Some of these are so bad. The truck one in particular is so arbitrary

    • +5

Hmmm in what way? They're sensory for Baby-2yo…

      • +10

Really poor word choice. It's hard to describe.

Using different words to describe exactly the same texture is confusing to kids. But especially when none of the words being used to describe that common texture are a part of daily language.

You'd need to read it to understand what i mean.

They're not all bad. But as the series gets long in the tooth they get a bit more desperate and do it more often.

        • +1

Also, it's a truck/bus. Very arbitrary, when would a child ever a) own a bus or b) touch it.

Personally I wouldn't want my child touching bus bumpers lol

        • +2

I know what you mean. My son LOVES them, but every now and then the word they use is so odd that it's hard to see how it supports young children language development. The front cover of 'That's not my monster' shows this. 'His nose is too bobbly' when 'bobbly' isn't even a word. Hmmm.

            • +1

@Forfiet: The definition says it is "Mainly UK" which explains why it's not known here.

Not a great choice for an international audience to use a local term, but goes to support what some have said above.

              • -1

@odysseus: To be fair, I thought it was slang…. :P

          • +2

@Darkheartz: bobbly with bobbles, the things you shave off jumpers (?)

i dont think these are the best for language development but they are ok for
            - getting your kid interested in books
            - just sensory fun

cant be worse than baby jake (that kids seem to love)

            • @juki: [Rant]
              (╬ ಠ 益ಠ) UGGHHHHHHHHHHH…
I LOATHE that 2D Baby Jake. My girls loved it. Now that they've finally in school and have outgrown that show, my 2 year old has picked it up.

And why the heck is the intro before each episode so long? Why did they bother to introduce ALL of his 8 siblings alphabetically ordered when they're irrelevant to the show?

              • @UseHerName: cheap to produce, maximise profit, baby jake is an ozbargainer :)

googoo gee ya to you :)

What do you have against trucks?

      • Small truck and bug garage or vice versa.

    • Helps if you elaborate. They actually all follow the same formula except with different subjects.

That is not my koala is basically the same as that is not my wombat. You touch the same parts like nose, paws, ears etc. So if you have one you basically have them all. Unless you are particularly attached to a certain animal.

Did send a few to friends overseas which are specifically Australian animals.

    • Santa one wasn't too bad

      • How about the catholic priest one

        • Santa was a bishop, so close enough?

      • My wife and I had a good chuckle over Santa's sack being 'too rough'.

    "That's not my…" Touch / Feel

Very bad choice of words for a childs book

    • +1

Agreed, my immediate thought was "That's not my koala…" was a euphemism for something else.

      • +15

        That's not my beaver!

        • That's not my Giraffe! 😧😧

        • +3

naked gun movie comes to mind, classic Leslie Neilsen

          • +1

@Chicken Kyiv: Exactly what I was thinking about when I commented!! 😂

            Nice beaver!
Thank you. I just had it stuffed.

            • @Spun: The fact she was standing on a ladder above him when he said it.

    • That's not my Cardinal Pell…

  • +1

Cheers OP, got 3 of the best sellers for $18 delivered.

  • +2

Got the Koala one, pretty average imo, doesn't seem to interest the little one much.

I'd recommend trying one before loading up on these.

  • +5

its same price at BIG W too

  • +2

    Drop bear

    • we need more books on drop bears

  • +2

I remember reading "That's not my bunny!" to my eldest when he was a baby. He used to love it and would love to feel all the textures on each page. That was 14 years ago now. Far out.

    • +4

If you are tempted to have another, don't!

  • +2

Not trying to rain on your parade Op. But my sister who has a few little ones told me that these books are $6 all year round at Kmart & that I shouldn’t believe in Amazon’s RRP.

I still think it is a good deal for these books delivered though if you have Prime or don’t want to brave the chaos of your local Kmart.

    • +1

I think I've also seen it at Big W for $6 too. The range may be more limited in store though.

      • +8

Welcome to Oz "we only post deals from Amazon, even if they are just price matching other stores" Bargain.

  • Thanks OP, got 9

  • +1

So, you're encouraging kids to touch up koalas? Isn't that a bit … Illegal?

    • +1

Plus they have 'the clap'….no applause please :(

      • Not according to Aunt Chlamydia!

  • I loaded up on three of these a while back - they're not great except for sub 9mths olds imo.

There's no real educational value coming from these compared with books like the 'Baby Touch' series (e.g. the Shapes book teaches babies shapes and provides sensory experience/fun).

  • The sloth one is great :)

  • are these good for 3+ yrs kids

    • +1

No. Way too young. Suggest Anthony Blabey or Mo Willems Pigeon books. More fun for adults to read too and quite entertaining.

      • +1

the mo willems squirrel books are the favourite i think

    • +1

No, I wouldn't recommend these to kids over 2 years, or probably even over 18 months. These are too basic, don't really have a story line and are more for the sensory aspect.

I don't have any 3+ yr recommendations though.

    • +1

No. Anything by Julia Donaldson is fantastic, there’s a ten pack available online that’s brilliant. Also Pig the Pug and Macca the Alpaca series are a hit with most 3yos

  • +1

Thanks OP. My kid loves the sloth one so I just bought a few more for him to try.

  • is the kangaroo or wombat one any better than the koala?

    • wombat no, a bit lazy i think, the kangaroo one dont remember

  • +2

My 32 year old, live at home son loves these books!

    • I'm so sorry.

    • Sell your house, buy 2 smaller ones, give one to your son 👍

  • 10 pages only, for $6 i think you can get a better book

    • $6 wont get you anything you can touch and feel

    • Pretty sure these are about $6 in Kmart etc

  • +3

    Yeah, that's not my deal

    • +2

That's not my eneloop. It's top is too smooth

  • +3

That's not my ozbargain, it's deals are too RRP
That's not my ozbargain, it's members are too bipartisan
THAT's my ozbargain, it's eneloops are so Japanese.

  • best books have whole set, kids now 13 and still play with them

  • Before you spring on Amazon, check out Big W’s range. They’re the same price or cheaper than Amazon. https://www.google.com/search?q=big+w+thats+not+my+books&rlz…

    • +2

Fair call, but honestly, their delivery is like a bad comedy show… My Amazon order arrived this morning

      • cant fault amazon delivery and service it’s second to none and i’ve bought a crap tonne of stuff

      • Not going to dispute their delivery is a shiteshow. If you factor in time lost in delayed orders, Amazon is probably ahead. I’ll get back in my box 😂
