    • This has always been there for the G14 and G15 series laptops. I bought my G14 earlier this year and have this same deal. Still haven't used it as I already paid for a few months of gamepass - but I'll be sureee to use it once those finish :)

Never seen the appeal of these…things. So expensive…

    • +19

Do you play PC games? Do you need something that is portable because you travel a lot? This seems pretty reasonably priced compared to people I know spending $5000 on a Macbook Pro lol

      • +1

As a G14 user, this is VERY well said!!

        • I just ordered a G14 and looking forward to it muchly :D

    • They are a good stop gap for those of us too lazy/hesitant in building their own pc :P. I got a gaming laptop (ASUS TUF A15) back in March with the idea of having something portable to game on while I decide on the desktop build I wanted to go with. 9 months later and I still haven't made up my mind and I've been using the laptop quite a bit (internet use + gaming - both portable and while rigging it up to a 65" tv).

    • Given I was considering dropping 4-5k on a 14" gaming laptop I thought this was mid spec / priced

    • I mean most decent laptops are around $1.5k min and that is without any sort of discrete card.

For those who are wondering the TDP/TGP of the RTX 3060, its 80W (95W with Dynamic Boost)

    • How do you turn on dynamic boost?

      • NVIDIA control panel. Would be on by default most likely

    • -2

      Intel tho

      • What’s wrong with Intel ?

        • not cool to support them online

    • It's really recommended to avoid the Intel quad cores. They are a fairly big bottle neck in many applications to the point this is ranked one of the worst laptops of the year by some reviewers

  • How is the screen on this? Is it VA or IPS?

    • +3

IPS 1080p 144Hz. There is also a 1440p 60 Hz option from other sellers. However, if you game, this should be a better option, imo

    • +2

The JB Hifi version has the crippled 1080p screen which covers only 62.5% of sRGB, meaning it appears very washed out. Other models of G15 come with a superior 1440p 165Hz screen with 100% sRGB. Still a good deal if this doesn’t bother you.

  • +5

What is the battery life on these when used for office work and porn?

    • +2

Well that depends. Are you looping the porn over and over while you zoom your work colleagues?

      • +5

Just for background noise, so I don't feel lonely.

    • +1

I get around 8-9 hours in light to medium use on the same specced G14 so I assume this would be on par or better - not sure if bigger battery or not

    • This is one of the higher battery life gaming laptops generally 7+ I think is normally reported. Plenty of reviews. Jarrod tech reported 8+ hours for YouTube with 50% brightness on the screen

  • +1

Do you think it's worth paying an extra few hundred dollars for the RTX 3070?

    • +6

I would. If you are paying this much and using it for a few years, whats a few hundo for a much stronger card?

17 incher Legion is $2124. 130w 3060. 144hz FHD panel with no PWM and promised full sRGB, 6c/12t CPU

    • +6

1.9kg vs 3kg. A lot of people fail to understand to biggest pro of the Asus Zephyrus laptops is the portability factor and that’s generally why you’d purchase one

      • -8

1.9 kg isn't exactly light either

and my example is just to demonstrate that you can have higher 3060 tgp for same money or less

get a 15 incher to cut off a few hundred grams if that's your game

also Asus. be it rog and twice Zephyrus, I have seen them inside out, and I say whoever buys this also probably thinks MSI makes good laptops. jeez louise people are hopeless

        • +3

Legion laptops are some of the best gaming lappys available sure. Zephyrus laptops are highly rated as well so not sure why you want to rag on this deal.

This is a solid price on a great 15 inch portable laptop . You've posted a laptop from an different category with a different use case so not sure what your point is?

"jeez louise people are hopeless" just makes you sound like a moron

          • -3

@gabos: well I am glad we got that straightened out :) phew! I was getting worried whether I sounded moronic enough

            I'll be brief:
            - 65% sRGB
            - half soldered RAM
            - crap keyboard
            - those hinges

and that's for twice the price of Acer that has that all and 3060 95w as well. yeah weighs 200g more and no fancy Ryzen 9 that no one actually needs. what, you're going to edit videos on the thing? with that crap panel?

so much for "light and portable" so you're effectively paying $1k more for 1 less ram slot, 1 less nvme slot, a bit less weight.. let's just say it all adds up perfectly fine :)

you can get something so much better for that money. use your brain for once

            • +1

@shabaka: Why are you even bothering, have a great day mate

              • -1

@gabos: I have to do it few times a year to offset all the upvotes I get in other threads

you know, can't go into the 2022 all unbalanced (: have a great day everyone!

          • +1

@gabos: One of my students recently bought a legion 5 from them. Came without a working WiFi card which they told him was standard. I told him that's bs and to send it back. They sent him a second hand replacement with scratches on it. Lenovo has severely gone down In my books after that

            • +1

@Ruddaga: But I think in here, ozbargainers love Lenovo much much more than any other brand of laptops

              • @kaikor: The Lenovo Thinkpad had cult status here on Ozb in years gone by.

Isn't the Kraken X15F a much better deal than this?

    It's a full powered 3060, 240hz FHD panel and $749 cheaper (delivered)…: https://www.bpctech.com.au/kraken-m15-f-kraken-m15-f-gaming-…

    • Would say different not necessarily better (weaker battery, mech keyboard is personal taste etc) but this does seem a really good deal and would definitely preform better

This looks to be the XMG Xenia 15 (I think) if anyone is searching for reviews.

      • Pretty sure the X15 actually has a bigger battery capacity too (94whr vs 90whr) - Although I would assume the ASUS would chew it a little slower depending on what it is doing.

And yes, the Kraken X15 is based off the Intel NUC X15 base laptop kit.

        • Ryzen is just far more battery efficient for less demanding tasks. Basing my comment on this video at 6:36 the G15 has about 3 hours longer battery watching YouTube. https://youtu.be/3AmtDtw2XtQ. Battery sizes are all similar at 90 these days so just comes to part efficiency and background programs / RGB rather than battery size.

You have me tempted for this price I wouldn't of thought you could get much 3060 for 1500 not counting Acer nitro (as I want something a little higher quality than nitro when I upgrade) but I am set on waiting for CES next week for 12th gen intel AMD 6000 and potential GPU refreshes (incase anyone was wondering why these were so heavily discounted they are replaced next week)

          • @[Deactivated]: Yeah, I was just watching the exact same review, it's an impressive laptop and even higher ranked overall than the G15 by Jarrod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq1NPvqI91w&t=3026s

I'm close to grabbing a Kraken, but I'm in two minds with the QHD vs FHD and the 3060 vs the 3070! It's doing my head in as the 3070 can be had for $1999… with 1TB NVME albeit 1080p@240hz.

I doubt any of the 12th Gen / AMD 6000 laptops will be anywhere near this 1500-2000 price bracket for a while…

            • @Grish: For me it's the 1500 price point being low enough to almost impulse buy while going up to 2000 brings in other considerations from other brands etc.

My problem is I do currently have a laptop with 7700HQ and 1060 so I don't NEED the upgrade just want which makes deciding when to do it much harder as I can just hold off

  • +1

Suppose it should be mentioned there is likely a refresh coming in just a week with CES Intel 12th gen is confirmed and think AMD might have a 6000 refresh from some leaks as well as GPU super refresh or similar… Obviously not available now or at this price but given it is just a week away sure someone might want to know.

    • True. Slated clearance for a reason. Hodl and wait for annoucement n price guide

  • I heard some issues about the screen on this. Can anyone who has picked it up give some more info? Thanks.

  • Any thoughts on the m16? Intel processor though.
