edit: Sorry didn't realise it's for XPS…..which is really a great price :)

    • These XPS 30 % off discounts keep coming time and again. Yawn,…

I bought my XPS about 2 discounts ago , the PCs are quite good and in my case delivered within a week from local stock. So not bad and for the configuration I could not find a better price anywhere on any stores.

So if you like Dell then the laptops are OK, just make sure you request that they send it to you without all the F@#$(&*% bloatware. That was the worst part and I later found out that you can buy the bare machine it without all the crap loaded.

The 'sale' price seems to be pretty much the de-facto price given they were on sale a week ago:

No doubt trying to run out old models with Ivy Bridge processors now about 1 month away.

Not a great deal IMO as you can get similar spec'd laptops of comparable quality for similar prices or better.

    • imho Not really, I tried really hard ( 20 + emails to all the local sellers) to get any local resellers to match a quote for a laptop comparable.XPS 17 , reasonably high config laptop, and there was at least a difference of 200 $ for similar comparisons that I made.

the video card is crab gt 540m, so doesn't a real deal

    • +4

That's still a good video card. As soon as you make anything mobile it has to produce less heat which means less performance if you want a gaming machine go desktop

      • -2

today april,2012 u cant tell a laptop with gt540m is a gaming machine, it just an entertainment laptop.
        http://www.harveynorman.com.au/asus-k53sd-sx504v-laptop.html
        look at this asus K53SD 2670QM+ GT610m
        obv dell is selling crab

        • 64 bit (gt610m) against 128 bit (gt540m) memory bus width? I think I'll go with this dell deal…

As said below 540m has more bwdth than 610m, so less bottleneck i supposed.

        • No, you just don't understand computers.

You can use this handy website

          http://www.notebookcheck.net/

to check the performance of a mobile graphics card.

As you can see, the 540m ranks above the 610m.

        • That isn't how video card naming conventions work. A bigger number does not mean it's a better card. The first number is the series and then everything after is where it sits in that series. A GT610M is at the very bottom of the GT600 series, while the GT540M is a little below middle range. The GT600M series is just the GT500M series with a different name, anyway.

Basically, the GT610M is terrible and the GT540M is okay.

        • Obviously crab.

Also, as per CobaltMarine, this site http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/index.php is great for comparing components, GPUs, CPUs, HDDs, phones etc etc

        • well i just quick search and find an example
if 200aud worth tat 200 more benchmarks for u, it is a great del

    • Did you crank the procesor? I only get 462$ off..

  • They ask you to choose from just about 100 extras? :\
