Not the cheapest it's ever been but pretty close, and Price match at Officeworks to save another 5% if they don't mind that this is the first gen.
The only real difference is the camera, good buy if you don't use this for video calls otherwise I'd spend the extra $10 on Gen 2.

You can get the 2nd gen for same price with TGG/latitude offer if eligible. May have to pay shipping cause for some reasons they don't have stock at all. May be due to recent 10% off with shopback when you could get it for $72 (although wasn't advertised here)
Otherwise jbhifi has plenty of stock, I'd wait for a discount from them (you can also get a lifx for $10) and get the gen 2.
Interesting even Amazon seems to have ran out of stock for the charcoal 2nd gen. Seems to be popular.

  • Go the 2nd gen for $10 extra
I believe it has a newer processor too

I think they have sold out of first stock allocation being it’s still pretty new and waiting on next shipment

    • 2nd gen has newer processor and higher res camera which also follows you. The only issue is night have the zigbee hub of the 10, if they did would have jumped

The one benefit of the first Gen Echo 8 is it has a physical 3.5mm audio out. I was surprised at the new one had lost this.

However, there doesn’t seem to be a way for the internal speaker to work when the audio out is plugged in, so usefulness is limited unless you whatever it’s outputting to is always on.

Anyone buying one … "Alexa turn off screen" is a handy command.

  • "The only real difference is the camera"

I watched a few reviews, and the 2nd gen seems to be alot more smoother and user friendly. It seems the Gen 1 lags (it's getting old) and this seems to have been corrected with the updated processor. At +$10 and not needing 3.5mm jack, I'd go Gen 2
