But highly recommend anyone looking to go on a diet to try the CSIRO wellbeing diet. My wife and I are probably the fittest and healthiest we have ever been in our lives. Has completely changed how we look at food.

    • Is there a particular book or link on their you'd recommend for info on the diet? Thanks in advance!

      • +2

I also did the CSIRO diet and I highly highly recommend. I'm not aware of any book that will give u specifics on the CSIRO well being diet, however if you search for CSIRO well being, you'll find all the info. It does have a cost associated to it ($199 upfront - I think you can pay monthly), however after 12 weeks you get the refund back if you follow their (few) simple rules they have: 1) take a weekly progress pic and upload, 2) daily food log consisting of breakfast, lunch and dinner for at least 4 days a week, 3) record weigh in once a week, 4) achieve net weight loss (can be as little as 100g).

They basically give you the shopping list for the week and all receipes etc. You can also make alterations as need be. Anyway, I highly recommend it. Happy to answer any other questions you or anyone else may have regarding the well being diet.

        • Do you think the premium $299 package is worth it? Wife is looking to go on something like this, not sure she'd be committed enough to follow the steps for the refund.

@Chickenleg: I do recall looking at the premium but didn't think it was worth it - I can't recall what it has though. I think the $199 is extremely good value - especially because you do get the refund at the end of the 12 weeks provided u follow the criteria to get it. Basically, they give you the shopping list for the week and give you all the recipes for each meal. No need to think about it at all.

I'll note that in my case - I started excluding most of the snacks component from my shopping list as I felt way too full when I included all their snacks. This was my case though.

EDIT: Ah just saw your edit regarding she wouldn't be committed enough to get the refund. That's fair, in saying that though, the $199 gets you everything you need to lose the weight, I think the $299 you got a consultation or something, but for me personally it wasn't worth.

EDIT2: Also, it could be the case where she starts the journey on the $199, and she ends up doing well the first few weeks and then gets enticed to get the refund and follows through

            • @eltito: Thanks, yeah I just think she’ll have trouble committing to and also too self conscious to take photos of herself. But I actually think the 2x sessions with dietitian in the premium package might motivate her so will keep looking into it

              • @Chickenleg: Fair, I will mention that at the end, you must also tick that you are happy for them to share your story & pics (if they choose to) in order to get the refund.

@Chickenleg: If you lose weight in the program by the end of the 12 weeks they will refund the fee. Its much easier if you do it with your wife. I actually enjoy it, and without tooting my own horn, I have dropped to about 12% body fat. I have abs for the first time in my life (im 37).

The first time we did it my wife was hospitalised and couldnt complete the diet, so we lost the ability to get the refund. We signed up again and are now on Course 2 which is another 12 weeks. After that you go on a maintenance plan which gives you access to their meal planning.

They use a food unit system rather than calorie counting. So during the course of the day you are assigned x amount of protein units (for example 150g of steak is 1 unit), dairy units, vegetable units, grains/bread, fats/oils, indulgences. There are lots of meals available and we pretty much like them all. I have noticed with other programs we generally only rotate a handful of the same recipes.

The food is the very tasty. In the start as you adjust, you need to be creative about keeping away the hunger. You are allowed to eat as many vegies you want, so we have snacks like sugar snap peas and salsa, air fryer parsnips chips, or different soups. We have cut out junk food completely.

You can still have take away as a treat sometimes but you need to make sure you can fit it in to their food units system.

We will continue indefinitely as it gives us our meal plan and shopping list of the week. Takes out the guess work. Plus we are used to it now.

        • Great info, thanks mate!
