I own a couple of these. Ive stood on them, hammered on them, you name it.

I suggest buying an extra few sheets of MDF from bunnings and making the table top somewhere around an inch thick; then it's good for ACTUAL working (hammering, sawing, etc).

I was surprised at how well these held up actually.

    • how much it cost for MDF sheet and how thick should we get?

problem with these MDF is it is not good once it gets wet…
any other alternative wood can we use?

also how much it cost you to buy these work benches?

how much it cost for MDF sheet

Cost me a couple of bucks at the local scrap wood place near me.

        how thick should we get?

As thick as you can tolerate, a heavy workbench is a stable workbench.

any other alternative wood can we use?

Anything you like; Id just avoid Pine.

also how much it cost you to buy these work benches?

Something like $160 for the pair?

what do you recommend that is good or cheap like MDF but is resistant to water damage?

            @pinkybrain:

            what is wrong with pine?

            Its super soft.

what do you recommend that is good or cheap like MDF but is resistant to water damage?

That doesn't exist. Just paint your MDF.

@pinkybrain: Pine is probably too soft. Try plywood? Lots of different grades. Otherwise, Bunnings often has amazingly cheap timber countertops that you could cut down, as another option.

          • @pinkybrain: Are you planning to use it outdoors?

          • @pinkybrain: you could use marine ply, otherwise called 'Formply'- Bunnings have it. just paint any cut ends with a few thick layers of black spray paint (Enamel).

I know they sell full sheets, unsure of smaller cuts. Here's a link anyhow..

      • Put some Framing Timber under the MDF.

  • I need a tool chest trolley, any recommendations?

      Yeah depends on your work.
I recently revalved a cylinder head, and rebuilt my steering rack. Quite a bit of hammering and such to get rack ends loose.

With the 1inch thick top I added, the metal frame looks to have handled it quite admirably.

  • looks like it got oz barged

  • Oos
