Rome Return Direct from Perth $1575, ADL $1590, Brisbane $1701, Melbourne $1704, Sydney $1720, Canberra $1726 @ Beat That Flight

In addition to NSW and VIC scrapping 72 hour quarantine for vaccinated international travellers, Qantas is adding DIRECT flights to Italy from Australia from the middle of next year.

(Note: Qantas requires flyers to be double vaccinated)

From 22 June 2022, Qantas will operate the only direct service between Australia and continental Europe, flying three return Sydney-Perth-Rome flights per week to meet demand over the European holiday peak season.

So from other cities, Qantas flights will connect either in Perth or code share with say, Emirates. Regardless, instead of just showing Perth and Sydney, I've searched a bunch of the main routes below.

Rome hotel discounts can also be searched for here.

  • What's the flight time?

    • +5

      About 7 Hollywood blockbusters

      (16-18 hours)

      • +11

        Sounds like torture.

The Hollywood blockbusters or the flight time?

      QF5 will depart Perth at 10.20pm, arriving into Rome at 8.45am - 16hrs 25min
      QF6 will depart Rome 10:50am, arriving into Perth 8:35am - 15hrs 45min

I read this in a PA announcement voice

  • A380?

    • +16

How's Covid goin for ya in NSW champ? 🤡🤡

      • +4

        It's pretty alarming tbh.

      • +14

You really think it's going to be any different for you guys (I'm assuming you are in Perth) when you finally do open the borders?

Just delaying the inevitable at this point.

        • -8

True, if infected people would stop travelling that'd be wonderful. Can't NSW just keep their 2000+ cases to themselves?

      • -3

Just stay under that blanky m8, not sure why you guys need flights to Europe when your so scared of life , in any case , this will be like cricket, won't happen

        • +3

No please, tell me how you guys have gone over the last year and a half

Good thing our mining is able to perform huh, keeps your economy going during your constant lockdowns

There there, you'll enjoy proper freedom soon enough

            • +17

@botchie: My first ever comment is to tell you to go (profanity) yourself

            • +3

@botchie: House prices are only important to idiots.

2 years of COVID and we had 600 Ppl die ….think on that, over 2 years !!!!

It means nothing if you didn't lose someone.

            • +7

              @botchie:

2 years of COVID and we had 600 Ppl die

The fact you're proud of that says it all really…

              • +2

@spackbace: Sorry for this clown, they're sort of the minority here in NSW afaik

            • +2

@botchie: The east coast house value thing is bad news tbh

          • +8

@spackbace: I would caution you against being so cocky about reopening before you try it. NSW were doing great too until we tried opening up (and we are 95% vaccinated). As the previous posters have said, at some stage you will have to open up, and while its great for WA that your main industry only requires minimal contact with the outside world, but at some stage you have to open up, and it will play out exactly like it has everywhere else.

            • +5

@dtpearson: One comment only. There are two ways of opening up.
              - The DUMB way, aka NSW and
              - the other way(s) which are less dumb.

No masks, the unclean able to mingle, and NO QR checkin for some businesses really! Goodluck with it all.

              • +1

@Coops1: Airlines will have to change their stance if they want others overseas travelling with them e.g. only 60% of americans jabbed.

With CoronaV mutating close and closer to the common cold (more contagious, less harmful), time to stop being worried about it. Leave the government and media to fear themselves into oblivion. Time for everyone else to live.

          • +1

@spackbace: Don't worry the hospital system in WA will soon collapse like the house of cards it is. They will be locking down left and right.

    • -1

agree, I knew this would happen at some point, the rest of OZ returning back to normal life, and Perth missing out on all the events, it would be a sobering experience being trapped over there

If your connecting try and just go with Singapore, A380/A350. Qatar is A350 the whole way and $1300.

9 across 787 is just as bad as the 10 across 777 which is probably one of the worst configs about.

It’s a long way in a sardine 787. Qantas service is a drop down from Qatar and Singapore.

    • I agree Qatar best airline ive flown with don't give a cent to qantas

      • +12

Just a shame they arbitrarily remove female passengers from their flights and subject them to invasive gynaecological searches at Doha airport as they see fit. Never flying those (profanity) (profanity) again.

    • Dang, I remember the days when Qatar was 9 across in the 777… sigh

    • +1

I used to have to fly Cathay for work. When the introduced the 10 across 777 that was the death of comfort on their planes. Such a greedy and unnecessary move.

  • Pretty good pricing for peak times, tho who knows where we'll be with Covid …

  • How do you prove your vaccinated? Any travellers know?

    • +1

You have an International COVID Certificate available on Medicare.

    • I am sure most travellers would know.

  • 16 hours in a plane, not for older people, its cattle transport standard

MIGHT be ok in business class, but economy sounds like torture

    • +1

It's ok when flights are half empty

      • Just traveled for 3 weeks and flights were all full

  • +1

Will perth ever open up to rest of the world?

    • +1

      Yes 5th Feb

      • that's a lot of confidence

      • Is that 2024 or 2025?

  • Have they already dropped the connection through Darwin?

  • +4

Be wary of Qantas, if you need a refund because they cancel the flight you could wait up to 7.5 hours like I did to get a refund. Then 8 weeks to get money back.

    • +2

1 tale of a person waiting 71 hours to change a flight via the call centre

      • +3

One business lost patience and cancelled 400k of flights and rebooked with United.

        • +2

Yeah I'm talking about the same guy

    • -1

Twitter is your friend, don't phone them, tweet at them.

PR is everything they'll respond super fast.

      • I'm not sure whether it was Twitter or FB but they can hide your comments from public view and ignore it

        • on their FB page, perhaps. Certainly not on the main twitter firehose.
