Creative Live! Cam Sync 1080p Webcam $39.95 Delivered @ Creative Australia

1290

I've been rocking my cheapo 720p camera with my WFH setup until someone at work commented about how grainy my video looked in the meetings. I looked on OzB to see what webcam deals were currently on and was pleasantly surprised to see this deal still available at a sweeter price than before.

Insanely easy to set up (just plug it into the USB-A port on your computer!) with a mounting clip for any desktop monitors or laptops, this webcam works with all the popular web conference apps like Zoom, Teams, Skype, WebEx, and Messenger, and displays you in full HD. It also allows 360° horizontal rotation and 30° vertical tilt so you can pivot it around at will to find your best angle. Just in case your laptop’s mic is faulty, the webcam also comes with dual built-in mic so you can be heard clearly at all times.

Bought one of these and the quality of it is great for the price.

  • +1

FYI This is the V1 version, if you're looking for reviews make sure they're from before May 2021

Edit: Video comparison to Logitech C615: https://youtu.be/F7S_URC9DRA?t=129

    • Could be wrong but i think the main difference between V1 and V2 is the audio. So if you are concerned with video quality, reviews from both V1 and V2 could be relevant.

      • +1

Interesting. I was under the impression that the v2 had better image quality, but this vid suggests they are pretty much identical (except for sound, v2 much better).

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzwTCXmQkig

Hmmmmm…$40 not bad if you already have your own mic.

  • Can I connect this to my smart TV and using a video calling app?

  • I have a Logitech Pro 9000 and Microsoft Life Cam HD5000, this one should be better right with 1080p.

    • Webcams use the same size tiny sensors and achieve their resolution by oversampling. This creates a high resolution low detail image.

At this price it's probably a good deal.

    • I have a Logitech pro 9000 I still use often.
It's a decade old now and is only 720p.

I wonder if it is still better than OPs deal from today in 2021

      • +1

I also used a Logitech Pro 9000 for a number of years, just recently replaced with the V2 of this Creative webcam, the image quality is much better.

        • just recently replaced with the V2

Is the mic comparable with Logitech?

          • @superforever: V2 with its software noise cancellation does improve the audio department.

        • i see,
you can sell logitech pro 9000 for about 30$ on ebay. maybe i should upgrade.

          • @MagicTsukai: Doubt anyone is silly enough to buy a second-hand Logitech Pro 9000 for $30, when you can get this brand new Creative webcam for not much more and higher 1080p resolution.

          • @MagicTsukai: hey, if you're thinking of an upgrade, you can consider our V2 now at $59.95! https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/662264#

    • +1

      I also still use a pro 9000 - it's about 13 years old!
It's not the quality of my video feed that makes people complain when I turn on my webcam.

      • Not too many make-up deals on OzB unfortunately.

    • The quality of these webcams are pretty much identical imo, what I found is often times the software would adjust the quality by downsampling the video. Ms Teams is notorious for this, the quality is downright awful, lag and blurry, while it's super clear on Zoom under the same network condition.

  • +1

Yeah I have two of these and both version 1 - great picture quality and the sound is also very good. Haven't had any complaints from those on the other end and in fact a few have asked what camera it is because of the picture quality (they probably have standard run of the mill laptop cameras). These are a significant step up from those! $40 delivered makes them an ozbargain!

  • +1

    not AUTOFOCUS ?? A/F

    • +1

Fixed focus is fine for a WFH webcam

      • +1

I would actually say fixed focus is preferable - you never have to worry about A/F glitching and you being blurry halfway through a call

  • Here is a comparison between the V1 and the V2: https://youtu.be/lzwTCXmQkig

The V2 has had $20.00 knocked off it, making it $69.95. it would seem that the V1 is better value for money by far if you do not need to use the camera microphone.

    • -2

if you do not need to use the camera microphone.

In that case v2 is better with $20 more.

