Although the HDR isn't good i'd still get this for the 40 extra Hz,

    • Genuinely curious (Haven't actually used a monitor above 144hz yet)
Is the extra 40hz at that level noticeable and/or justifiable for the extra $20?

    • If you check the posted deal for that, I've demonstrated that the ASUS is a bad monitor. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11413317/redir

Can't speak to this one, because it's not been widely reviewed, but there is such thing as bad 240Hz+ monitors. Likely both of these have too many terrible transitions to be particularly great for competitive gaming.

      • there is such thing as bad 240Hz monitors yes, but combining IPS with good response isn't the worst thing, would be better if it was the 25 inch for example but i've owned bad 240Hz monitors (I get what i deserve lol) and this at this price is a step up from them.

If you don't have the best system for a 1440p 144-165Hz neither is bad

        • It's not good response times though. There are terrible transitions when returning to black, which results in a powdered trailing look.

Not even good IPS is that great for 240Hz. 360Hz IPS barely gets the job done at 240Hz.

          • @jasswolf: thats at full override mode, it has 5 choices which you can have to your preference with less ghosting

            • @DMak92: I'm not referring to overshoot.

              • @jasswolf: either way, the point is at $400 what can you recommend thats better or more efficient.

  • I purchased this model earlier this year, thinking moving from 1440p 144hz LG (1ms) would give me an advantage in FPS. I honestly couldn't tell any difference except that graphics at 1080p after using 1440p for couple of years looks rubbish.

Definitely super fast monitor though. Just not worth the upgrade if you already have 144hz and 1ms response time monitor.

    • There is such a thing as a 240Hz monitor having poor enough response times to make it barely a noticeable change from 144Hz. Most of the sub-$400 240Hz monitors are exactly this.

Don't get sucked in by the spec sheets.

    • My main reason for changing to this is because my current 1440p 144hz is a VA panel and has a lot of ghosting when gaming at 144hz.
So my plan was to migrate to a 1080p IPS panel as 1440p 240hz IPS prices are just ridiculous and out of my reach.

I will be mainly using this monitor when I stream, so there is no downscaling, and frames will match up better with the stream.

1440p 144hz // 1.333x downscale to 1080p and 144hz to 60hz does not look smooth on my stream.
      to
1080p 240hz // Native res with every 4th fram captured should look a lot smoother.

Even without pushing the full 240 frames at 1080p, there should be a setting that is either 120hz or 180hz to make things match up better for the encoder as it does seem to have a hard time encoding my stream to be smooth at 144hz.

  • I Would NEVER recommend a 1080p 27" monitor.
I would sooner settle for 75hz over a mismatched resolution/size monitor.
