SanDisk 120GB Extreme SSD $169.00 + Shipping ($10 Vic Metro, $14-20 Rest of Aus)

Just received this email from Scorptec for a Sandisk 120GB SSD. Cheapest on Staticice and quite a few stores around, good for SE Melb pickup.

I'm sure people are well versed on whether or not this drive is any good. The store page links to these reviews:

I've shopped at Scorptec a few times now - have had 1 warranty claim that was quite smooth.

  • Why would you want this over a Intel 520?
$10-$15 cheaper and you don't really gain anything.

Deal is fine if want sandisk however.

    • Is Intel 520 better in your opinion? are you using it? thanks

      • +1

It is more reliable, in terms of performance they are on par.
        Sandisk - 83000 IOPS
Intel 520 - 80000 IOPS (more with firmware update)

        Price is similar:
        Sandisk - $169 + freight
        Intel - $185 (msy.com.au)

The main reason I like intel is:
-Extremely reliable, less than 0.1% failure rate
        -Very stable firmware versions
-5 year warranty - other companies (2/3 years)

Also scorptec link - more expensive though you might like them.

        • Thanks for your reply.

          I can consider it…
What do you think about Crucial M4 then?

    • Everywhere locally seems to have the Intel 520 $20+ more expensive than this SSD. Given the Sandisk is slightly faster and is also cheaper the only reason not to get it over the Intel is the unknown reliability of Sandisk SSD's.

3 years extra warranty with intel is easily worth $20, either way there are plenty of ssd places selling 120gb sandforce drives @ actual 'bargain' prices :)

The benchmarks posted are for the 240gb model, 120gb performance will be slightly lower in read mb/s and random read IOPS,

Looks like shipping is also a nice flatrate of $12 express and it seems to be Australia wide.