  • +1

Can vouch for the V2, amazing, also have had comments about quality have asked what camera I use at times during meetings

  • I have the V2, unfortunately there's no Mac software so you can't make use of the audio features it offers, but the picture quality is excellent

  • +2

Is this good enough quality for Chaturbate?

    • +7

Yep, everybody will be able to see that mole on your joystick.

  • +5

Bought one before, the quality sucks. Its basically the same quality or worse than a laptop webcam. Avoid.

    • worse than a laptop webcam

      Tested with local video capture?

    • Good to know. Reviews too positive for this price point.

      • +1

        Most reviews are ads.

That's why you get this gushing over low quality webcams in reviews.

      • +4

I bought one during the last sale its its perfectly fine for a WFH camera.

Its significantly better than my work mac pro camera.

I think people need to keep things in perspective, its not a high end streamer camera trying to compete with digital SLRs, its to replace shitty laptop webcams. For teams meetings and other boring work shit its more than good enough.

    • Its basically the same quality

      That sounds about right.

    • Agree. Avoid. It simply ain’t work cheaping out on.

    • Sold mine in FB market after weeks of using , luckily someone bought it for the same price of 40aud.
The image quality is grainy (note that I have my own ring light, so the lightning here is not the issue) .

I bought Logitech C922 pro and the quality of Logitech is FAR better than creative.

      • +5

I bought Logitech C922 pro and the quality of Logitech is FAR better than creative.

No doubt that is true, but the C922 Pro is at a completely different price point (three to four times the price) and has a different target market and use case. Creative markets this camera as being for Zoom calls. Logitech markets the C922 Pro as being for "serious streamers".

    • +2

You must have had an exceptional laptop camera - its significantly better than my mac pro and dell latitude cameras.

      • +2

Same, bought v1 at $45 about 4 months back, considerably better than either of my Lenovo laptop webcams.

Comparing it to a Logitech costing 4 times as much… apples and oranges. If you want to spend $160+ on a webcam, go nuts, but at $40, it is great value.

  • +1

I have the V1, which I bought for $45 a few months ago. The quality is impressive. It delivers far better quality than my laptop webcam, and (based on the reviews I've seen) has probably the best video quality you can get for under $100.

  • +2

I have this one and it crashes half the time. The support has been really unsupportive saying that there is no issues and if we send it back the costs are on us! Would not recommend

    • +1

Common issue with USB webcams generally. Try changing USB controller (change ports but some ports are on same controller).

    • +1

if you bought it with Paypal, paypal will reimburse you for the return.

      Refer: https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/returns

  • +19

Hmm according to OZB it is the worst or the best webcam for the price.

    • +16

      Schrodingers webcam

    • +5

I think everyone has different acceptable video quality and what you're replacing/coming from.

If you're thinking of 'upping' your video quality then you must either have a potato for a webcam now or will be disappointed.

If you have no webcam and looking for the cheapest possible option, then yeah this will do.

The webcam has low dynamic range so if you sit next to a window either you're completely blown out or the half of the frame where the window is will be.

The fuzzy grainy camera reminds me of my Nokia 6280 days.

      • +2

If you're thinking of 'upping' your video quality then you must either have a potato for a webcam now or will be disappointed.

Most laptop webcams are grainy potatoes, and that's what most people will be comparing it to. It's certainly far ahead of any in-built camera I've had.

  • If you are using Zoom you can go into the video setting and change it from SD video to HD as well. Even with a 720p camera you will find a noticable difference by doing this.

  • Got V1 from last deal, just got another for when we go back into office. Great value, thanks OP

  • Thanks op, got one. Price seems great.

  • thanks OP, just snagged one. reviews seem conflicted on here but i dont have a webcam for my desktop so thisll be fine. hopefully.

  • +3

Been seeing a lot of webcam deals pop up since WFH so little tip:

You know you can use your phone as a webcam right? Not just 720p, even in 1080p or 4k if your phone is compatible. I just use a phone holder stick that I clip onto and stream. No need to buy cheap unfamiliar brand webcams, let alone expensive ones. Just download a Webcam app. If you have questions, it's a lot to go over, Google's the best answer. I've set the starting point.

