Shame that the base game is no longer available for ~$30 as it was the last couple of days from Amazon UK; could've paired the two up for free shipping. In any case, this is an essential expansion.

    This or Agora or both?

    • Damn, I didn't know about the Agora expansion!

    • +1

This. I haven't played Agora but I've heard a lot of mixed things about it.

    • From what I have heard Pantheon seems to be the essential expansion.

I played a bit of Agora on board game arena online and did not really like the changes it made to the entire game.

You can try it over at board game arena website to play 7 Wonders Duel with Agora expansion for free but it wasn't for me.

  • Is this easy to pick up and play? Never played these types of card games before. I was thinking it would be a nice change from ticket to ride and other board games.

there's a bit of iconography to wrap your head around at first and a few bits and pieces in the rules that can seem somewhat arbitrary (as in not so closely tied to the theme to be obvious, and hence somewhat more difficult to remember), but most people will pickup what's going on well before the end of the first game.

its definitely got a nice little engine-building feel for a relatively short game.

Like I said above, this was the first proper game I owned (outside of chess, checkers etc), and even then my wife and I got the hang of it after a few plays.

It is a bit confusing at the start, but it becomes easier to understand as you play. There are at least 3 ways you can win in this game and every time you pick one, you let the opponent pick from the other 2 which makes it interesting. Definitely worth a purchase for 2 players! You can also test it out using this online version https://sevenee.mattle.online/

  • On the fence about this one
Doesn't seem to offer a lot of content for the price
Of course by the time I decide to buy it the price would rise ☺️

    • +1

As far as expansions go, the amount of content is on par for the price, imo. The best thing about Pantheon is that it makes the game less linear: In the original you could see well in advance that your opponent would get a particular card to your detriment or even loss, and there was nothing you could do about it; Pantheon gives more options and chances to upset the turn order and/or your opponent.

  • I seem to be one of the few who prefer the original 7 wonders to the duel version.. it is a great game

I have both versions of the game, bought both because they are so highly rated; never could get over the steep learning curve so it rarely if ever gets brought out

Will have to wait until the kids are older to try it again ☺️

      • +1

tbh i woudn't say its a steep learning curve, but like a few different games in this genre, takes a bit to read through the instructions and mechanics. Once you do though (or watch a youtube setup vid), its a pretty easy game and one thats harder to master. Agree though that prob not one for little kids though!.. You can also test it out online too.
