  • I wonder if I can control the Duct-ed aircon's zone controller with this device. I have "2 zone" zone controller (upstairs, downstairs) which is a light switch basically with 2 buttons. But what I noticed is 3 cables get connected to each button. One cable is load (240v), and other 2 are connected to open and close terminals. So regardless of the position of the switch button is, zone damper gets 240v. This is not on/off config. Switch button is up, 240v goes to zone damper, Switch button is down, 240v goes to zone damper. This is kind of "here you have 240v so open the damper" and "here another source of 240v so close the damper".

    • That sounds like a basic 240v powered switching relay. I haven't used Shelly switch relay before but it seems like in theory it should work. Now the thing I am not sure about off the top of my head is whether you need two of these Shelly 1 relays (or single dpdt relay) to make this happen.

      • DPDT relay could be the answer. It says "Change motor direction with DPDT relay" in below link. I believe this is what's happening when press the button up and down. It is changing the motor direction thus opening and closing the damper.

        https://www.electroschematics.com/dpdt-switch-relay/

        • you wouldn't be able to do what you're requesting with only the shellys. from your post above it looks like it uses both the normally open and closed contacts which the shelly doesn't have, it only has normally open contacts (depending on your configuration). you could use a few of them and "sync" them up and have them programmed to be normally closed but you'd be using quite a few devices

          • @peter05: I can do it with 2 per each button and control them with automations, however, from my experience, automations are not 100% like physical switches. There are occasions automation doesn't trigger due to hub being sleeping or other network issue (HomeKit with latest Apple TV as hub). Rare occasions but happens. I used to use an iPad as hub when I was having a lot of automation issues. Mostly resolved after started using Apple TV as hub.

            • @wrx5: probably best to find another solution i think as the purpose of these is that you retain your physical switches. if you're needing both positions then i think there would be other products that would suit your needs better.

that's not to say that you can't rewire or reconfigure it to work with the shellys but that would be more involved than just simply retrofitting one of these in.

completely doable but those times when the mrs calls because your automation is not working is where shelly is a lifesaver as you still have the physical switch :D

    • I'm very new to the Shelly products, just bought my first Shelly 1 last week to connect to one of my garage roller doors as a test (which worked an absolute treat).
I found this vid very useful in explaining what all the different models do / can be used for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJFSI81m5wo

  • Well that makes for an easy decision…

  • +1

Another question: does this work with Apple HomeKit?

    • He answered that in the description.

      • ohh yes I missed it. But looks like it is not native, only by flashing. I wonder how easy or hard the flashing.

        • I flashed mine to this: https://github.com/mongoose-os-apps/shelly-homekit

It was amazingly simple and it runs pretty well flawlessly. My wife loves having the garage door button pop up in CarPlay when she gets a street or so away from our house.

The only real problem I had was the power output from my garage door cuts out when the door button is activated (causing the Shelly to reboot). I ended up cutting the plug off an old 12V PSU and wiring it in.

  • Are you guys clearing this stock for the new Shelly Plus 1? Any ETA of when the new ones will be in?

    • Hey,

This is not a clearance - we have been advised the Shelly 1 will continue to be produced for the foreseeable future. The 1 Plus is undergoing certification and will be available but we cannot provide an ETA at this stage.

  • Instead of just an on/off switch, can I hook it up to a ye olde wall mounted controller box for a ceiling fan to control ceiling fan speed?

    • +1

no, this one is a single relay on/off. your fan speed controller doesn't turn on/off when going through the variable speeds. depending upon the load etc it varies electrical properties of the circuit

  • can this one make a dumb person smarter?

  • Looks like OzSamrt Things has this for less.

    • A bit concerned purchasing off a site called OzSamrt Things.

      $12.99ea + $9.99 shipping fee.

      • Sorry! Here you go champ: https://www.ozsmartthings.com.au/

        • I compared a bulk order and was $20 cheaper with them. Thanks

          • @Nerdybobo: Please elaborate.
What did you order, what amount, how much?

            • @StevieRay: 2x shelly dimmers,
              6x shelly 2.5 double relays
              17x shelly 1 wifi switch

              $480.75

Compared to $497 I think it came to with smartguys

  • Had an issue with a shelly dimmer. Contacted smart guys and they never responded. Just my 2c I experienced with after sales support with these guys

    • Hey,

Really sorry about that, we can only say that the email was lost in our inbox. We do offer the 12 month warranty so please email us again and we will arrange a refund/replacement.

      Regards,
      The team @SmartGuys

    • Also had a dimmer issue, support was great. Couple of emails back and forth, determined was faulty and they sent out a replacement (also offered a refund if I preferred).

  • I only want/need 5 but I still want to save $10. Anyone in Brisbane wanna go halves in the 10pack? =)

    • PM sent!

    • @StevieRay @Ghostbenedict Do you guys have a good sparky you can recommend to install these, and what are the rough costs?

  • Been meaning to give these a go (still a little unsure what for or how), but took the plunge with 5.

  • I've purchased from these guys before - no issues. Currently using the Shelly 1 to control my garage door.
Looking / hoping for some deals on Shelly 2.5 / Shelly Button / Shelly WiFi Flood Sensor.

  • +1

$13/each with no minimum quantity at Oz Smart Things but $10 shipping. Cheaper if you want more than one but less than ten.

  • Might a dumb question…would this be able to be picked up by the meross app?

Ive got security shutters which I'd like to control, already have lighting and garage door via meross (which is integrated into google home)

    • These won't go into Meross, but can be added to Google Home

      • Whats the key differences between shelly 1 and shelly 2.5?

I can probably live without meross, but the application is for roller shutters.

        • The Shelly 2.5 has two relay channels - so you can use it to control a 2 gang light switch with the one device. It also supports control of roller shutters.

  • Wont let me order more than 5 now?

    • Must have added more stock, just ordered 10.

  • I've read some posts about overheating, especially on the dimmer module. OP, have you had many overheating reports on the Shell 1?

    • This can happen with certain types of load on the Dimmer when used incorrectly. With the Shelly 1, this is not an issue that we have ever had reported to us as it is just a dry contact relay.

  • Zigbee devices when?

  • We were looking to automate some light switches but I couldn't figure out if I needed the Shelly 1 or Shelly 1L due to the lack of neutral. I asked a sparky for a quote and they didn't know either so the quote obviously came out a bit more and we got put off.

Does anyone know for standard single and dual-gang light switches (Clipsal Prestige P2000 series) if the Shelly 1 would work for them or we'd be better off with the Shelly 1L so that the sparky won't need to rewire to include the neutral?

    Thanks.

  • Just becareful guys. I have a few shelly devices and the app is just so clunky and hard to use.

  • So got an email to check account for order status.
    Status is: CHEW

Ummmm. What is that supposed to mean/stand for regarding order delivery status?

    • Send us a email. All our orders have now been dispatched. We can follow yours up if you have not received shipping notification from Shippit.
