Combining with the $500 gift card obtained earlier on the JB HiFi Telstra deal, this is a grab!
Love this machine. Great price.
Is this machine really that good?
How does it compare to my current Barista Express which has been running superbly for the past 2 years.
My only issue with my current machine is that it does take a good 3-5 minutes to brew a cup of coffee (Cappuccino), would this machine brew coffees quicker? Also, how does it perform when preparing multiple coffees? it's currently an absolute nightmare brewing more than one coffee with my current machine - I think it's not intended to make too many coffees at the same time due to current thermal/boiler setup/limitation.
Appreciate any advice/insights.
Cheers
I don't own one, but I've been reading up on it and watching videos. It's a dual boiler and it auto-tamps. So when you grind, it comes out consistently tamped, ready to go. And you can be doing milk at the same time. That's going to make it much faster to make coffees.
You seem to answer your own question!! I also have Barista Express for almost 3 years & running strong, but to add to your list, the Barista pressure gauge OPV is set way too high, so it produce bitter coffee, it should be @ 9bar (there is some hacks to modify it but fiddly). This Oracle has auto grind, auto tamp, auto milk froth, dual boiler so can brew / steam same time, back to back multiple coffee and easier menu. I just ordered Eureka grinder, otherwise would have bought this Oracle for $1799
For me the speed to make the coffee is very enticing, but looks like the clean up is still the same. Only bonus to cleanup is the auto-purge of the steamwand.
Waiting for a deal on the Barista Pro.

Bejesus! This product for pro or domestic use? At $1799, this makes it on special?
coffee snobs could easily spend more on a grinder and machine. biggest thing with australian consumer appliances brands is the longevity but it sounds as if this machine is pretty robust, well designed and feature packed all in one package. you can make great coffee for far far cheaper though because freshly roasted and ground beans is the most important part of a good cuppa
I've read comments from people that you will have to do a $500 service every 5 years or some, some say it only lasts 5 years then may have major issues and can't be repaired. If it lasts 5 years I'm probably happy, maybe I have too much spare cash…
my well designed but poorly handbuilt little italian lever has gottten me a decade so far with only a heater element change and a few sets of seals outside of the year warranty, that and a mazzer was a little over the cost of this deal. Id consider the oracle but do all your own work to it.
@abuch47: The Italian ones are definitely going to last longer but yeah they won't have the features. The Breville is more bang for your buck, until it breaks.
It's a bargain, selling for nearly $2500 at other stores just different colour..
This seems to be a special colour they bring back for specials to avoid direct comparisons / price match against their standard line. The stainless steel or matte black colours are a bit nicer to look at, but not worth paying half a grand extra for in what is otherwise an identical machine (similar goes for the touch screen version at +$700 or so vs the normal oracle, and a massive +$1300 vs this guy). Pick one up while you can…I set mine up this arvo and it seems to work very nicely.
I've been wondering about the colour thing, I was thinking they are just phasing out 'black sesame' to bring in the new 'black truffle' colour, they probably look the same anyway though
I have store credit at Harvey Norman, but unfortunately they dont have this colour in stock
Get red. It will be faster
Combine with 15% off (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/664735) and seems it should get you pretty close to the $1500 mark which is about as low as I can find over the last year or 2. Pity it's black, wife doesn't think it matches the kitchen…
Haha ill have to try my luck getting 18 x $100 cards.
Oh that's annoying, I was considering this deal but having to buy so many $100 gift cards is putting me off, is there a limit to how many gift cards you can use in store?
Its a good question, I've used about 6 before at JB but you'd prob have to enquire with them about if there's a limit…
@akura: Ten here
I'm not a fan of the black, but my wife likes it. Lucky, because if it was her that didn't like the colour, we wouldn't be able to get it!
I'd hate to buy 18 x $100 gift cards and then they don't accept it…
Well I've got my 18 gift cards ready to go for tomorrow, hope the sale doesn't end or they sell out!
can confirm you can pay with gift cards so another 15% off is possible.
JB HiFi have further discounted this machine by $100 to $1699!
can also claim the breville bonus
This model isn't listed in the actual claim form, how did you do it?
I claimed it under BES980BTR, took about 10 minutes for approval email to come through.
Just entered in the form that I bought the other black model. Honest mistakeā¦ was approved in about half an hour.
Did anyone receive any of the gift from the promo? My registration was approved on 22nd Nov and so far no further communication on when gifts will be sent.
Haven't received any updates also
This is probably the best deal considering you can get JB eligible gift cards at a discount.
