These were $1140 (delivered) from Dell eBay back in Jan this year.
    300 nits brightness

  • Can't decide between this and the XPS 13. Specs seem similar. Build quality and screen size the only difference? XPS worth the extra money?

    • +1

Depends on your priorities, the Dell XPS speakers seem to be gold standard for windows laptops according to LTT; the screens have a higher nit at 500 so much better to use outside if that's your use case

    • +2

Spend the extra and get the XPS 13, the screen and build quality are superb. These, not so much.

      • Thanks guys, XPS 13 it is.

      • The build quality on the 7306 is very good. Solid, not much flex. The screen is plenty for indoors. I run at about 80% brightness most of the time. Outdoors it's not suitable for direct sunlight, but it's manageable if you're in the shade.

I actually have more of an issue with the engineering. I have stability issues across four of these. Dell has definitely cut back on software/driver dev. But $1200 for a laptop of this spec is still very good.

Also have a look at the IdeaPad Slim 5 Pro Gen 6 14". You can snag them for super cheap on the LenovoEdu store front. Example Build: Ryzen 8c 5800U 16GB Ram 16:10 QHD IPS 300nits 100% sRGB full metal construction can be had for around $1290. Can even get it down to $1110.60 if you spec it down to a 5600U. The keyboard and trackpad are not as premium as my XPS15 but are great for this price point.

    • I bought the Inspiron 15 Plus Laptop from the Dell website yesterday and got it down to $1144.90 (incl cash rewards). i5-11400H / RTX 3050 / 512gb / 8GB (just need to add more) / and 100% sRGB apparently. Haven't owned a Dell before but hoping this is good value.

Just pulled the trigger on the XPS 13 2 in 1 UHD for $1999.
For what it offers at that price point, hard to say no.
Touch screens are especially helpful in senior Secondary/tertiary settings.

    • Are you connecting to an external monitor? I'm looking at one of these too, but the dock is out of stock, and can't determine how to connect up monitor and keyboard and power without a dock or hub.

Also getting dumbfounded about max refresh rates achievable through docks or hubs, unsure if the 2721dgf will be hobbled if the video goes through a dock or hub.

Any advice from anyone is welcomed!

      • Can't help with docks. Kid has a full desktop set-up and will be using One Drive to go between. Necessary evil to prevent against work loss in Year 12 🙄

        • Thanks anyway. BTW, you said UHD for $1999 above - isn't the $1999 model FHD?
          EDIT: Ah, discount!

You can use usb c docking.
        Wd19s,wd 19tbs,da 310. You can use hp g5 docking.

        • Thank you!

Any suggestions on a work from home laptop around the 1000$ mark? Prefer Dell. Mostly running crystal reports. TIA

As I posted above, have a look at the IdeaPad Slim 5 Pro Gen 6 14". You can snag them for super cheap on the LenovoEdu store front. • Many thanks mate ! Hope the IdeaPad Slim 5 Pro is of good build and performance. What will be its equivalent in Dell ?

  • This model can compatible to a pen?
My daughter's school needs a Windows laptop with a pen for designing, not sure which one is good for high school students.

    • Depends on your budget.

      • round $1000 - $1500

          Go mac lol

          • @HolyCr4p: What macbook has a touchscreen and pen? Also, they specify needing a Windows laptop.

            • @jamesorion: You can use additional wacom for drawing on mac or buy normal windows laptop then add wacom.

        • Mac is better for designing or drawing using adobe .
If you want windows, you can search lenovo, asus, hp , msi or surface pro.

          • @HolyCr4p: For using Adobe apps I don't see how you can say Mac is better. Macs are very popular among creative types, but I've never had an issue using PS, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc on Windows.

That said, my partner now does all her drawing using Procreate on her iPad Pro.

    • In the last 2 years, I have had both a Dell 7000 series and a Lenovo Flex 5. Both came with Pens. Using both devices in my case, was like day and night. I only use it to tutor and draw chemical structures and found the Dell 7000 series to be useless for the task. It still works, I just found it poor to write on. The flex 5 is very decent to write / draw on. It's not as good as say the surface book, but it's a fraction of the price. If you choose to buy dell, just make sure your daughter checks it out in the first month so you can return if it doesn't suit. You could also ring JB-HIFI and see if they have any surfacebooks or pros with pens to compare. I strongly suggest considering Lenovo's 2 in 1 laptops. I also suggest going to the education portal for both dell and Lenovo as you can score some great discounts for students

      • great suggestion, Thanks.

        • No worries. Hope you find what you are looking for. Another suggestion is checking out reviews on YouTube. There is heaps of tech videos that review the functionality of daily pen use on laptops.

I have this laptop and would suggest checking before hand if it's dual channel. Check out this video for comparison.

Overall I am happy with the performance but I don't feel the laptop will be very durable in long run.Not the best build quality imo specially the hinge feels flimsy. Ask me any questions if you need.

  • How easy is to return these laptop so I can purchase the Dell Xps 13 2 in 1 FHD for an extra $200 ?
