As much as I appreciate Decathlon and their products, their website is terrible.

A $700 item preview says "Free Shipping above $150*", but the item page says "Pickup only", then the checkout page suggests there's click and collect for that item from a couple of places, but then it says unavailable until you choose a store that has stock.

There are some free returns for MVPs, but T&Cs, of course, so you need to read through all of that…

  • That's strange their kayak not include the paddle and the pump. Comparing with Ozb favourite kayak Intex challenger already include both, which makes the setup a lot cheaper.

    • +1

Not really any comparison between Intex products and Itiwit

      • -1

Yes there is a comparison, just one is a better quality product over the other.

        • +2

"no comparison" between comparable products is a well-worn expression identifying the huge gap (usually in quality) between one manufacturer's offering and another's.

      • which one is better? i truly have no idea

        • +1

          They're an entirely different class.

Intex are a pretty basic vinyl inflatable. Itiwit are generally drop-stitch construction which allows for pretty rigid, high pressure structures meaning you can take it more or less anywhere a hard-shell can go.

        • Having said that, it looks like there are some lower end gear on the link that may well not be drop-stitch. I've no idea about their entire range but I spose codinghelloworld was looking at those which is fair enough and is not part of the range I'm familiar with.

          • +1

@0jay: Yeah, I watched some youtube videos and it looks like Itiwit has better quality and material.

  • Was hoping the itiwit pump would be on special but alas

This Kmart pump's the same unit just without the pressure gauge - https://www.kmart.com.au/product/dual-action-hand-pump/34083…

      • Noting this is not true. I took that advice thinking I'd save $20.

The Kmart pump doesn't have an interlocking cord. It's hard to pump the kayak, because you need to hold the cord tight in the valve.

Frustrating and certainly not worth saving $20.

        • The hose doesn’t lock or the pump fitting has no catch?

Product images show the same bayonet style catch as on my itiwit pump

          • @0jay: https://decathlon.com.au/products/2-x-2-6l-double-action-kay…
            - photos show the end of the hose has bolts or hooks or whatever's attached to it; also here.

            https://www.kmart.com.au/product/dual-action-hand-pump/34083…
            - you can see the end of the hose here is straight and smooth or has two nozzles that you can push into whatever it fits, but there are no bolts or hooks; there nothing to hold it in place in a kayak's valve, you need to hold the hose in the valve.

            • @pizzaguy: Sorry you ended up with something unsuited to the task. My question is as to the bayonet fitting on the pump itself.

The itiwit pump has the same bayonet lock fitting on the hand-grip as in the kmart pictures (the itiwit pressure gauge locks onto this with an identical bayonet style fitting on its other side).

Sounds like the hose is the problem? Can you not return the pump?

              • @0jay: Both Itiwit and Kmart's have bayonet sockets on the pump.
Both Itiwit and Kmart's have byaonet mount (so with bolts) on one side of the hose .
Itwit has a proper bayonet mount on the other side of the hose too; Kmart's other end is just push-into whatever it fits.

Itwit has a gauge and a longer cord. Kmart's hose is too short - you need to stand right next to the valve if the valve is on the ground, as the pump valve is on the handle that goes up and down.

Itwit is made for Decathlon kayaks and other inflatables. Kmart is whatever the mould at the factory was minus cost-increasing features.

Kmart's plastic chasis grazed (against road, pavement, decking?) the second it was out of the car, so can't be returned. I don't know about Decathlon's Itwit durability.

Perhaps I can get a better hose somewhere. And a gauge. Or might go back to Decathlon.

                • @pizzaguy: Another update - BigW $22 double action pump is also not suitable - it has bayonet sockets (hooks) on both ends of the hose while a standard bayonet mount (bolts) is required for the kayak.

If buying a kayak at Decathlon, simply get their $35 pump.
