STA Travel Voucher $50 Flight Discount - Expires 30 Apr 2012

110

This is my first bargain post so let me know if I get something wrong.

Well obviously it's April fools and STA travel has punk'd people by offering a cargo class discount. After putting in your height weight and destination, they admit to this and give you a $50 voucher off flights over $1000 (which can be a lot overseas).

STA has always given $50 off for flights to any international destination above $1000.
There are lots of ways to get this.
    1) Uni orientations - Pop in and ask for a discount card.
    2) Student Edge - Apply for a free student edge card, and it becomes a permanent offer.

  • I am sure most know, but buying from an agent is usually the most expensive way to travel!
eg Booked online - flew to UK for $650 return, 1/3 price of cheapest advance purchase ticket from agent for travel Northern Summer 2010.

    • 650 for a return fare to the UK? Please share your magic with us!

No magic, just flexible travel arrangements, research, & good timing.
As I said - was 2010, so of no use now. Promo for new Air asia route. Just an example of online vs agent fares.

Sometimes ask hard working friends if they have a spare ticket. Got a double return to HK. She had won it in work promo, but was too busy to use it. Besides she flew to China with work regularly, so not her idea of a holiday destination. Skipped up through China & onto Sth Korea for 3 months - quite cheap. So ask around!

Took up the $160 return Scoot deal to Singapore - $100 return flights to Burma is a nice add on for 3 weeks, or cheaper to Vietnam/Cambodia/Loas or Indonesia or Burma for as little as $40 return - all from KL with AirAsia.

Since 2007, usually fly most years to Japan for 1-3 months with Jetstar for $400 return. Travel within Japan is expensive, so I pick a region to explore, returning to try other regions each year. Do the same in Europe & other regions.
(eg Flew to Tokyo for $200 with Jetstar, then straight onto Seoul & Sth Korea for a month as had Mileage points with JAL, so had very cheap return flight from Korea to Okinawa (was much cheaper to fly to Korea and then down to Okinawa), hitched around, got drunk & ate wonderful fresh raw fish with local fishermen, caught a week long ferry ride via little islands up to Kagoshima, slept on the beach & a Shrine, lay around in the hot volcanic waters of a resort Rotenburo on the edge of a cliff beneath active Sakurajima-san as the sun went down, walked in the mountains… and back to Osaka for $180 flight home.)
        I am a cheap traveller.

        • Oops, that was "Indonesia or Borneo (not Burma) for as little as $40 return" (Reading a bit too much about my Burma trip!)
Also TuneTalk SIM are cheap to use in Malaysia & 25c/min to Australia.
