I hate that small motherboard. Can you consider including MSI B550-A pro instead? I have additional PCI-E card and it would go to waste with the B550m motherboard as there's no space to install it after graphic card.

    • +2

Yeah like, could it really be that hard to switch the PCIe x16 and M.2s positions? If MSI can do it on the Mortar MAX and offer it for $90 then Gigabyte can do it too.

    • There're 3 pcie slots on this this board, if the gpu taking no more than 2 slots, then should be 1 left for you.

      • Looking at the slots, pretty sure it would take up all slots with RTX 3070….unless the graphic card is a Mini ver.

      • I have non wifi version, Gigabyte B550M DS3H. Even with GTX1060 2 fan version, 1x PCIe slot is covered and useless, only other 16x (4x effective) slot is useful, but if you are using mATX case, that slot can't be populated with a dual slot GPU as it is on the edge of the motherboard
They should have kept that 1x slot before the 16x slot, even 16x slot aligns with 2nd slot in my case. Can't complain as I got this for $84 though

Props for adding the 970 EVO PLUS instead of some rando SSD!

  • Any builds with 12th gen Intel processors soon?

    • Currently the 11400/600 are offering exceptional value. Going to 12th gen, particularly ddr5 is currently very expensive.

Not to say it's not worth it, even first wave ddr5 is insanely fast ram. It just feels 11th gen/ddr4 pairs better with a 3070.

      • +1

That is on the paper, the current implementation of DDR5 on motherboard is still flawed

  • +1

    …did he buy it? :p

I guess I have to respect that the case, nvme, ram are not bargain-bin like other pc builders do. But as someone who always built their own pc using the best parts for years, i was forced to go a bargain config to get a 3080 this year. And i was surprised to discover that.. premium parts weren't worth the money. I'm now using standard ram. Stock cooler & basic cpu* My old case and psu (swapped them over). Can't tell the difference in the pc but my wallet is heavier

*I only do 4k gaming, so an underpowered and easier to cool cpu suits me, but may not suit you. Gaming also means cpu cooler noise is irrelevant vs gpu cooler noise

    • +8

I mean usually there's a bare functional minimum such as:

      • Case needs decent airflow
      • SSD needs TLC/DRAM
      • PSU needs to not explode mainly, but silent fan mode, high efficiency and long warranty help to ensure that
      • Ball/hydro bearing fans last a lot longer than sleeve
      • CPU cooler can be important, but likely isn't for GPU-bound gaming
      • GPU must not be a MINI under any circumstances, only the full size models work properly!

Apart from that, most differences are imperceptible. Yeah, they can be measured and misrepresented in benchmarking, but the human eye can't tell them apart.

      • +1

Yeah the mini GPU. They are evil. How dare they!

        • I'm rocking a GTX 1060 6gb mini in a high(ish)-end rig with a 3900x, I got it for $150 and it has worked well enough tbh. I almost jumped on a 3080 for $1500 when my friend did, but figured I couldn't justify the price….definitely can't justify the price now xD.

Since getting into VR I want a high end GPU now so I guess I'll wait for things to settle in a year or two. It's interesting tho, if you lower your standards there's kinda nothing you can't play (I'm on a 1440 ultrawide). Sure there aren't hyper realistic graphics but surprisingly this is probs one of the best $150 I've spent and offers extremely good value.

  • Would you start discounting 5600x +x570 tomahawk

    • -7

Why? Why would you or anyone put a $350 CPU on a $300 motherboard? That's just stupid.

      • +3

There are many reasons overlook might want to do that:

        1. He may need the ports, WiFi, Bluetooth and M.2 drive bays because he doesn't just use the system for gaming.

        2. He might be thinking that in a year or two he'll swap out the 5600x for a 5950x. For example, selling his 5600x for $150 and buying a 5950x for $500 and thereby saving himself $400-500 on current prices in the future.

        3. Because his budget only allows him the 5600x right now despite wanting a more powerful build which he can complete in the future as per point 2.

I think it's fair to say there are a few good reasons that show overlook is smart rather stupid with his thinking.

        • Even a 5950X doesn't warrant a $300 board. The B550 Gaming Edge Wi-Fi does all this this for like $50 cheaper, and the B550 AORUS Elite AX even less.

Hell I bet with a little airflow you could get a B450 Gaming Pro Carbon to do it without frying its VRMs.

