  Thanks rep for your effort. Those GPUs are highly coveted in the current market, but the rest of the PC components are not what I want in a new build :(

  No offence to OP. This is just a general comment. We have gone so far backwards regarding system building that now any two or three year old component has become the norm. There is no shortage of CPUs and motherboards so please stop selling us trash. We will remember these years. I promise you I for one have tattooed on my brain. The retailers now have a hand in this. Previously buying the components separately and building was cheaper than getting a pre-built system which required you to add $100-200 for the store to build it. Now getting a pre-built system is like $500 cheaper. So how are the retailers able to do that? They are price gouging us on the components that's how. You have worked out that keeping the GPU prices high for consumers means we are forced to buy trash components to get our hands on the GPU. Computer retailers are modern day car salesmen selling us lemons.

    Rather, they're selling you the equivalent of homebranded junk bundled together where you would never get something like that individually. I could never buy a value pre-built at the cost of what I paid for the parts I have in my PC, but everything in mine is mid to top spec without being overpriced. And this is with OzB price hunting.

    Not to defend the practice but I think it's being forced upon them by the manufacturers. AIBs know all the shops need GPUs so they make the shops buy other components for the privilege of GPU stock, which means it's passed down to us in this prebuilt form. This is what I gather from reading about it by previous techfast deals and such.

    GPU prices currently are stupid and everyone is to blame (including consumers and miners). I am hodl not because I am poor but out of principle.

    Easy to complain, but lets look at the alternative. In the apparent dream world where GPU units are priced "normally" and unbundled by retailers. These will just get botted and scalped, leading to us regular consumers just ending by paying the same inflated prices, but now from shady markets.

    From the retailers perspective, getting an allocation of GPUs from supplier probably required a significant purchase of what you call "trash components". This is all inventory that still needs to be sold, so its just all being passed on to the consumer. Not saying if this practice is good or bad, but its understandable in the reality we live in.

    In my perspective, its a pretty decent tradeoff to keep scalpers off the stock. These "trash components" don't have much resell value to them, but may be somewhat usable for genuine customers. For enthusiasts, for which I assume such as yourself, well, yeah its hell.