    • +10

Too fiddly and phone gets hot (adding extra wear on battery)

      • +6

yeah i did this for a while, battery ended up like a pillow and there was significant lag.

For forty bucks just get a dedicated camera that doesn't need any drivers or mucking about.

        • What were your settings? I used USB and my phone's battery is fine. Apps have the opt to turn screen off.

Since it's working for me I'm still gonna stick with it. Saves a bit of molla.

          • +1

@PeeDee: Might wear down your phone battery in the long run. Better if you use a backup phone for this sort of stuff

            • @miinht: In the long run? If you connect via wifi then perhaps yes.but if over USB connection then no. I've been using it and my phone is fine.

      • +2

also too much of a run around trying to convince my work IT to allow me to install random drivers

      • +2

If you connect via wifi then perhaps yes.but if over USB connection then no. I've been using it and my phone is fine.

        • +1

I used DroidCamX for a while, no issues with lag or overheating. And because it's wired, it was charging the whole time so it didn't drain the battery. Cost like $5 and there's a free trial version to test. Only issue was not being able to mount it above my monitor and, of course, I couldn't use my phone during useless Zoom meetings.

          • +2

@noprobono: I use a phone mount holder that I clamp on my desk and orientate the phone to face above the monitor.

I'm not sure how to fix the second problem haha a lot of mobile apps are available as desktop version, browse the net during your useless meetings

  • +1

Anyone using this for Octoprint/Octolapse/3D Printing footage?

    • +1

I have the same question. Anyone can chime in with their comments?

  • Damn, bought for $69.95 8 months ago

  • +3

Bought at the last deal. Well worth it at $40. For the people complaining about it- can you recommend a better camera at this price point?

  • Thanks OP, needed one as my laptop operates in clamshell mode when docked.

  • +1

Is it worth pointing out that higher resolution cameras use more processing and more bandwidth which could affect video call quality.
Also, the graininess the OP mentions could be down to poor lighting.

  • +1

I literally bought it earlier this morning for $45 lol, insert bad luck brian meme

  • +7

    Lots of mixed reviews here.

I've had this for about 6 months. For the average workplace where most people just use their laptop cameras, this is perfectly adequate.

Obviously this won't cut it if you're a streamer or hotshot corporate lawyer but for $40, it's about as good as you'll get.

    • Yeh this cam is the value for money leader

    • +2

      or hotshot corporate lawyer

What about if I was a hotshot something else? Like a bankerz or doctorz.

  • any good for my OnlyFans page?

    • If you are on OnlyFans you can afford a better camera

      • +3

Get V2, automatically mutes when there is no moaning! 😇

  • Noice. Bought. Tah!

  • -2

I don't care about quality for wfh. (Why would I want everyone to see me so crisply in 4k HDR?)
Are there good alternatives below this price point?

  • Seems like not my kinda deal.
Any recommendations for a good value for money webbcam? budget around $150.

    • +1

    • Seems to be out of stock again…

Hey guys, due to the high demand for V1 it's now officially out of stock. If you're still interested, you may consider the V2 here >> https://au.creative.com/p/webcams/creative-live-cam-sync-108…

        • +2

Got a special OzB deal for those that missed out on the V1?

          • +1

@3atc3: We've shared your request with the team. Keep a look out for offers on the V2 at our 11.11 sale next week ;)

            • @CLPL: Legend!! :D

            • @CLPL: Don't make me regret buying V1! ;)

          • +1

            @3atc3: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/662264 here you go! 11.11 deal for V2 :)

            • @CLPL: Thanks for delivering the goods! :D

              • +1

@3atc3: and thanks for your support! :)

  • I have one, its good

  • I've had one of these for a few months now and its good most of the time but when the auto exposure breaks it really breaks and when that happens the entire image will just be a white washed mess which doesn't really fix itself.
