      Lol scalper…

    • Death to scalpers…

    • Where are you located?

    • Try Gumtree mate

    • PM me shaoyangdl

      You aren't accepting new conversations

    • Pathetic scalper. FO

  • The case ..

  • damm missed it :(

  • +1

I ended up changing my original order to include
3 Yr Warranty/Premium Support for $105 - 20% .. (current promotion is doing it for the same price as the 2 year warranty)
Change the case colour to the Mineral White for $44 - 20%

It looks like they might still do this offer even though it is out of stock, suggest contacting Dell eBay if you still want it.

    • Did you contact them to make the changes?

      I just wrote to them.

    • I didn't think you could get the white one? (profanity)

    • How did you contact rhem? When I go to message it says that dell isn't the seller of the item even though I believe they are

    • No

The 3060ti one is a better deal if it fits your budget.

        • +1

Yep. If you are a 1080p or 1440p gamer that will do great job. A 3060ti is still around $1000 so it's a reasonable buy if you don't want to build your own. You can get cheaper with an older CPU from techfast or one of the other retailers on here but those systems won't beat this processor. It's more future proofed.

  • If you are looking to buy just message dell eBay directly. I was told first-come basis with at least 1 month lead time.
Was gotta buy it but i really want to change the casing :(
They will do the listing for you.

    • +1

Damn I messaged them earlier today, got a message back around 2:40pm ish saying they’re completely out of stock, back order not possible :(

    • Wow Triplenet - you did well to get that.

I had the same experience as lliw - Dell told me they were sold out and weren't going to restock this on the EBAY store at all.

I had actually messaged them when it was for sale and in stock, asking them to add extended warranty.

They pulled the item from sale before i could purchase and before they replied :(

  • code expired today

  • For those of you who bought one I can confirm it has the premium air cooler.

Without changing anything, stock system, initially jumps to full throttle on Cinebench 23 with all fans on high but after about 20 seconds settles to 125w power, a reasonable fan setting (guessing around 40 decibels) and around 3.6GHz, core temperatures of between 65-75 degrees Celsius. It scored 22297. That beats 5900x even at this load but leaves performance on the table. I might change the fans cooler at some point in the future if I need more juice out of the rig but as it is it performs well.

    • So you already got the machine you purchased in this deal?

      • +1

        That's correct. Arrived this morning.

    • Thanks for your information, I contacted the Dell eBay store too and mine still hasn't been under production yet, they gave me an order number which I can track on Dell and it says the estimated shipping date is 9th Feb and the estimated arrival date is 17th Feb.

      • No problem. I was told 17th too but arrived early.

A bit more information. There's a new bios 1.0.10. I updated but felt there was more noise so I reverted back to 1.0.8. I think the update only fixes a problem with the game pubg and I don't play that so it doesn't bother me. The ambient sound is about 26-27 decibels according to an app I use on my phone. I think most of that is from the PSU. That's where the sound seems to be coming from. It's very close to the GPU but at idle I'm assuming the GPU fans would be off.

I played Horizon Zero Dawn on full graphics and the fans definitely kick in. I'd say around 55 decibels. But with headphones it was not noticeable. I didn't measure the fps but the game ran perfectly.

I also had the system on for about 5 hours straight to transfer my files, updating and installing etc and everything was stable. Updating the bios is also very easy and automated by the Dell software. Probably the easiest bios update I've ever done. Double click the relevant file and the software automatically boots into the bios, updates and restarts as required until it's all done then boots into windows.

A few things to note which were nice surprises:

    1. The GPU is an MSI reported as 1710 MHz but benchmarking revealed that during gaming it jumps up to as high as 1920Mhz and mostly around 1850 MHz. So it's on par with top of the range 3080s on the market. It has never gone over 72 degrees with all the benchmarks I've put it through.

    2. The case cooling is decent. Initially when using Turbo Boost Short Max at the full 241w TDP the fans jump to full throttle and get very noisy. I fixed this issue with Intel's overclocking software by reducing TBSM to 200w, which gives around 4.9GHz (lower than the 5.2 GHz) boost, but it's pretty much never needed, but when utilised the noise is about half as loud. Otherwise it runs at 27-30 decibels 95% of the time.

    • Interested to know which waterblock would fit the card?

      • Apparently the AIO is asetek so the NZXT and other asetek designed blocks should fit.

        • Sorry, should've been more clear. I was referring to the PCB itself and to run a custom water loop to it. If it's MSI would that mean it shares the same PCB as the Gaming Z Trio or maybe the Ventus. Guess we will find out, hopefully mine arrives soon.

          • @JustinFR: The GPU is not very loud at all and at full load reaches 72 degrees celcius and 1920MHz (mostly around 1850). In terms of overclocking you might get even higher speeds but that won't affect the performance much because of the way the memory on these cards is optimised. But if you still wanted to do that may be a very tight fit in that case.

  • Mine was shipped yesterday! Hopefully will arrive by Friday.

  • I was happy to pay the slight scalper markup on a unit.

Received today, up and running. Pretty happy so far.

    • If you have any questions fire away. I've been mucking around with it for a couple of weeks now.

      • Kind of strange it doesn't come with any form of HDD.

Did you add a second SSD or did you put in a HDD?

        • +1

I added a WD SN850 1TB. 2TB is sufficient for me but you can add another two HDD.

      • I also found it kinda quaint that is has an optical drive!

