Quick summary
* app controlled
* no TKIP security issue if updated to latest firmware
* no wired backhaul
* 100Mbps ethernet portGood value for a holiday house and/or if you have <=100Mbps NBN connection
Thanks for the summary. I was wondering the differences between these and the $400 ones. I think you just answered my question.
What is wired backhaul for a mesh system?
Why would I need/want it?less strain on the wireless bandwidth
Why would I need/want it?
Wireless is a shared bandwidth, so moving traffic to a wired connection, frees up the wireless for faster device transfers etc.
Site listing states it supports backhaul
From memory, I was reading on a Whirlpool forum thread (https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2786574) that setting up wired backhaul causes intermittent dropouts, so best to not use it.. not to mention it would be limited to 100Mbps speeds due to the LAN port speed.

That was like 2-3 years ago…….
I got this one during boxing day sales <$80

This one got bonus 1 pack. So what’s the main deference between mw3 and me5? Thx
Ethernet Port speed is the main difference
Just my personal experience with this brand of mesh system, expecting to get Neg'd:
Maybe I just got unlucky, but the pair of Tenda mw5c's I bought for my folks had nothing but issues, and because they didn't allow you to select which frequency they were being used at, they'd often seem to get interference from the microwave as they would default to 2.4ghz. Replaced with TP Link S4 3 pack, and they've been perfect. No more drop outs, better coverage and connection is always at advertised speed (Tenda would drop down to speeds where 480p video would need to buffer).
Mine could just be an isolated case, but I really found these to be poor quality and kind of buggy.
The range on these things is very short fyi.
I live in a small weatherboard house and despite there only being probably (as the crow flies) 15 meters between the 2 nodes, in one of our bedrooms (which is roughly halfway between the 2 nodes)- reception is only 1-2 bars.
Much difference between these and the mw6 model?
Thanks OP
