  • For gaming and some light Adobe, is there any benefit to this much RAM?

    • +6

No. For gaming you will be better off with better timing higher frequency rams.

    • +2

There is some significant benefit to certain Adobe applications, such as Photoshop, but not much with others, such as Premiere.

      Also depends on CPU.

      • What ram would you recommend if you're prime focus is premiere?

    • Only game I've seen break the 16GB barrier is Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

    • Yes, create a RAM drive.

    • You could open 5 more tabs in chrome

  • No doubt this would be rev. B to hold this much memory. Does anyone have anything to suggest otherwise?

  • get this or 3600DDR4 ram ?

is this Kit Not low Profile ?

    • It’s 39mm tall. Not Corsair vengeance LPX low profile but it’s not very tall by g skill standards.

    • +1

You could easily overclock this memory to 3600 with tight timings. It should be Micron e revision which is a good overclocker.

      • +3

Doubt this is rev e, those are 8gb per side, so you wouldnt be able to get 32gb on a stick.

        • i have a 9700K and a tachi ultimate 390

          i was considering corsair …….

        • Thanks for the info. I wasn't 100% sure. I've got the 16GB kits and they were rev e but I wasn't sure what the 64GB kits are.

      • i guess Ebay kits like PCmeal Are a Gamble

  • +1

While this is def a good price, please consider your need. Same story with CPU cores.

  • this is what you need for someone who multi tasks; gaming, VMs, rendering.

    • -4

I'm a software developer running multiples VMs at once etc I can run pretty fine in 16G but my main workstation has 32G and I can use 32G.

64G is just too much I would never use - and that applies for most workloads. If you are in doubt if you would use this much, then you won't. Only someone who really understands what they are using it for should get this much. Otherwise it's pointless and wasted, and provides literally zero benefit for the cost. It's like getting a huge salad bowl instead of a normal bowl to eat from - the food you are consuming fits in the normal size bowl, so there's no benefit from a larger bowl ..

95-99% of users would not get any benefit from 64G at this time. Even 32G is questionable, 16G is probably the sweet spot for now.

      • +4

It's pretty easy to use more than 32GB if you run a big project and don't have a habit of closing your Chrome tabs!

        • +1

Yep, with edge consuming 5 gig, the doing a large docker build I've run out before with 32 gig, wsl2 is an absolute hog if you don't restart it periodically.

          • -1

@gunslinger: What the hell are you building in Docker that's taking up so much RAM? Also how are you measuring docker memory usage - assuming via docker stats?

            • +1

@steve-oz: It's only a 2 gig image, problem is Windows not releasing mem for some reason.
Is actually vmmem consuming (just observed via task manager) which is 2 wsl2 environments, ubuntu and docker, docker is the culprit though.
Moral of the story, docker on Windows is a pig.

        • I regularly open 200 tabs on my lightweight notebook with just 8GB .. after about 200 it slows down

      • -1

I completely share your sentiments, and I'm also a software/DevOps guy. What I'm learning though is that OzBargain loooves it some extra RAM, and will swear by it even though in reality there's no way they need that much. Confirmation bias maybe?

  • +2

    +$10 for RGB model too.

Worried with black friday and xmas deals this might get cheaper, but pretty tempting at this price.

    • I've been waiting for a price like this on one of these Crucial kits for a long time now, but not sure whether or not to buy now or hold off and see what comes up for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. I seem to be using up 32GB pretty easily as I usually have a ton of tabs open and other programs at the same time.

      • Then order from Amazon with 30 days return.

        • Is it easy to return stuff to Amazon? I haven't done so before, so not sure how easy it is.

          • @Ice009: It depends.

            • @Richardc: Doesn’t Amazon have extended returns about this time of year? It’s usually until January 30th, since they assume you buy it for Christmas.

    • I see just now that Amazon has as well price matched said RGB model BL2K32G32C16U4BL, which was something like $480 the last few days.

  • +1

Great for using with RAM drives. I'm running 4x16GB, and use 32GB as a RAM drive for video processing, which saves on my SSD's write endurance. I sometimes find a 32GB RAM drive not big enough, so for those who do a lot of video editing, processing, conversion etc, it is a good use for 128GB of RAM.

  • +1

Deal updated - confirmed as Micron 16Gbit B-Die. Based on the Hardware Luxx thread, 3600 looks pretty easy and then 4000+ depending on your CPU, mobo, timings and luck

    • any 32gb ballistix kit is rev b, 16gb is a lottery and 8gb is rev e.

  • COD Warzone, 19 GB RAM

    • and yet people can run it with 16gb fine, truly wonder why… lmao
