NBN hfc compatible ? Using an old modem supplied by aussiebroadband but range is woeful and not convinced gett8ng best out of 250 plan

    • +1

Yep plug in the Netgear into the nbn NTD.

  • from their site in comments: "Yes, this router is NBN ready. Please note that this is only a standalone router, as such the supplied modem by your ISP is still required. Please note that in order to have this router to work with your existing modem, additional steps to configure the router may be required."

    • ISP modem is only required for FTTN and FTTB or if you use VoIP from select ISPs. If you don't plug in the Netgear into the nbn NTD or nbn NCD.

      • FTTN user here :) Any suggestions for a netgear router with similar specs with inbuild modem?

        • Nothing from Netgear. TP-Link and AVM Fritzbox VDSL2 modems are good for FTTN.

    This is cheap!

  • Will this have enough coverage for a 3bdr unit? Or is it better to go with google nest and the likes?

    • +1

So long as it's central (which you can achieve using a pair of EoP plugs, if your internet doesn't enter the house centrally) then, odds are very good it'll be perfect. :)

  • Was looking at Asus routers for ability to load a vpn and their AI protection. Would this be comparable for what I'm looking for?

  • Thanks op
I bought it purely for the DUMA!

  • Is it just me or is this stupid cheap?

    • +1

Even cheaper when you get $50 back from Click Frenzy

      • +1

How dk you get this $50?

      • How's that work?

        • +4

I get $50 off every event they have! Very good. See here and here

@I Smell Pennies: Interesting, have joined up now as well. If you get the cashback, that makes this an unbelievable deal :)

            • +1

@happykamper: as long as you're one of the 1000 people. There have been times where I've uploaded my receipt at 2am and still made it - - looks like many don't know or arent interested. There was a counter last time on how many redemptions are left.

              • +1

@I Smell Pennies: Cool. Yeah I signed up and purchased this router to use for wireless Virtual Desktop on the Quest 2. Hopefully we're in the first 1K. Thanks for the heads up 🙂

              • @I Smell Pennies: thanks for the tip - i also signed up and uploaded a receipt. curious to know, do you get confirmation that you're one of the first 1000 and eligible for the $50?

  • Thanks JJJ, been waiting for a good deal on a router!

  • Thanks a bunch OP. Been using the Nighthawk R7000 for a number of years and its been playing up rather badly as of late.

  • Is this worth twice the money as something like an AX1800? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/657907

  • Should I wait for wifi 6E router?

    • +1

Depends how patient you are, and perhaps how senior.

      • And how deep your wallet is.

  • How do I use this? I have NBN FTTN with the shitty modem that is supplied by TPG. We have 3 people WFH and the signal is bad. Does this replace thay modem or is this used in some other way? I need better signal but I have no experience with meshing and whatnot. Most of these acronyms make no sense to me.

    • +1

It won't replace the modem; FTTN still needs a separate modem for a router to work. If it has a bridge mode, set it to that then connect it to the router's WAN port. Otherwise, set up the router in Access Point mode and disable your FTTN modem's wifi.

      • Thanks for the reply, I have the TPG VR1600V, if I put it into bridge mode I lose VoIP capability which I think we need for work.

Would using it as an AP still allow VoIP capability that do you think?

        • Using the Netgear configured as the Wi-Fi access point allows you to use VoIP from TPG.

      • Do I even need VoIP? We just need to call ppl via Teams and sometimes to mobile numbers through the work network.

        • Nah you don't. Teams is done over the internet.

Price beat at officeworks online $246.05 delivered 😃

    • same, happy camper here!

    • +6

Ended up getting it for $161.50 delivered.
I think the officeworks phone person made a fortuitous mistake ha!

    • Just did the same thing due to your comment, however he wanted to charge $14 shipping as that's what Scorptec charges, so now I have to pickup instead.

      • +1

Free shipping from Scorptec for orders over $200 at the moment

        • Damn.. Officeworks wins this time

    This or the Asus RT-AX86U
yes i know the 86 is much more expensive
just deciding if i should hold off and if the Asus is much better?

    • Thinkin about the same thing.

  • how is this compare to Xiaomi AX6000?

    • Superior LAN speed and OS, lacking the 2.5G port tho, I have a 8 port 2.5g switch which is not a problem for me, but both missing Lan aggregation features

  • Is this worth getting if I already have a TP-LINK Archer VR2800 with a fttn connection?

    • Probably not. Do you have any problems?

  • back to $479 now! is it done?

    • Yeah its $479 for me too. I missed out :(

      • you still looking for one? PM me if youre in Sydney

  • Thanks OP, really good value! especially with the 50 cash back

    • Is that including the PLUSTCH code for 15% off?

  • I tried looking around, but can't find if this will work with Optus NBN HFC? Can someone confirm? Do I have to just swap with the optus Sagecom router? Thanks

    • Why wouldn't it work?. I was with Optus cable for two decades and on Monday they terminated my connection. Signed up with Superloop and they're sending out a technician to install the internal cabling and give me the connection box in order to connect the router.

Since it's a HFC connection i won't need a modem. This deal came at the perfect moment as i was going to purchase an older router(Asus RT-AC86U) instead.

      • Actually the nbn connection box is a HFC DOCSIS 3.1 modem.

    • Netgear is compatible with Optus nbn HFC.

To keep automatic 4G fail over and VoIP.

      1. Plug in Netgear to the Sagemcom LAN port.
      2. Configure Netgear as the Wi-Fi access point.

If you don't care about automatic 4G fail over and VoIP.

      1. Remove Optus modem
      2. Wait at least 30 minutes.
      3. Get the ethernet cord coming from the nbn NTD and plug it into the internet port on the Netgear.
      4. When the Netgear router asks does my ISP use a login? pick no.
  • Wait guys I got FTTC does this router work with that?

  • I have 40 ish devices including 30+ IoT and lots of them uses reserved static IP. I got this router, set it all up and it somehow reverted to factory settings overnight. Did a setup again next morning and this time its holding up. I however had to restart the router once because it lost internet connectivity. Not off to a great start but hopefully no more hiccups.

Been using Amplifi HD for over two years without any issue. Upgraded to this for better range and control.
