  • Is it real or fake ?

  • Nothing on their website about this deal. No info as to whether its Australia wide or a specific store. Sounds like another Dick Deal.

I'm finally going to buy something for my laser disc player.

  • Not every store, scanned at Knox DSE and was only 20% off

  • +1

I saw this the other day at DSE and the DVDs weren't that great - a lot of no name DVDs and a few name ones but all old (eg., Black Rain and Chinatown). I noticed at JB they had a similar standard for $5 as well. Definately not blu rays on sale.

    Any box sets?

    • Confirmed myself - it included box sets.

  • Maybe it's only stores that are closing down.

  • Windows 3.1 - HOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!

    • The guy in front of me got the last box - apparently staff had grabbed most stock for themselves:(.

  • real, all stores

less than $5 but nothing i would die for

  • no sale at fountain gate

This is one of the biggest bargains of the year!

I manage to get Sopranos season2, 24 season 6, Family Guy seson 6, season 7, Bosotn leagel and American Dad season 2 and season 3 for $5 each.

Just negging to highlight it looks like it's not all stores.

I went to Forest Hill, which is supposed to be closing down. They had 2 signs on their DVD clearance bin. Something like 30% off all titles was on a sign that was falling off the side. Prices as marked, on a sign fixed to the front.

Some DVDs were at $5. Others were around $10. Not much range to it.

So no, not all stores are having the $5 sale.

  • +1

I'm not going to neg this because I didn't get to the Perth CBD store until early afternoon, but they had nothing but absolute rubbish left.

  • I was at Fountain Gate earlier today and the sale was active I got quite a few movies and box sets.

  • Very Happy. Got a number of box sets including Weeds (S1 - 2), 24 (S1 - 7, missing Season 5), Prison Break (S1-3), Girls of the Playboy Mansion (guilty pleasure. S1 - 2) and a number of the Top Gear specials. I already have the set, but they also had what looked to be every series of Seinfeld remaining so getting all of those for $5 each would be a steal. Looked to be plenty of Stargate for those that are into that too, as well as a lot of decent films that I didn't bother with.

This is at The Canberra Center at about 3PM today. All up I think I got about 22 films/boxsets, some of which I had already wanted, others I'm curious to watch and if I hate them, they'll make ok gifts.

    • To add, at the above store Blurays weren't included.

Going to have to go back tomorrow also. One of the DVDs had the disc missing :(

    • was there more stock left

      • +1

Yes there was. In fact I went back today due to the fact one of them was missing a disc (as with my other post) and they had added additional stock to the shelves that wasn't there when I went Thursday. Ended up grabbing a couple more, including the season five of '24' that wasn't there the day before.

Did cock up and buy one DVD today that I had purchased yesterday. At $5, it's not an error that will kill me. I'll gift it.

Note that box sets seem to be drying up unless you are into Stargate, Seinfeld or American Chopper, in which case they had a fair few of those. Quite a decent range of music DVDs and then there was still a lot of movies available, and ones that I consider to be quite alright.

Since I had time I decided to go to Woden and see what they had there. Don't bother. Looks like the DSE is closing down or moving there and the floor was almost barren besides a few TV's and miscellaneous crap. Certainly no DVDs to be seen. They did have 20% off whats left in stock so if you want a new TV, then they're good otherwise it wasn't too great. Had a look at the few DSLRs they had too but even with 20% off I've seen better prices posted here in recent months.

        • yeah Looks like i'm gonna go to DFO and Belconnen to scavenge some IT Crowd boxsets. Did Woden have blurays on sale?

        • +1

Sorry I'm a bit late. Woden had no movies in the store what so ever. They had a few TVs for sale, a couple of laptops, some headphones, GPS units and cameras and besides that the store was close to barren.

I'm not sure if they have another one inside the shopping center, but I went to the store next to the cinema and it looked like they were close to being in the last weekend of a closing down sale.

Regarding the IT Crowd, I did see season one at DSE in Civic on the Thursday and Friday. No idea if they are still there. Didn't see any other seasons however.

        • Thanks

I almost got to the new Star Wars bluray trilogy in Woden today. It was $20. This lady saw it before me and grabbed it like 3 seconds before me. #FML

BTW where did you see the IT Crowd, civic one had no boxset I category. Jumped from H to J

    Macquarie Centre now has 19 less $5 dvd's ..

  • Went to DSE Fountain Gate today.
Got The Shield season 1,2,3 + Underbelly Razor, 4 007 movies (newest being tomorrow never dies, the rest earlier), rocky balboa/rocky 1 double pack, IT crowd Season 1,2 for 5 bucks each.
They had more but this will last me a while

sale not happening at Melbourne road Geelong store (which is closing down), all dvd's are only 30% off

  • I saw it at Macquarie shopping centre Ryde today. All DVDs $5 but I am only after blu-ray.

  • Confirmed it's happening at Canberra civic.. I am $100 poorer. Was tempted to fleabay a heap of Seinfeld seasons.

    • WTF did you buy. I went there at around 12.40PM, and nothing worth of interest was there. The Seinfeld dvds in those plastic cases were still there but nothing really good.

      • I posted above, but the best grabs for me were season 1 - 7 of 24, Season 1 - 2 of Weeds, 1 - 3 of Prison break and then a stack of Top Gear DVDs which admittedly probably aren't brilliant, but it's my favorite TV show so they'll all get a viewing.

Melbourne road geelong store staff were complaining today that their store hasn't reduced dvd prices to $5 as there were dvds that they want to buy but not until they were $5

  • whats with all the Dick Smith jokes, I dont get it? Do they buy there own stock?
