The Amazon deal was cheaper with Shopback's 10% cashback but only if purchased between 6pm and 8pm. I bought one and happy with the price.

    • And it was possible to stack the Amazon deal with the Amex Statement Credit and discounted Amazon gift cards.

    • From Amazon UK $199.35. Free shipping with Prime

      • Be careful with ASUS UK/EU routers. 2.4ghz has lower power and 5ghz is missing several channels vs AU stock. The power/channel limitations are hard coded so no way around them and can create problems depending on your setup.

        • I am not so sure, i got uk version and it's flying , maybe if I was running a business and guest wifi but for my home, no issues

          • @botchie: The NBN here is too slow for this to matter

            • @congo: well yeah, if your on 250 it wont matter - maybe on 1 tb and 100s devices sure….but point being that ppl just copy and paste this uk routers missing c band as an issue when it wont affect 99% of ppl and you can grab one for 50% less then here in AU

  • Can this run the merlin OS? Good price

  • Ive had the 68u for about 8 years now, it's still good for my purposes, I have a PC, ps5, couple ipads and phones, should I consider upgrade?

it's still good for my purposes

I think you've answered your own question. Personally, i'd wait and buy an AX router once you have more devices support it.

Damn - I'm in the same position as m0usju1c3. Cancelling my order. Was thinking that I would setup AiMesh but I can get by without it.

      • Cheers for the sound advice man, it's amazing that this 68u has done an amazing job all this time, I guess there just hasn't been ground breaking advancements as yet.

AX or Wifi 6 is certanly an improvement - however you also need your devices to have wifi 6 too to make it work as intended

          • @Headless: Are there any improvements in terms of latency on wireless 6?

              • +1

@Headless: Thank you so much that was a perfect illustration of real world usage comparison between WiFi 5 and WiFi 6!

            • @m0usju1c3: Depends on how many devices you have, 10 ish and you are ok with 5, more then and you should go for 6

@botchie: Where does this recommendation come from? It won't do anything if none of your clients are wifi 6 capable. I have 56 clients on wifi 5 mesh and only 1 is wifi 6 capable.

I found this a good read:
                https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26249175

                • @bargainshooter: yes that's true as well, if devices dont have 6 they can use the speeds but wifi 6 is not all about the speed
good way to look at it is
                  cable internet vs nbn
both have 100 mb download speed but when you are on nbn you have less congestion and lag the more devices that connect to it
if your 56 clients hit your speed limit on wifi 5 you will feel it, with 6 you would have more bandwidth for them to use
that's my understanding anyway, I am no pro at this and could be wrong
