  • Out of curiosity, what's the benefit of this over Chromecast with Google TV ?

    • +2

Benefits: Live TV from antenna with nice interface, can subsribe to streaming channels (paid), and can link to a Fetch TV Mighty and watch your recorded shows
Disadvantages: No casting, very limited apps (e.g. no Disney Plus)

Overall better to get a Chromecast with Google TV, unless you really need those benefits.

      • I've currently got a HD Homerun which has two tuners in it (but can't record).

Do you know how many tuners this has, and how much storage (or how many hours of TV it can record)?

I'm presuming you can set it up with a program guide and view it all through a web interface.

You can't record to this Mini as it doesn't have a hard drive, you need the larger Mighty box.
You can use the Mini to watch what the Mighty has recorded though (I think).

    • You can subscribe to Fetch packages.

    • I would say an advantage is you can set Series recording, like the old Tivo used to do.
Whenever your show is on it will record - almost set and forget.

    • Running some version of Android - can one install other apps on this?

    • I heard that OptusSports is 1080p for Fetch Boxes - not sure how that works if it's not on Optus subscription, but that's what I'd read on Whirlpool.net.au

Looks like Plex will (finally) be making it's way to Fetch:

When did the Fetch Mini become able to play 4K? Thought only the Fetch Mighty was capable of 4K unless there is an upgrade for the Mini?

Edit: Ok new model mini 4K model H671T (1080p model version is: H626T)
    https://www.fetchtv.com.au/specs

And note one can't record on the Mini versions as there is no built-in in harddrive in a Mini unless there's a way through a USB stick I doubt? Yes you can control ones Mighty through one's Mini including recording, playback etc

    • Time for an upgrade.

      • Would've been great to add these to the Mini to qualify for the $150 spend- iFetch

  • Will this device allow me to stream Optus Sports EPL in 4k?

  • I've had FetchTV for years. I love it! It's so great how the channel packs are only $6 each or $20 for all of them. Better to have an account direct through Fetch by buying the box outright. Fetch sell refurbished ones on eBay and do cheap deals around Christmas time. Last month they gave the Vibe pack for free- ESPN & MTv included. They do more regular updates than when I was connected through my internet provider. Plus you get the updates first being a direct customer.

  • I already have a fetchtv through my ISP, if i buy this will i be able to use it with my existing account?

edit : looks like I can't; only way to add a second box to an ISP fetch account is through the ISP and it costs an additional subscription.
