is there an RRP on refurb goods?

    • +2

Yeah it’s misleading. OP makes it sound like a bargain by saying it’s reduced to $99 because of Black Friday. Let’s me honest, it’s reduced to $99 because it’s a used one.

      • +2

The listed RRP is bollocks aswell, $194.30 brand new on Umart https://www.umart.com.au/Dell-D3100-4K-USB-3-0-Docking-Stati…

These guys needs to read https://www.accc.gov.au/business/pricing-surcharging/display…

'Depending on individual circumstances, businesses using statements such as 'savings' or 'discounts' when comparing a sale price to the recommended retail price (RRP) may be misrepresenting potential savings if the product has never been sold at the RRP or the RRP does not reflect a current market price.'

      • We can understand where this may have been misleading.

As stated, the MSRP would have been derived from Dell's suggested price (currently still displayed as $309).

Given that this may not be indicative of current pricing in the market we have reduced the RRP accordingly and made it clearer in the description of the item.

This deal was made exclusively for our Black Friday Sales, we are a leading supplier of refurbished IT Equipment and these docking stations are no different.

        Thank you for your understanding.

        • It's absolutely misleading because you're comparing the savings of a refurbished unit to a brand new one at RRP. In this case, the RRP you've stated is not market price.

          • @Ebaygiftcards: As mentioned, we've made it clear throughout the listing and this post that the Docking Station is 'Refurbished.'

We've also made clear in the description; the RRP and our Refurbished Price.

Customers can search up the model for themselves and see the retail prices in comparison to our Black Friday Sale of $99.

Why is this a refurb instead of simply being second hand? What refurbishment process has the device been through?

    • +1

They put them in new boxes maybe…

    • +1

What refurbishment process has the device been through?

I suspect being advertised as such.

    • a lot of refurb, you'd be lucky if they cleaned them with spray and wipe…

    • “Deep” cleaning

    • So just going to ignore my question hey rep?

    • We have a dedicated Tech Team which perform quality checks on the Docking Stations before being packed by us.

Second hand won't provide you with a 1 Year Warranty.

The Dell D3100 USB 3.0 Docking Station can support maximum resolution of:

    • Display Port 1.1 = 3840x2160 @ 30 Hz
    • HDMI 1.4 = 2560x1440 @ 50 Hz

    Triple Display Display Port 1: 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz, HDMI 2: 2048 x 1152 @ 60, HDMI 3: 2048 x 1152 @ 60

    • DisplayLink based technology, so there is limitation (and you need to install driver software).

    • does this mean if I want 2 monitors displaying 4k I need to use both display port?

      • There's only one Displayport, two HDMIs. 2 x 4K isn't possible.

        • So the best I would be able to get is 1 at 4k via Display then with HDMI 2560x1440?

          • @johnthepg: The supported resolution matrix table is somewhat useful. The bottom line is this:

            • If you don't mind 4K @ 30Hz and 2K @ 50Hz, then you could do what you want suggested. Do make sure your monitor supports 50Hz though, otherwise you might be looking at 30Hz.
            • If you want 60Hz, basically, your choice is DisplayPort 2K@60Hz and HDMI ports 1080p@60Hz.

There is a reason why these USB-A DisplayLink based docks are no longer popular, as we start to look at 4K, USB 3.0 simply doesn't have enough bandwidth.

  • The page says both 3-month warranty and 1-year warranty. It also doesn't make it glaringly obvious that it's not a new item.

    • Updated. Thanks for the heads up!
