Rex continues to drop the cheap flights on their main routes, including checked luggage and a refreshment service as part of the deal! Some of these routes (eg SYD/MEL <-> GC) are subsidized to half of their regular price, like the equivalent Jetstar and Qantas sales.

    Be aware that a lot of flights are being cancelled at the moment due to Covid related staff shortages.

    Budget airlines may just refund or the next flight might be a longer wait than Virgin/Qantas.

    I flew SYD-BNE yesterday, My 7am Virgin flight got cancelled and I was moved to 8am. Jetstar had cancelled both the morning flights, about 1/3 of domestic flights were showing as cancelled. I nearly tried to save $20 by booking Jetstar, but glad I didn't.

      Can confirm this (flew from Cairns to Sydney yesterday). Original Jetstar scheduled at 7 AM got canceled and we were moved to a mid-day flight which happened to be a Qantas one (at no extra cost, so turned out to be a good deal for us). They confirm this cancellation and the rebooking with Qantas the day before so we didn't have to waste our time at the airport. Jetstar ain't that bad after all.

        Rex don't have a parent carrier to put you on though.

        An airline will always give you a seat if available, but if a plane load of passengers needs to be rebooked there will be priority given. Those who are not 'members' and paid the least for their tickets will be at the back of the queue and paying $$$ for a last minute flight.

      At least you had extra flights available shortly after. Not that it helps if you need to be somewhere at a specific time.
      But some of our cancelled Rex flights are once a day routes… Which is a pain in the @$$ when specials have come and gone.

    As mentioned above most airlines are battling with staff shortages due covid infections so check the fine print in regards to cancellations and changes to your booking.

      I recently got stuffed around by Gotogate with all their change fee cancellation fees. Does anyone know if these dates are flexible after booking?

        Agents often charge 'admin' fees if making changes, even if the airline allows free changes. And sometimes you have to do it via them too.

        Book direct where possible.

    mm I feel more confident with rex then other carriers because last time my flight got affected by covid they gave me a full refund..

      I'd rather get to my destination. A refund is useless if you have accommodation booked. Most accommodation required 24-48 hours notice to cancel.

        Most airbnb within 24 hrs. But true.. it sucks, I think though it'll suck more if I had lost the money for acom and flight.

      That's good for your circumstance but if my flight gets cancelled, i want another to ensure i get to my destination and don't loose my accom.anyone know if domestic travel insurance will cover flight cancellations that then mean you either need to rebook at a much higher cost or get reimbursed for lost accom? I need a holiday!

          Damn, so if i say, book to the sunny coast and my flight(s) get cancelled and jacked up in price etc and I can no longer justify going …it could be deemed cancellation or delay due covid and not included in insurance coverage? Makes it tough for planners like me. Maybe I'll consider a cross border roadtrip instead of air.

    Just booked some return flights Melb - Adel towards the end of the month. Super suss booking process - search showed one price, went the entire way through the booking process, submitted payment and received the notification "Prices have gone up - 'Accept new price?'. Obviously confused, I went back to search, selected the flights again, went through the entire booking process, submitted payment and got the same notification but the new price was even higher again! Still slightly cheaper than booking through Rex, so I accepted anyway. Wish I didn't now as I've just found reviews of the mytrip.com site you get pushed through to for the actual booking process: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/mytrip-com
