the ladyboys will be so happy!

    • +5

      You seem so happy!

      • im in W.A. no go for me

    • -1

Why would the lady boys in Australia be happy? The lady boys in Thailand will probably prefer the farangs that go to Thailand for them. The lady boys in Australia will not go to see the Thai lady boys.

      • -1

        Lmao completely missed the point.

If u ever been to Thailand u will see ladyboy joints flocked with white farangs or Indians.

Obviously it's referring to the lady boys being happy their customers coming back.

Probably worth mentioning this is via Singapore and trip times range from 17hrs to over 28hrs.

    (Nonstop 9.5hrs)

    • +3

      Alternatively, free Singapore stopover!

      • I've always envied the optimist 😊

      • +3

Singapore stopover is great however the moment you leave the airport you will need at least one PCR test and then go and stay at a hotel until that test result comes back.

So 1 PCR test leaving Aus = $150
        1 PCR entering Singapore = $150
1 PCR on arrival in Thailand = $150
1 PCR coming back to Australia = $150
1 PCR on arrival in Aus = $0 (can use community test for this)

        It adds up!

        • There used to be that Singapore bus tour that you didn't technically 'leave' the airport to go in - you handed in your passport. I wonder if that still exists and if you can do it without a PCR test.

          • @beatthatflight: Looks like you have to stay in airport.
And worse if you arrive from cat 3 or 4 country you'll have to stay in a designated transit area with limited food options (vending machine?).
Only people coming from cat 1-2 countries will be able to used airports shops etc.
            Thailand isn't on cat 1 or 2

            https://www.changiairport.com/en/airport-guide/Covid-19/tran…

            • @Hellochris: Vending machine + there are now food counters to take your order. They bring it on take-away containers after a few minutes…

              .

        • NT is asking for 6 tests next month for home quarantine. I always wonder who pays for that.

        • +1

You missed the $200 covid insurance ;) ….. I booked for March with Jetstar and am still trying to work out the exact requirements currently needed - hopefully less by the time I travel…

          • @evanssm2jp: Which travel insurance company are you using?

            • @barblade: Sorry - just saw your comment - I haven't bought any yet - 5 months away so gives me a bit of time to think about things over the xmas break.. AXA Thailand was the cheapest so far but didn't search too much - I'll be there 6 weeks so my rough calculations for the minimal additional costs at the moment are:

Thai Visa - $60 (needed for more than 30 days)
              Insurance - $180 (for 6 weeks)
PCR Test / Hotel on arrival - $200+ ($140 for test / guessing $60+ for room?)
Possibly another PCR test after 7 days (not confirmed but was mentioned on a Thai youtube news channel) - $140?
PCR Test before leaving Thailand - $140
SIM card (for app) - $50+
              Total $630-770

It's a bit more than I was originally thinking… Obviously any positive covid test would blow out those costs somewhat.

Things could well change (good or bad), but it is hard to judge until more travel starts into Jan/Feb…

              • @evanssm2jp: Hi mate. Thanks heaps for the detailed response. Hopefully prices don't spike too much and people can spend more money with the people who need it. Just make sure you get there for Songkrahn. It's amazing.

                • @barblade: No worries… I just realised that maybe I need to pay for a PCR test within 3 days of travel at another $100 or so for the sake of getting a medical certificate…. Yeah I love songkran, often heading into Isaan to enjoy with locals then to the Wan Lai festival in Pattaya a week or so later (20th Apr or so) for the beach road entertainment.. Still too early to know if it will be restricted or no though…

                  • @evanssm2jp: Nice work. I had 3 years in Chiang Mai 4 days of fun and the year before last in Ayutthata. Little more relaxed. Think it will be a double celebration this coming one. :)

        • Yep better to go with a direct flight more will open up

    • Thanks I was wondering about that. Makes a big difference

    anything coming up for japan?

  • I think travel health insurance is mandatory for visiting Thailand. I heard it should be minimum US$ 40000 per person.

    • +1

That’s correct however there are some pretty cheap options available with varying degrees of coverage. Costs around $80-90 for a 2 weeek trip. Even with covermore it’s about $120 for coverage that is pretty comprehensive.

      • Do these cover covid related expenses?
We enquired with Qantas travel insurance and yes we can get a travel insurance but they don't cover covid cancellations hospital etc

        • +2

How bloody scummy. A major airline selling travel insurance and an airline that insists on passengers being fully vaccinated well before the official travel regulations, that doesn’t cover covid. It’s actually bloody disgusting.

      • Cheapest I found so far was AXA and $180… $50000US minimum covid coverage is needed. Not done enough searching as things may well change by the time I travel at the end of March. Just confirmed the basic cover with Covermore is $350 - I think I did check this before!

        • I got $89 for 2 weeks with AXA’s Thailand specific insurance and covers covid hospitalisation and related medical expenses. Would need to check re cancellation but many (probably not scoot) airlines have flexible booking policies when it comes to covid

          https://www.axa.co.th/axa-sawasdee-thailand-travel-insurance

          • @soupfluencer: That sounds about right - I have 6 weeks or so booked hence $180. I saw a clip from the Thaiger youtube channel mentioning many of the requirements just yesterday but there is a new Thailand Pass website which is due to be launched in the next few days - Certificate of Entry is now gone..

Found the link - might be useful for anyone travelling - https://youtu.be/7Wp1t43uSxA?t=618

  • I think scoot offers 10kg carry on, not 7kg last time I flew with them. Unless they've lowered it after covid

  • Whats happened to direct flights from Melbourne, seems all airlines are via sydney?

    • +1

I presume they're opening up in stages.

  • +2

Man I missed seeing these type of deals.

  • I recommend their quiet section if they still have it

  • Don't forget $300 PP for PCR testing.

    • You mean 1 for leaving aus $150 and then when arriving? because its usually around $150 for 1 test. I found one here for $145 https://www.dhm.com.au/covid-19/testing-for-travel/

    • +1

      Is it for 4 tests?
      1. Before leaving Australia ($150)
      2. After arriving in Thailand (2500+ baht = $100+)
      3. Before leaving Thailand (2500+ baht = $100+)
      4. After returning to Australia. ($150? Not sure if you can get this one for free)

PCR tests in Thailand can easily be 4000+. Plus you'd need to factor in the time and costs required to actually go to get test #3, collect or wait for delivery of results, etc.

      • What testing method is the free one that you can get in Australia? I assume it's not the PCR

        • I think almost all testing in Australia is PCR. It's usually free (ie. paid by medicare), but when the purpose is for travel you're normally expected to pay for it yourself privately @ ~$150.

I'm not sure if you can "get away" with getting a free test for the final test after you return to Australia, or whether you'll be expected to pay for that one too.

(Thanks toad for finding the $100 test from histopath in Sydney. Hopefully the testing will become cheaper and more competitive in the next few months)

  • 20 Hour trip. Pass.

  • This PCR testing better get reduced or even better be removed in a few months. This cost for a medium-large family will be quite substantial.
