Howdy

Something a little different. I've dropped the price down on these to take advantage of the current discount code.

Dell Optiplex 7450 AIO
Intel i7 7700 3.60Ghz
32Gb Ram DDR4
512Gb SSD NVME
Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 82 65 (802.11ac) 2x2 + Bluetooth
23.8" FHD with Camera

I've checked a few sample serial numbers (G2DH6Q2) and they state they still have Pro-Support till June 2022

  • Windows 11 upgradable?

    • They have TPM 2.0 and Secure boot so should load up fine.

      • You are correct, not sure what is with the downvotes. I have Windows 11 running on a similar machine with zero issues.

Anything running Windows 10 can be upgraded to Windows 11.

They have "minimum requirement" plastered all over the page.

I don't think i7-7700 is in their compatiability list. You could likely be able to upgrade it by bypassing the requirement check. That said, the gist I am getting from online is that they are basically saying 8th gen Intel processor and up because of the security features.

        • Follow the guide link I provided and you can install with and CPU. I even have Windows 11 running as a vShpere VM on a HP Micro Serve that only has a Celeron. Windows 11 would not install until I used this guide!

          • @LyndonM: I am not saying you cannot bypass the requirements, I am going more, is it worth bypassing the requirements?

MS does state the CPU on this as incompatiable and they do warn against installing Windows 11 on devices that do not meet system requirements.

Btw, I didn't neg your comment.

            • @iridiumstem: I'd like to also share, that, yes it is possible to bypass the checks but it comes at a risk and I personally experienced this. I just upgraded my Win10 to Win11 (running i7-4770) and did all the bypass… so far everything that I usually use/play runs except 1 game. This game is Riot's Valorant and it seems like for this game, if you're running Win11, they will be checking for TPM2.0 and Secure Boot so if you bypassed these checks because your CPU doesn't support it… you might run into more and more of these errors as more software/games have similar security checks built in.

              Edit: So I can't play Valorant on Win11 now… :D damnit…

    • Not officially.
I tried and Microsoft program says the CPU is not supported. (I7-7700)

Also, Dell warns they do not support Win-11 on this model. (Not that I care.)

  • Is the Memory SODIMM form factor or regular UDIMM?

    • It would be SODIMM mate.

  • Shame not the 4k version but looks good for my folks

    • +7

At 24", especially for folks that don't want to deal with scaling issues, FHD is definitely the way to go. Maybe 1440p, but would depend on eyesight.

  • VESA compatible?

    • Yes

  • Is it possible to connect an AIO computer to a second monitor?

    • +3

      From the description:

Video OutPut HDMI + Display Port

      so yes

      • +1

thanks, probably could have checked myself in hindsight!

  • Mmm, be a perfect (overkill) Chromebox…..if only I didn't already have 3 Chromebooks :p

What denotes that these have been "refurbished"? What has been done to refurbish them ?

    • downvoted for a legitimate question? which has had no response…pfft.

    • +3

Assume they checked that they boot and not much else.

I recently bought a few "refurbished" desktops from another seller. One still had an asset tag sticker on it. Another had some sticky crap on it. All were really dusty inside.

    • The word by itself means nothing, but eBay does have a meaning for "Seller refurbished" that it is in excellent condition. So A+ grade.
Should look almost like new. That's what the listing promises anyway :-) The last machine I got from that seller was indeed clean inside and free of visible scratches. So fingers crossed …

      Seller refurbished
The item has been restored to working order by the manufacturer, eBay seller or a third party. This means that the item has been inspected, cleaned and repaired to full working order and is in excellent condition.

      • It arrived, and with a number of large scratches it is OK, but hardly "excellent".

Average for ex-office, not "abused on the factory floor".

  • Tbh looks like a very good price for what is still a capable workstation as long as you don't need dedicated graphics

  • Is this a touch screen IPS panel please?

  • These are GREAT for kids.

    • +2

Nah, these are great for grown-ups.
Kids want something with a graphics-card slot for games.

  • Unfortunately, I don't need one. But definitely a great deal and price.

  • Rep - are these the ones with HDMI in? I believe so (the FHD model) but just want to make sure

    • +2

      Yes

HDMI 1.4 Out (rear), HDMI 1.4 In (rear, Full HD resolution only), DisplayPort 1.2 Out (rear)

      • could it theoretically support output to 2 other monitors for 3 screens total, or is that crazy?

        • I'd say so.

  • Is windows 10 OS included in the price? asking because I don't use windows.

    • +2

Based on the serial number provided they had Windows 10 Home as an OEM preload, so likely to be included and undivorceable from the compute due to the key being baked into the UEFI.

      • Thanks for the info.

      • off course you can divorce it with a new windows 10 pro cdkey. Go System | Change product key or upgrade your edition of Windows.
If you want to re-install windows 10 pro then choose windows 10 pro and the machine will be activated with the previously activated Windows 10 pro cdkey.

  • 32 GB seems like…a lot. To my understanding this would only be beneficial if I were regularly using more than 16GB, is that right?

    • Yep. There is limited need for more than 16GB. Running multiple virtual machines might do it.
Or software development with a test platform. Climate modelling …

      • I have got some pretty big excel documents…

        • +5

Well 32 GB probably nets you at least a whopping three tabs these days in chrome :P

  • Beware! Mine had 3 loose screws rattling around inside.
