HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset for PS4 and PS5 $49 (Was $149) + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Scorptec

440

Part of their Click Frenzy deals. Same price as the previous Centre Com deal that was popular. Note that this is the PS4/PS5 version but can be used for PC by plugging the 3.5mm jack (NOT USB). Some PC users may require a splitter as it is a combined mic/audio jack.

Mic can be detached which is nice, and from other reviews the mic is louder than the PC version of this headset.

This is part of Click Frenzy deals for 2021

Good price, although you'd be crazy to pick it up for $149 when the Cloud Alpha can often be had for that price (which has better sound quality, and detachable cable as well as mic, handy for those of us with kids who kill cables regularly)

Cloud Alpha has 60 Ohm impedance (compared to this one at 41 Ohm) so the Alpha may not be loud enough for some when powered by the controller.

If you're going up to that price bracket, might as well start considering the Steel Series Arctis 7 or similar (got mine for $170 on sale). Full wireless, no latency issues, good sound.

The Arctis line have… less than stellar tuning, very sharp and piercing treble with a high-bass boost that bloats the mids (obscuring footsteps in FPS games etc), subpar stage even for closed back but at least decent imaging - I would actually consider this Cloud PS4 on sale to have noticably better audio quality (I've heard the Cloud II / PS4, Arctic 7/Pro Wireless in person, and would rank ii = ps4 > 7 > pro). Wireless is nifty though.

Good price, on eBay it's around $55 with coupon

  • Does anyone know how do these compare to the ps pulse 3d headphones?

Playstation will not output virtual surround except to Sony Playstation headphones (unless there's a rare exception like the Mobius doing LDAC for example).

Therefore the only way to have virtual surround is through a reciever although I'm not sure if this is the same as Sony's "3D sound processing" for the PS5 which I don't know much about.

      • +1

Not true at all, their 3D audio engine works with any headphones, and these are way better than the Pulse 3Ds

    • FWIW I feel like the audio sounds better via headphones with 3D audio off although YMMV depending on personal taste

    • Sound quality (technical and tuning) wise far better, soundstage wise decently better but slightly worse in the imaging department. Would take these anyday unless you can somehow EQ the pulse 3d and can get them for cheaper. 3D audio is usually competitively worse than stereo since it actually reduces the accuracy of what you hear - it splits the two stages into multiple smaller ones that don't work as well as the original.

I absolutely hate the inline audio control on these, it is super sensitive and gets adjusted with any sort of movement. The cable is also not shielded so if you have your phone nearby it creates a clicking through the mic, which is very annoying for the people on the other end. Other than that these are actually pretty good headphones, sound and mic are not bad for $50

    • Is this with the boom mic or is there something on the inline audio controls?
Can the audio cable be unplugged and swapped?

      • pretty sure its 2 separate issues the sensitivity of the wheel I just find that I often move and accidently turn the volume all the way up or all the way down. The clicking through the mic I assume is some sort of electrical interference, as ppl complain about it when I talk and just have to make sure I move my phone away from the cord.

        • I've used these for a couple of weeks and I haven't had either issue. Maybe other owners can chime in if your might just be a dud.

The PS5 controller does have a super loose headphone jack which is so annoying. I'm surprised more people don't complain about that.

          • @Team America: I guess its certainly a possibility that I got a dud one, keen to hear from other users

    • The hardware controls work well on mine - it's nice and stiff, and there are microphonics but no interference on the cable. It's weird they didn't just use the inline controls to send a signal to the device like everyone else instead of having a hardware encoder though. Sound is pretty incredible for $50, easily better than most of the $150-200 gaming headsets on tuning alone, but yeah lacking in some areas such as build quality. You might want to consider RMAing yours, interference and loose wheel isn't normal and shouldn't be happening.

      • Yea cheers will do!

    This or sony wh-1000xm3?

    • +1

WH series does not work with PS4,5.

    • +1

They arent really comparable. The sonys dont have a proper boom mic but are better and more expensive in every other respect on top of being noise cancelling wireless (unless you want to game).

    • Like what others have said, you'd probably be using them differently. XM3 probably would be something to listen to music to, for example on your daily commute where you might occasionally answer a call. This headset is primarily for gaming, where a better mic may be needed but probably not the headset for audiophiles.

    • These sound better, the xm3 is wireless and has far better isolation and amazing ANC. Source: Have both next to me

If these are still just Takstar Pro 80 studio monitors with HyperX branding on them, this is a great deal. Had my Cloud Cores for years and loved them.

  • i already have the 3d pulse for my ps5, but would these be better for games like call of duty?

    • You can't go wrong having a spare, but the pulse would prb have the edge.

    • Are the 3d pulse particularly bad for you? my mate has those and does well on cod, hasnt noted any issues or frustrations with hearing other player's position etc. I had the pulse before I changed over to the Arctis 7, and didn't feel there was any noticeable difference in performance either. My change was moreso for practicality (the wireless puck on the Arctis allows a second audio line input for dual audio feed, i.e. from the PC while playing on the PS).

Playstation will not output virtual surround except to Sony Playstation headphones.

Which is usually an advantage in competitive FPS.

    • These should be a lot better in terms of recognizing sound and separating types of sound, as the pulse are tuned quite badly (subbass is… not there, treble looks like the frequency response graph had an earthquake), and these have a decently wider soundstage, but the pulse might have a edge on positional imaging.

  • imo hyperx pioneered many gaming headset sound signature nowadays, back then it was like max out bass with little to no mids and flat treble. nowadays most gaming headsets have a V sound signature.

  • $13 delivery to metro, if anyone else was wondering.

  • Bought these myself from last time they were on sale for $49 at Centrecom. Pretty dissapointed in them when i tested them as they sounded worse than my old cloud core.
For playing video games and such they were alright but listening to music and video it didn't sound very pleasent.
I was using this for PC not console.

  • How much a Pulse 3D? I guess I got little choice on PS5.

Maybe Black Friday sale on Amazon?

  • Any pros or cons to connecting to PC via headphone jack as opposed to USB?

    • No it works well

    • No, but avoid front panel as those tend to have a significantly worse noise floor and at times degraded quality - use the rear ports instead.

are these wholly compatible with xbox?

  • loved my cloud alphas until i ran over the cable with my chair one too many times and ruined the pads
