I bought the 4K Max from JB this morning and I have to say I’m not impressed. The UI is so cluttered and the ads and them constantly recommending prime video stuff is so frustrating. I Don’t get why people wouldn’t just buy Chromecast with Google TV for similar price.

    • I agree with you partially. For me there are some foreign apps that are only available on Firestick and work really well with getflix. So for example Italian and British apps are only available on Firestick. If you are not after those apps chromecast tv is much better .

      • Which Italian apps pls? Tia

          Rai, Mediaset.
Rai works both for live and catch-up. Mediaset only catch up. You do need a smartdns

          • @fozzie: Could you not just side load them onto the Fire Stick? That's what I did with mine was quick and easy. Just toggle on developer mode

            • @Lucille Bluth: I downloaded the Firestick apps (just changed temporarily to Italian address).

@JAF I hear ya wrt the cluttered interface of the spammy launcher.
I was so incensed by it, i was online 5 minutes after first using it looking for a way to get rid of the clutter and ads.
A few apps sideloaded fixed that up and now its way better.
Get downloader from the app store then using that, go to techdoctoruk.com and get launcher manager and wolf loader.
Install them and get rid of the amazon spam.
There are some other apps ive sideloaded too like fire tv debloater and blokada and it is a totally different beast now.

    • constantly recommending prime video stuff

its primary reason for existence. Side-loading and other streaming services is a perk.

For those wondering (it gets asked every time): the 4K Max brings more performance, Wifi 6 support, but most importantly AV1 support.

AV1 codec is the future of video, and will make a substantial difference not just for 4K60 video, but multistream presentations on a device like this one.

Personally I would be looking for an AV1-supporting device that offers 4K120 and maybe 8K120 output, but that's just me.

    • Good to know that the 4K Max has native AV1 support which is something that Google doesn't have on their Chromecast with Google TV
I have both the Google Chromecast with Google TV and the original Firestick 4K and like them both. I believe that the Firestick 4K Max with 2GB Ram (the original had 1.5GB) and a performance boost in the CPU coupled with WiFi 6 should give it the edge.
The Firestick does not support Google Chromecast though, so if you rely on this instead of built in Firestick/Android TV apps this is something to be aware of.

      • The Firestick does not support Google Chromecast though

I found out the hard way that it doesn't have "proper Chromecast". Made me revert back to my Vodafone TV. It was also laggier than my VTV from the few days I was using it.

Casting Cinema HD etc from my phone was a frustrating experience, especially for large video files.

        • Chromecast can be handy now and again. I used it recently to cast an SBS TV series from my PC with Adguard installed to The Google Chromecast, which skipped the annoying Ads.

          • @Snoots: I had to allow “*.pubads.g.doubleclick.net” on NextDNS for SBS on Demand. Any way to avoid?

      Not Max, FYI

      • Yep. It's just the 4k one my bad.

    • Great deal. No pick up and no delivery

  • Seems everyone is clearing these out I got the same 4k version from TGG today $49 .

    • The 4K is the model before max and yes those have been cleared out (I bought 3 of them with Amazon and jb hifi discount codes)

  • Waiting for new Kindle deals. Hopefully during black Friday

  • Who wants to split a 4k max?
    I nobly need 1.
I'm located in Melbourne cbd. Pm me if you want to go halves. I can order/pay first.

  • can you get the nba app on this?

  • if I return one of the 2 that I bought, how much would I get refunded? $69.3 or $39.60?

    • it's $69.30

    • From T&C

If you cancel or return any items purchased pursuant to the Offer, you will only be refunded the price paid for those items.

      • yeah, I'm not used to these kinds of offers but I've found my answer thank you

        • Yeah I'm planning to do the same thing. Just want to know do you need to pay for shipping when returning?

          • @Yo1111: yes, if you select the option where there's nothing wrong with the product. $7.
