DigiDIRECT is having their Sale of the Year.

The best deal I can see is the Panasonic Lumix S5 with 20-60mm Lens kit. It is the best price I have seen to date. There is currently a promotion of bonus 50mm F1.8 lens with the kit as well.
The convenient thing with this bonus is that when you add the camera kit to cart, the bonus lens is automatically added at $0, so no need to make a separate claim and wait for approval like the usual bonus claims.
Considering that each of the two lens is worth over $500, easy math to work out the remaining value of the camera body.

Icing on the cake is Shopback or Cash Rewards 5% 4% cash back.

Ignore the armchair experts and Sony full frame fanboys' opinions that other brands are inferior (I own Sony gear too), do your own research. It is quite a capable full frame for general photography, studios work or hybrid work (4K videos with no cropping, and it does not overheat ;-) ). DFD autofocus may bother some people, but not me. I have actually used it myself and occasionally notice the DFD pulsing but that did not stop me from taking decent photos. However, if you are into fast action photography, then it is not for you.

Being part of the L-mount alliance, you can get capable but inexpensive Sigma L-mounts lens. Eg A Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 Art lens is half the price of a Nikon Z or Canon RF equivalences.

[Edit 27/12/21] MrMedoMan advised that it is now cheaper at CameraElectronic, $2091. Better still, Digidirect will price match, so you can take advantage of the CR/SB's 4% cash back! It is like paying $1K for a late model hybrid full frame camera. This has to the best full frame price this end of 2021!

[Edit 29/12/21] Digidirect just price beat Camera Electronic on their own web site for $2081.65.

  • At that price, why not… L Mount alliance for the win!

  • Just beware 4k60p has a 30 minute recording limit.

    • does anyone record over 30 minutes straight of 60p video?

      • Yes

      • Yes, 100% I will never forgive Europe for this silly law.

        • I read into it, you could just as easily blame the companies who don't want to have an extra tariff put on their cameras because they are now classed as video cameras, providing you would pay the extra $200 bucks on a $2k camera (I have no opinion on why a video camera should be taxed more than a stills one though)

@Jackson: The reason for the S5 is because of over heating concerns in the smaller body compared to their S1 series.

That's the max time frame Panasonic were comfortable with internal 10 bit 4k. Which is still super impressive.

For HD & 8 bit 4k the S5 has no recording limit.

Panasonic has plenty of cameras that do not have a limit.

      • Most events you could get away with stop starting before hitting the 30 min limit like plenty have had to do with the 5D mk iii etc.

Important to note any long form recording. The S5 can record longer with an external recorder. A recorder is handy anyway!

  • Damn, bought mine earlier in the year and haven't got to use it much. Wish I had waited! Great deal!

  • Bought mine during click frenzy. Did not realise they would discount this aggressively! Well worth it especially with the kit lens and bonus 50mm at this price.

  • How does this compare to the deal with the Sony a7iii for around 1647 with cashback. I am aware that the Sony will end for more when I buy lenses, but I have used the S1 with v-log for video before, and found that it's DFD autofocus was disgusting to the point where I had to pull focus on almost every shot. I think I heard that they updated the s5's. Personally, I would prefer sony, but if this is cheaper, I am considering it too.

Can price match for 2091 via https://www.cameraelectronic.com.au/panasonic-lumix-s5-mirro…

Contact support and got approval and got a one time use promo code, now with 4% cashback would be 2,007.36.

Seems the listing itself is 2091 now without any manual price matching.

      That's a pretty fantastic price

MrMedoMan meant that you price match @ Digidirect so you can stack with CR/SB cash back.

    • Do you know if digidirect have stock?

      • I called them 15 min ago and yeah they have stock.

    • Hey man!
I called up digidirect to price match, they told me that to price match I would need to complete the order over the phone- how did you tell them to give you the code?

      Cheers

      • +1

        Chat box.

      • Yep like previous comment, over the chat box on website, I was trasfered to Gary who gave me the code.

  • No need to request Digidirect to price beat Camera Electronic. They just updated their own web site for even less, $2081.65.

  • Great price, this or Sony a7m4?

    • If you could get an a7iv for this price then the choice is obvious, but at 2x the price for the body alone and no lenses they're not really comparable.

Byebye21 code for an extra 5% off, making 1977.57

    • But it does not add the bonus lens to the cart anymore:

We apologize, but your free gift <Panasonic LUMIX S 50mm F1.8 Lens > is not available at the moment

      • +1

Called up my store and just ordered over the phone instead. The had one prime left in stock and they applied the code. Even without the code it wouldn't let me add it on the site.
        Ty for posting this deal

        • hmmmm, missed the 4% shopback….

          • +1

@tonyyang: Becomes a bit of a trade up since the lenses might not be in stock online.

  • +1

I guess they ran out of 50mm”s

I added it without using the code and you get the same error.

Also shopback doesn’t seem have the code listed but Cashrewards does so you can get the 2.8%
update: I did get a email from shopback saying it did track

I called the Penrith store, they said they ran out of stock for the 50mm primes but if you come in and purchase in-store, the promo still applies ie. you'll get your bonus 50mm lens at a later date. The guy I spoke to the phone and he said that YMMV if you order online (might miss out on the free lens because it's technically out of stock and the terms and conditions says that the promo goes until the stock of 50mm lens runs out).

      • Oh that’s good to know, looks like I’m going to need to cancel :(

        • +1

Give them a ring tomorrow and double check. They're quite friendly and easy to deal with so it wouldn't hurt to talk to them first and see if you can work something out. :)

  • Just picked up mine. Paid via Zip too so it's not too shabby even if I span it across a year.

I chatted online with Digidirect. Was told that the lens was out of stock, but they confirmed that as long as order today, would still get the kit and the promo bonus lens together, ETA 2 weeks time.