          • +3

@Void: My point is that there are many reasons why people might be thinking something may not be apparent to you. I see it made no difference.

If you do a lot of video rendering it cuts work time to have pcie 4.0 nvme drives. B550s don't offer 2 m.2 of that speed. And most have 5gb usbc ports whereas the more expensive x570 offer full speed usbc ports. Anyway I think that's enough debating for a Sunday morning ☺️

            • @[Deactivated]: I don't think rendering even 8K would need PCIe 4.0 SSD speeds. Normally you'd render about 20MB/s, then let's say the 5950X does this at like 8x speed so that's like 160MB/s, then multiply that by your like 8 streams, and that's still sub-3000MB/s.

Unless the 5950X magically gets 2x faster I don't see the use.

Actually, I can't find a single use for PCIe 4.0 outside of stopping the PS5 from throwing a tantrum.

But yeah I could see the point about USB ports.

          • +1

@Void: didnt know it is such a bad idea, was just thinking getting this board and i can just keep upgrading the cpu over next few gen rather than getting a older board and wanting new features down the road

            • @overlook: Everything after the V-Cache refresh is supposed to be on a new socket so there's no point. Even then the VRMs don't matter for future-proofing, if anything they'll matter less as chips get more efficient, so you couldn't even go wrong with a B450 board.

  • I can see that it's visually an evga card, but is that what is sold as part of the package?

What specific brand and model of gfx card and psu?

    • That's just a generic image. The card will probably be the cheapest one they can find, so likely a Gigabyte Eagle or MSI Ventus.

  • Not bad all things considered.

    • Would also like to know this if anyone can comment! I am a bit of PC noob if anyone can help out?

    • This one has a few upgrades. The cheapest one still looks pretty good if you want to save a couple hundred dollarydoos

    • Id say if its pure gaming that you are doing, go for the cheapest one. If you wanted a bit more juice to do things like video editing etc go for the $2499 one.

      • Thanks, i'm thinking of going for the 2499 one - any comments on how worth it is to upgrade RAM and cooler - Main use would be for editing with some occasional gaming in 1440p as well as hopefully some future proofing for a good 5+ years?

        • consensus seems to be 16gb of ram is fine for most applications. even then, ram is the easiest thing to upgrade imo.

  • +1

Any reason to not buy this?

    • If you want to wait for Black Friday sale!

      • thanks. maybe i wait just a little longer (been waiting since march)

        • Same here, lucky my son after updated his APEX to the latest season, laptop seems to run it fine with much less laggy, so I hope the gpu price keeps coming down a bit more, and can have a 3070 build for under $2k instead or $2.5k with 3080 that will be wonderful haha !!

  • Is this worth it v the $1500 one from earlier this week, ie the extra approx $1000?

    • what 1500 one do you have the link?

    • 3060 and 3070 is kind of a big jump

I was buying the 3060ti one for 21xx and a 970EVO, so it is like ~23xx already. Now I cancelled that order and swapped to this one with Ryzen 7 upgrade, basically a free upgrade if you are fine with this Ryzen 5 CPU to 3070 at the cost of an unknown brand 1GB SSD, and saved $50+ on far cry 6

Kudos to the BPC team for their excellent service against a pain in the ass like me!

  • Anyway to customize this slightly e.g adding additional 2TB HDD?

    • The other builds offer customisation. This particular build doesn't. Probably really easy to add a HDD yourself though

  • Good for people who don't want to buy from Techfast or Luke at Techfast.

    • I think I found comparable items. Add on the GPU for $1279 from here.

$2597 for the build if you add on another $50 for the included wifi/bluetooth PCIe adapter (might be this one or a generic equivalent).

      • This board already includes wifi.

        • Right thanks. I'm on the fence with this build. Worried about damage during shipping

          • @belongsinforums: Contact the seller, they might have a solution for you, eg: cpu cooler & gpu install by yourself.

            • @Richardc: Yep waiting for a reply. If i lived in vic id go pickup

              • @belongsinforums: People been shipping PC's around for years. How do you think the pre-made ones are shipped all the way from China :)

  • BPC Technology takes great care with the packaging with all outgoing system builds, using foams and cardboards to protect the systems from rough handling by couriers during transit. Even if the unfortunate happened and the system arrived damaged (which in fact is very rare), it's fully covered by insurance.
