Blaupunkt 40" FHD LED LCD Smart TV $279 Delivered @ Australia Post

100

This is the same TV that was at Coles for $299 about a week or two ago, found here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/664075

Can confirm it’s the same model.

Just a crappy cheap TV that’ll probably lag right out of the box, but hey it’s $279 for a 40 inch, worst case scenario just slap a Chromecast or something on it. Oh and get a soundbar too.

Not sure how many are in stock, but I think there are quite a few. I tried adding like 20 to my cart and it seems to let me go through the checkout process.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2021

Or just buy something decent and stop adding to landfill.

If someone is looking to purchase a TV on a tight budget (eg. Student for their dorms, or just for a bedroom/office etc), this is perfectly usable, and if not a Chromecast definitely makes it functionally as sound as any other TV out there.

Also, in terms of hardware lifespan, I’m pretty sure this is comparable to most of the sub-$800 TVs from TCL and Hisense, etc. They’re also just cheap TV OEM manufacturers that slap on different brands (even though they make higher end TVs, their low end offerings are nothing spectacular). So if we’re already going down the bargain route, this is a perfectly justifiable purchase.

Hisense etc are made by relatively better contract manufacturers with relatively more rigorous QA. These are just junk.

        • -3

The panels are more than likely last year or earlier, that's why you buy from a reputable manufacturer, knowing that you can see what panels they are using, you can actually source the panel.
Sure $300 is cheap, but they suggested a soundbar too, just pay more for a decent TV with a reputable manufacturer to start off with.

Hisense doesn't get a good rap here either

I'm sticking to either LG or Samsung

      • I bought 8 years old Panasonic 42“ for $150, it has been working well in the past 3 years. I agree on the landfill and budget concerns, but hey that’s just me :)

Amazing how once quality brands sell off their names to be slapped on the most inferior of products from China

    • -2

Exactly this, buy something that will last, or has a decent warranty than rather will go to landfill.

See my comment above. Everyone has different budgets, not everyone is in the market or able to afford to splurge more for a TV.

Also, consider that TVs generally become obsolete and old before things go wrong with it and you have to toss it. If you really wanted to keep a TV for decades, I’m sure you would do it regardless of whether or not it’s a $300 TV or a $1000 one. And if you were set on upgrading to the latest and greatest in a few years (which many people do), then your argument about this going to the landfill applies to most other sub $1000 TVs that are plenty cheap and replaceable.

Sorry comparing a $300 tv to a $900 and saying they're the same quality has no basis what so ever when it comes to same size and build quality.

          EDIT https://www.harveynorman.com.au/hisense-40-inch-a4g-fhd-led-…

With a 3 year warranty for $395 compared to 1 year warranty.
          Hisense is reputable too.

@[Deactivated]: Hisense and TCL (just for examples) are popular brands here in that price point. They’re just OEM manufacturers and are actually not highly regarded at all in other markets (say in Canada/US). I am willing to bet money on this lasting just as long as any sub-$1000 TV you can find from JB hifi from the likes of brands such as Hisense/TCL/Soniq/Ffalcon etc. Sure, their higher price offering may be able to compete with cheaper TVs from say Samsung/LG. But there’s absolutely nothing to suggest their budget TVs are any better in quality than this.

            • @Dr Fruit: You are saying that a $900 tv would not better a $300 tv in the same size? you clearly do not know what you are talking about.

              https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-p725-43-4k-uhd-led-an…

4K with DV and Atmo, $595.

              https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hisense-a7g-43-4k-uhd-led…

And you're saying the $300 tv will compete with this in quality? Sure ok.

              • @[Deactivated]: I think you misunderstand what I mean by quality and contradict your own argument earlier. You’re saying how this would end up in the landfill presumably because of poor quality. I’m saying that build quality-wise, this would last as long as any in that category.

By 4k, Dolby, etc, I think you’re talking about features. If that’s the case, then sure, there are plenty of better TVs. But find me one with better ”quality” then for $279. Heck, find me another 40 inch TV for $279.

                • @Dr Fruit: No I am talking about quality of the panel, ie from a reputable manufacturer, you don't know what panel the Blau uses, but we know what Hisense uses, and the panels that differ all add to a quality too.
4K is a quality panel measurable by wait for it, PQ.
This has a 1 year warranty, what happens if it fails, ACCC? they wont do anything because of the price point.
Spend more and get something better, simple.

Just a crappy cheap TV that’ll probably lag right out of the box, but hey it’s $279 for a 40 inch, worst case scenario just slap a Chromecast or something on it. Oh and get a soundbar too.

So buy 2 more additional things when you could just buy a better TV overall?

  • +1

You won't need to "slap a Chromecast on it" it already has one built in

    • +1

Someone correct me if wrong, but I think that’s built into/integrated with the TV’s androidTV 9.0 OS? And dependent on the TV’s chip performance, and thus why there are lag issues?

Slapping an external Chromecast onto it will certainly resolve any lag issues. Basically using it as a screen, not relying on the TV’s actual ability to run programs.

The built in smart features are very sluggish hence the dedicated smart box recommendation

  • Does it have a headphone jack? Are the speakers muted when headphones are plugged in?

  • Anyone know how this compares with kogan
