condescending. I'm stating a fact. I'm not an elitist mate. You don't know me. Making a generalisation that sweeping is unfair. my point is If you are playing RDR2 for a couple of hours and spent 15 minutes of that waiting for levels to load. That's not a great fit for a $3500 system. That's why I think it's useless.

PS. I doubt elitists hang around ozbargain hoping for a deal. 🙂

              • @[Deactivated]: You… Are very funny.

                But I'm 12 what do I know. 🤔🤣🤣

It's not a great fit for the system, it's also not "useless", but half of what you've said is

                • -2

@Dvbargain: You definitely act and converse like you are 12 so well done for acting your age.

                  • -1

@[Deactivated]: Yeah because your spelling and grammar is essay quality. If you were writing an essay with a head injury.

                    • -2

@Dvbargain: Look who turned out to be the elitist 😂😂😂

Go to sleep junior. You are too young for this.

                      • @[Deactivated]: Sorry your message is still loading on my mechanical HDD.. I'll respond in 6 days when it loads

Edit: Got called junior on the internet, do I win a badge for that? Am I in with the cool kids now? Is the word Yeet still a thing?

                        • @Dvbargain: Listen, I tell you what, you respond to this final comment from me and I promise I won't respond so you can feel like you've achieved something for the day. I can see how badly you need this win. Otherwise you might not be able to sleep. Go on junior. One more for the win. You can do it. Take your best shot. I'll make you have the last word. Go for it.

      • 1tb hdd isn't useless, you can still store games on it. 3tb HDD would be better value for money but I guess they gotta cut corners somewhere. In my desktop PC I have a 1tb nvme, 512gb nvme, 500gb SATA SSD, 3tb hdd, 6tb hdd, 4tb hdd.

Most of the hdd are used for games too as even 500gb SSD only holds like 4-5 AAA games since they have gotten so massive.

    • Can you add in another ssd yourself or would that void warranty?

      • Yes you can. It has an extra nvme slot and two data bays.

  • Can I mine ETH with one of these?

    • Yes but it is LHR version so hashrate will be 70-74mh with 75% LHR unlock.
