Does the sound leak with a boner? Asking for a friend! 😇

Not the dumbest comment I’ve read , but it’s up there.

      • +6

        Tell us the dumbest

    • Does the sound leak with a boner?

It's normally something else that leaks out with that.

  • +1

Anyone tried these? Anything compared to aftershocks

    • +4

At 1/10th the cost of AfterShockz it’s worth trying!

Ok after doing some super quick research. They're better value for money, as you'd expect, but they're quieter, so less suitable for say riding along a noisy street, and better for working in an office. They do seem to have more sound leakage, so maybe not ideal for a super quiet office either.

        • Thanks for doing the research, maybe worthwhile waiting for the next aftershocks deal

        • Any bone conducting headphones will not be good in a noisy location. You'll still be "hearing" with your ears, and any noise will interfere with it.

  • +6

Damage to your eardrum is irrelevant. If you’re going to give yourself noise induced hearing damaged, it is to your cochlea. Excessive volumes / sound pressure via bone conduction is equally as harmful (but still perfectly fine at safe listening volumes).

I think their claim of not damaging eardrums is accurate - only because it can't generate enough energy to cause damage. ;)

    • Link to a journal publication in case anyone's wants to read more about the damage that can be caused by bone conduction earphones:

      https://journals.lww.com/thehearingjournal/fulltext/2012/060…

      • +5

That's not a journal publication, it's a letter written to the editor by a reader.

No data is presented. The only statement given is that bone conduction headphones still vibrate the eardums so they could damage hearing the same way as earphones which is absolutely true.

The thing is, these cheap bone conduction headphones simply don't produce enough power to reach the loudness of regular earphones placed directly in the ears.

The more expensive Aftershokz ones do have a higher output, but they're still not as loud as earphones.

So person sit next to me cant hear a thing?
(Because it touches my bone only)
    Is the logic correct?

    • +2

According to this video they will hear it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbfGcaiMTAk

Then its just small speaker dangling on your ear.
        Fail product

        • +4

Genuine bone conduction headphones can be heard when you're next to it.

Sound is just vibrations going through air. Bone conduction headphones work by placing a vibrating transducer against your head which is meant to vibrate your eardrums directly.

But when the transducer vibrates, the body of the transducer vibrates too, and that goes through the air to the person next to you. It will be much softer than an earphone speaker though, since speakers are designed to transmit everything through air.

@eug: And your head too, to an extent.

Tons of people can 'knock' their skull and change the sound with their mouth.

How come this product is not available directly from Lenovo?

    • Saw some comments on previous models saying they are capitalising on unlicensed use of Lenovo name

  • +1

Not sure about this guys review but found his video

    • This review is for the Lenovo X3

  • I have Lenovo x5, awful quality

    • Compared to what?

Are sound holes anything like speed holes?