So inside, have they installed 1, 2 or 3 chassis fans?

If found this service manual which could be useful for reference:

        https://dl.dell.com/content/manual30492141-xps-8950-service-…

        • +1

It's a productivity and creators system. The optical drive can come in handy for people who may have created large backups and data storage on DVDs. But it is a little unusual.

It come with two chassis fans. One at the front and one at the back. They do a good job. The CPU reaches around 70 degrees celcius at 200w and 4.8-5.0GHz and the GPU on full load also reaches around the same temperature.

          • @[Deactivated]: Thanks for the info.

My first impressions are that it is better than I thought it would be. It's cooling seems superior to my 11th gen Intel Alienware

I will throw a 6TB HDD in it for torrents, looks like everything else is good to go.

            • @TheCandyMan2020: You are welcome mate. I agree. It pleasantly surprised me. It's an excellent system for a pre-built at the price. It equates to everything at RRP including the GPU (comes to $900). Can't complain about that.

      • Hi @DreaminBargains, my unit will arrive next Monday (it's sad it just arrived my local depot on Friday afternoon), I'm planning to add a HDD drive for extra storage, can you quickly check to see if there is a spare SATA data cable included in the case? Thank you!

        • +1

Yes, one of the drive bays is ready to accept a HDD/SSD. It has a data and power cable already routed to the bay. It also come with a toolless drive cage.

    • Glad to hear that. The ETA of my order just got postponed for a month…

  • Overall pretty happy with this unit so far.

However it didn't ship with a HDD so I am trying to install my own HDD's in it (1TB storage aint enough, and I dont want to use an SSD for torrents).

There are 2 drive bays free in the case. To install hard drives in these bays you need a Dell hard drive caddy for each drive.

Sadly only one of the bays has the required hard drive caddy.

I have done some research and believe the hard drive caddy is part number 065KHD

I cannot find it for sale on the Dell parts/accessories site

I have chatted to Dell tech support and they told me to contact sales. So I contacted Dell sales and they told me to contact Dell tech support!

This is the item on EBAY https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/294569737553

Can I buy one of these from Dell directly and if so, how ?

I reckon Dell really should give me one for free, but I am not holding my breath.

    • I guess you can just contact Dell online chat and provide this part number.

I was planning to add a HDD but after I ordered one I realised it was a SMR drive, I ended up cancel the order.

For torrenting I've switched to use NAS to do this for a long time - much less power consumption and you don't need to burn a i9 + 3080 machine for torrenting :)

      • Damn. Wish I could have taken over your order

        • and I'm thinking of cancelling my order - it's meant to be a bday gift, but looks like it won't make it in time. Thinking I should just build a "similar" one with Shopping Express sales atm…

  • has anyone not received the item yet?

    • I haven't received yet - customer support told me that they are still waiting for a PSU. ETA early March. sigh…

      • Havent received it yet either. Dell gave me a tracking number, seems it is stuck at order confirmed since 24th of Jan. The estimated shipping date is 1st of March, but I have this feeling that it will be delayed… Having all these "cheap" 3080s coming up on sale, if it doesn't get shipped by the estimated date, I will be canceling my order.

        • Is there a better deal than this?

I was keen for one but didn't see this till too late. Keen to hear if there are better deals out there.

          • @On1: I had mine shipped yesterday. I don't think you can find anything this cheap yet, even with the recent discounts on the 3080 which I saw being sold for $1600. Put a notification in your settings to be notified when Dell deals get posted, you might find something.

            • @Winston100s: Same finally got shipped yesterday.

How long does it usually take for the delivery?

              • +1

@jarredxx: Mine shipped 7th Feb and delivered on 14th Feb (Arrived Sydney on 11st which was a Friday, the actual delivery took place on 14th)

    • still waiting for it to be shipped sigh… and they said they won't be able to upgrade the cooler now that AIO is available on dell website. thinking of cancelling it and build my own. roughly $2k if I go with 12600k and pick some quality parts, then hold on my 1080 till 4080 is released…

      • Titan Tech have a similar system. Also I got BPC to quote one up as well, for the same price with better parts. PM me if you are interested and I can send you the details.

        • +1

thanks mate, I've never been a fan of pre-built and only bought the dell coz it was an absolutely steal back in Jan. Titan Tech one is not better value IMO, it's DDR4 and some entry level parts. A friend bought the BPC 3080 build during Xmas sale for $3399 and also only DDR4.

I'll be buying parts as soon as dell confirm the refund, I should be able to secure a decent 12700k build (without GPU) for $2.2k. Keep in mind 3080 is almost two years old and wont handle 120fps at 4k. HODL.

          • @[Deactivated]: Would a system with DDR5 perform much better than DDR4 atm?

I know what you are saying though. It's only another 6 months until next gen 4000 series get released.

            • +1

@mandelbrot: it will in time, and ddr4 mobo not that cheap anyway. Most reviews I read recommend a high-end mobo for intel 12th Gen. I mean we are only talking about 12700k and 12900k here.

I bought the flagship 4790k on release with z97 then upgraded parts over the years m2. SSD, GTX1080 etc, been 8 years and still rocking. Now DDR3 is the real limit here 2400 mhz only. I had no choice back then but I dont see a reason to pick the ddr4 now, spend a little bit more and get yourself a good base. I see my new build to last 10 years lol, just my two cents.
