100% HECS Waiver Undergraduate Certificate in Applied Design @ UTAS (All Online)

430

The Undergraduate Certificate in Applied Design teaches some great skills and areas of knowledge in my opinion.

Consider if the course is right for you and if you have the time to spend 5+ hours a week on each subject before applying. That is 10+ hours a week if you do two subjects each semester, and probably 20+ hours a week when assignments are due.

Part of this UTAS deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/675872 although this is course is not listed on the post and it seems like a useful course.

For a little fun. This certificate may be suitable if you answer yes to any of the following questions:
* Are you boring? With your style, PowerPoints or environment? Learn perception, beauty and style with Design Aesthetics.
* Do you want to impress your colleagues in meetings or when you give feedback to management? With fancy phrases like user experience, design thinking, rapid prototyping and principles of Gestalt.
* Do you have poorly designed systems and processes in your company? Or work for the state or federal government? Then user experience, design thinking and design aesthetics can help.

Four subjects all offered online (off campus delivery) in Sem 1 and 2 2022:
* Design Thinking (https://www.utas.edu.au/courses/university-college/units/zad…)
* Design Aesthetics (https://www.utas.edu.au/courses/university-college/units/zad…)
* User Experience (UX) Design (https://www.utas.edu.au/courses/university-college/units/zad…)
* Creative Entrepreneur (https://www.utas.edu.au/courses/university-college/units/zad…)

Duration: Minimum 0.5 Years, up to a maximum of 1 Years

HECS waiver: "100% HECS fee waiver: Choose to study the Undergraduate Certificate in Applied Design with us in 2022, and you can complete all four units of your certificate without tuition fees."

Course description
"In this course we’ll guide you to work with design thinking and design processes, visual language and form, design for inclusive interactions, and strategies and tools for creative enterprise. By understanding major shifts in how design fields now operate, you’ll gain foundational design knowledge and a framework for identifying opportunities.

Wherever you are, you can apply design skills to your interests in any sector or current role. Designing communications, services, experiences and new business models – with the technical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills valued in workplaces and community – are but a few of the many ways you can apply design.

You’ll be learning by doing with hands-on design activities developing, prototyping and testing ideas, and creating projects through which you can progress your goals. Our practice-based learning approach means your tutors are industry-embedded, guiding you to explore places, cases and practices relevant for you and always connecting people and planet."

    Just applied to this from the previous deal because I want a career swap and this would be handy. Not sure if this applies to everyone else but when reviewing my application I had the personal competencies flashing red at me without the opportunity to edit or see the section initially. I called them up and they were able to move my application forward from that.

    Quick question. After enrolling, what if I'm not able to finish the course?

    • +2

      Nothing, until you are judged by God and sentenced to eternal purgatory

  • Can you still do this if you are post grad?

    • +1

      As long as you meet the eligibility criteria

      "Am I eligible for the HECS fee waiver?
      You will be eligible to receive a HECS fee waiver, if you qualify for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), specifically if you are one of the following:

  • is there any social component to the course? are lectures live? can i meet my future wife?

  • What's the experience been for people with a 9-5?

    I'm looking to do the Applied Tech Cert. However, even at part-time study it seems like I'll have to do two units each semester. Is this manageable?

    • study while you work

  • Would these in the schedule be set times that remote students would need to log in for?
